Well from the title you can assume this. I am really bored. I've had nothing to do all day and for some reason this popped into my head.
What is my favorite anime.
Now I don't watch all anime and I usually only hear about the type that is incredibly over used. So the second I thought of this, I immediately thought of Full Metal Alchemist. It's a great show with some pretty cool themes. It's use of some basic scientific theories to make something used in mythology for a plot is great. However, I also like Cowboy Bebeop for reason that it seems to be like a futuristic wild west. Same reason I like Trigun as well, aside from the comedy. Out of those three, however, I can't yet pick a favorite. So I'll ask all you you.
Do you watch anime? And, if so, which is your favorite series?

Well, I read Manga, which is more or less the same thing as Anime. I'm reading Air Gear and DN-Angel right now, but my all time favorite is Initial D Stage 4(anime).

I read much more than watch nowadays, but for me, my favorites are Fruits Basket, Spirited Away, and The Cat Returns. I can rewatch them no problem. Others that're good but don't have as much re-watch-ability are Princess Mononoke, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Peacemaker (Kurogane).
I'm currently watching GetBackers and plan to watch Tenjho Tenge after that. I'm pretty sad that Geneon went down before Black Lagoon was finished though. I'm going to try Fate/Stay Night and that Haruhi-thingy sometime. I look forward to that Host Club anime.
While subs keep the "integrity" of the creators' works, I tend to watch dubs for all sorts of reasons... One of which is that I'll be more affected by hearing/seeing someone gasping their final words instead of reading a couple directly-translated lines and listening to a performance won't impress me as much because it has to go through a mental "filter".
The manga I'll never tire of rereading are xxxHolic, Eyeshield 21, and Pokemon Special. DramaCon is also pretty cool. If Pilgrim Jager continued, I would've put it on my list too. Shutterbox needs to release more often as well.

Personally I love Gantz manga. The anime is too short so I went onto the manga. Gantz is defintley a manga everyone needs to check out. I'm pretty sure though it's for older readers. (Sex, Violence, Ect.) Another Anime I thought was cute was Eureka 7. It has one of the sweetest last episodes I've seen. But..out of FUll Metal Alchemist, Cow Boy Bebop, and Trigun...FMA is my favorite.

I have quite a list actually. Black Cat, Outlaw Star, Trinity Blood and Gundam Wing(even though three of the four have been completely televised from start to finish). But I do like Vampire Hunter D, Blood: The Last Vampire, and Akira.
Ive also kind of fallen in love with Noein, but I cant seem to find it anywhere near me, so I'm lost and hopelessly confused with the few episodes I have seen(Thank god for the Sci Fi channel).
Hmm, this thread has sparked my interest in wanting to watch Black Cat again.

Escaflowne. If you don't know what that is, I don't know what to tell you.
Other Anime I have enjoyed would be:
Rozen Maiden Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Eureka 7 Full metal Alchemist Black Lagoon Ergo Proxy Ouran Highschool Host Club Gundam Wing/Seed/Seed Destiny Cowboy Bebop Samurai Champloo
Those seem to be my top ones, that I can't decide between. Escaflowne just happens to be better than all of them.

Escaflowne is good alright. I personally prefer the sub over the dub for this one, particularly because of how irksome some of the voices were. Dilandau sounded much more psychotic in Japanese. The movie is alright, but it doesn't measure up to the series itself. I heard that the manga is an embarrassment.

I grew up on the dub so i am accustomed to it. The movie definitely wasn't up to par and the manga had so many differances that you can't really compare.
Also, I forgot to add:
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann The Melencholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Lucky Star
If you haven't watched Tengen Toppa, you have a sufficient lack of Yoko.

Others that're good but don't have as much re-watch-ability are Princess Mononoke, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Peacemaker (Kurogane). The new Neon Genesis Evangelion manga has been kickass so far, even moreso than the original in my opinion. As for Anime's, I like the Hellsing OVA's, Dragon Ball Z (grew up with it), Tenjho Tenge, Black Lagoon, and Bleach. Those are the ones that pop into my mind the most, though there's others I like to watch/read, as well. I do have to admit, though, I like the subbed ones better than the dubs, since it seems North America has more strict censorship laws than Japan.

GunGrave.
Nothing is greater in terms of backstory and character development than GunGrave.
Also, GunGrave in space: Cowboy Bebop.
I only really pay attention to serious anime's, and anything mainstream on Television is generally garbage. Such as naruto, (A bit of) Bleach, etc etc..
Huge fan of the original One Piece concept though... Just... Too out there for me.

Damn, I haven't watched Anime in a while. But, that's because the shows to far behind in plot, and boy do I like the plots:
Manga's currently reading:
Bleach Naruto Hajime No Ippo Kekkashi 666 Satan - finished, it's awesome. Shaman King Gintama - though I've stopped for the moment Power Hunter X Hunter
And I think that's it.

The new Neon Genesis Evangelion manga has been kickass so far, even moreso than the original in my opinion. I'll be sure to read it then. I heard really good things about it and I may be able to take to it better. What got me while I was having my EVA-thon was that the series is too interesting to stop watching, but I can only take measured doses of it at a time. This may be embarrassing to admit, but the show gave me a headache because I had to think too much. Dubbed anime do face a lot more restrictions than subs do ('cause you only see subs on anime channels) whenever they're aired on TV. Not only do they face censorship, but the channel that airs the show may target the anime towards a particular audience... In which the anime may need to be altered to heck to accomplish, since not every dub caters to the "purist" fans. Believe me when I say this, the people behind the anime post-production-side hate hacking the shows to pieces ('cause they watched the original and they know that purists will try to brick their studios), but if it can be aired, think of it as an introduction for potential fans... And if there're potential fans, they might make a beeline for the originals on DVD where censorship can't touch the shows. I'm against illegal downloading if the anime is already licensed. The industry is currently suffering and if the more skilled companies don't get the cash, we'll be stuck with bad dubs [4Kids] and direct translations if they go under like Geneon, the folks behind Black Lagoon and the Hellsing OVA. ::stops ranting for the time being::

Am I the only one who doesn't understand Trigun? Sure, the action is awesome and all, but wtf is with the story?

Well my favorite Anime/Manga is probably FLCL. Not only is it hilarious, but has a much deeper storyline and all the coming-of-age symbols that you can shake a stick at.
My other favorite anime:
Cromartie High - The most hilarious show ever Full Metal Alchemist - 'nuff said Neon Genesis Evangelion - It's like a longer version of FLCL. Good job, Gainax.

Manga: Tetragrammaton Labyrinth
My friends all say I have a girls with guns/gothic lolita fetish. Whatever. Good story, good characters and good humor.
Anime: I've got a lot but favorites would be Black Lagoon and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
I have no problems with english dubs. I DO have problems when either the actors aren't willing to put enough effort to make it sound good or the director has poor judgment and doesn't understand what fitting a voice to a character means, or when a licensing team decides to take some measures to change the intended audience and end up making a poor product, with sound glitches, and even larger plot holes and an ultimate cancellation from lack of ratings... No, it wasn't taking a stab at 4kids or Funimation in terms of Naruto and Bleach, they can do whatever they want.

Saw Dante's Picks and just had to reply. Mostly because I agree with them.
FLCL - Short but amazing. Makes bass guitarists actually feel cool. *sniff* Cromartie High School - So freaking hilarious. Reminds me of Martin, except more comically intelligent. See Freddy Mercury. Dragon Ball Z - I grew up with it. Leave me alone. Naruto - Sweet. Shut yo mouth! What? I was only talkin' 'bout ninjas. We can dig it. Gundam Series - What do you mean you don't love giant robots? Outlaw Star - So what if there are gay undertones between Jim and Gene? That's the risk you take when you make an anime.
So yeah. That's my list. Discuss.
