"...So I've managed to get a hold of a bunch of guys who see me as something of a leader figure...they're not really all that bright but they have spirit...I'm just not sure how an outfit like that is gonna be of any use, y'know?"
Steve Barzahd speaks softly as he gives a slight nudge to a small plastic-casted black piece, advancing it forward a square. He sits among a small group, as he himself is hunched over a chess board. It's been about 40 minutes since school let out, so the extracurriculars for the day were in full swing. Some of the smartest brains in the school are assembled here as various members of the chess club watch the pawn advance to counteract an enemy bishop.
"Every piece has it's strengths, however. Think about Naruto episode 141..."
"Never seen it."
"So uncultured. Fine, we'll put it in terms of chess then. How easy do you think the game would be without any pawns?" the boy across from Alkaiser inquires as he himself takes the aforementioned pawn with a white knight.
"Easy. That means there's no line for me to break through before I start checking you mercilessly."
Alkaiser moves forward his rook, taking the bishop.
"That's just like you. Always looking past the value of the separate pieces in exchange for a quick strategy. Your strategies don't always work though." Steve raises an eyebrow at this last remark as the boy across from him advances his knight forward more, checking the black king. "Your pawns are what keep you alive. Where they lack power, they return possibility. Not everyone can be a queen."
"C'mon man..."
"You know what I mean."
"I guess...power is nice too though." Steve casually slides his queen to assume the place of the white knight. "...And my strategies aren't all that bad. Check."
"With the combination of that pawn there and your rook, that's checkmate."
"Oh? So it is. That's about all for today then. Thanks for the lesson Sven."
"My name is Kenny." Steve begins to walk away from the table, already scheming as to how his newly acquired followers and the recent events can play into his bidding for more power in the struggles of Hircine High.
"Yea... I knew that...

"So it is true then."
The sound of Kyukaku's voice would speak softly, though noticeably directed towards the figure of Steve Barzahd.
"The false ex-Freshman Captain has gained himself a bit of a following has he?" Kyukaku would push himself off from the wall he had been leaning against, taking a few steps in the direction of Alkaiser.
"Oh, I'm Kyukaku." He would add with an extension of his right hand for a handshake. "I know who you are, based on rumors and the like. Sounds like I picked a hell of a day to be sick..." He trailed off, still kicking himself for the fact he wasn't able to protect his friends, most notably Leon Loire who had been under assault by the vicious pillar Tiao Lei Shen.
"So what are you going to do, wage a war?" Kyukaku's voice carried a tone that suggested he was joking, but quite to the contrary it was a legitimate question.
(OOC: Sorry, its short. Next one should be longer.)

(OOC: Hey, a reply is a reply...and people haven't been playing with me much lately ) "The false ex-Freshman Captain has gained himself a bit of a following has he?" Steve grins at this question. He thinks to himself that the wise ones are the Varronites, for they are the ones that know the lie from the truth. The boy that approaches is one from the old school. "Oh, I'm Kyukaku." The boy extends his hand and Barzahd instantly matches it with his own. "Pleasure. I'm Steve...but it sounds like you already knew that." Kyukaku confirms this casually with a short explanation. He mentions a recent sick day, which Steve takes to mean the day of the small riot just down the hall. "So what are you going to do, wage a war?" "A war?" Steve chuckles back. "To be honest I wasn't exactly sure what my next move was. It's no secret, I'm a tad power-hungry...I didn't even ask for these men to follow me, though." Barzahd recalls the other day, when the men shadowed him as he left the field, disappointed. "Still, showing a bit of muscle helps you get things done. What would you do if you were in my shoes?" Alkaiser looks at Kyukaku, attempting to figure out what this man's intentions were, and possibly why he would seek out Barzahd. There's always the possibility that the war has already started, and Steve needs to pick a side soon. He thinks to himself that his small group wont last very long when compared to the power of the full Varron rebel force, or the might that the Hircine pillars have at their disposal. He stands eagerly, waiting to see what this new face has to offer.

(OOC: I'd love to play with you Alkaiser.....perhaps I should rephrase that.)
Kyukaku waited for Alkaiser to reply to his question, the varronite junior taking this time to look around the room. There were...chess games everywhere.
He was asking chess club members for strategy...? Well he certainly gets originality points.
Kyu joked to himself, a small smirk surfacing on his face. He didn't look down upon nerds, not in the slightest. He was expelled from his original high school for protecting a member from such a clique. Kyukaku shared many qualities with nerds, mainly a love for super heroes and comic books. It was the very thing that sparked his first conversation with Audrey, and that worked out quite nicely.
The reply of Alkaiser snapped Kyu out of his irrelavent thoughts, bringing him back to his initial point. "People never follow someone for no reason. That's why I'm here." Kyukaku nodded, his face becomming solemn before lighting back up for his next statement.
"Well last time I had someone follow me, they ditched me for the Hand and tried to stab me. Ended up not working out too well for either of us." Kyukaku grinned, burying his deepening sadness for what he believed to be the death of Drake Moldune back at the firebombing of the Edge months ago.
"I heard you're training them, that's good. Well, assuming you've got any skill. From what I've heard from Dain about a tournament battle not too long back though, you're up to date on that so don't worry about this being some sort of 'test' where we battle half to death."
Kyukaku took a deep breath, readjusting his stance for comfort as he continued.
"But you said it yourself, muscle gets things done. I'm no fool to the fact that as Varronites we get stomped on from time to time. As a majority, the Varron population are much stronger of fighters than the Hircinians. We lost the last fight because we couldn't get organized over the chaos. I want to make sure that doesn't happen again. Leon is working for the good of not just us, but of Hircinians as well. Just this time on equal footing. I back him all the way, and this is why I'm here." Kyu paused again, giving Alkaiser some time to absorb information.
"We need to organize the strong of body and spirit. We need to know we can stand together and hold tight, rather than getting knocked down one by one. From what I hear, you're a good place to start that, and this muscle you've been building up is only a plus. So Steve, my proposition is a simple one. If you've got our back, we'll have yours. That way we aren't as blind in the chaos if we have sets of eyes to connect to. What do you say?"

In that room, also lurked another Varronite, one by the name of Jahova Kruschev. He was new here to Hircine, but didn't come as a transfer... he had left Varron for his own reasons and ended up wandering here, back into chaos it seems. Perhaps he had a purpose here, perhaps not. It would be a comforting thought though wouldn't it?
His reason for being here? He had always been a big fan of the game of chess... but didn't really have the desire to join the club, not a person to go with such a thing. Not because he hated the "nerds" who normally do this kind of thing... but because the extracurricular time would take time away from his pondering and music. So, back to the point of him being here, he was merely watching. But then, something caught his attention. Students speaking of "muscle", "organization", "war", and "leadership". Perhaps this would be a good time to bring another perspective into this dilemma.
Jahova stood up and shifted the guitar on his back some and walked over, saying, "Excuse me gentlemen... I couldn't help but overhear your conversation... forgive me... but I thought, perhaps another perspective would be useful? My name is Jahova, Jahova Kruschev... but you can call me Bard. In my travels all around these United States, I've seen many things and have grown wiser. Something that I've come to realize during my stay at Varron is that muscle is practically useless. When it comes to permanent solution, your heart is what truly matters. You may pulverize someone, but that just starts a never-ending chain of hatred. When it comes to hatred, I know all there is to know." He was obviously talking about the torment that constantly befell him due to his abhorrent face.
He pushed up his glasses and looked to Kyukaku, "I am sorry that you were betrayed, it is truly a tragedy." He continued to address them both, "There is a time for war I understand. It may seem that coming to blows is the only solution to such chaos, but in the end, it leaves nothing but more chaos. So, in order to solve the dilemma, remove the claws from both parties..."
He gave them both a bow, "Again, pardon my intrusion... but I simply could not sit idly by..." God had compensated him for his ugliness with a magnificent voice and high charisma. But, how many people bothered to listen to Frankenstein?

Steve listens to Kyukaku's entire monologue, appreciating some of his finer arguments as they were quite relevant and compelling. He thinks to himself of the proper answer, how to word it and how to deliver it. He noticeably pauses for a moment just to achieve this task, sighing gently. Such preparation may have been unnerving to Kyukaku, who was simply waiting for an answer. Alkaiser finds his answer, looks up to his new friend, opens his mouth to speak, and...
"Excuse me gentlemen... I couldn't help but overhear your conversation..."
Barzahd practically falls on his face at the sudden interjection. He recomposes himself and looks to the person who has just shown himself, surveying this new addition and wondering if he would be a threat. "That face..." he thinks to himself, "...wait, what was I going to say? Dammit!" A 'Tom and Jerry' like sequence commences in his mind as he tries to track down that last thought. He goes back into his own mind, momentarily shutting out the world once again. For the life of him he cannot remember his reply. He comes back to reality without it.
"Again, pardon my intrusion... but I simply could not sit idly by..."
"Of course. No worries at all. Thanks for playing." Steve replies as the man bows and seemingly leaves. He waves slightly with a smile on his face. He then comes back to Kyu, still not remembering what to say. He opts to forget eloquence for the moment.
"Ah...what the hell. You've got nothing to worry about. I've got you covered. Steve gives a classic thumbs up with a smile, offering ease to his new found ally.

Kyukaku might not of been the most patient person in the world, but when it came to important decisions he had no problem with waiting for an answer. As long as he didn't have to wait too long. After reflecting on it, Alkaiser looked as if he was going to give an answer but not before another student made his presence known.
"A different perspective is always one I'm open to look through." Kyukaku started in reply, giving Jahova a friendly smile to show he wasn't upset with what the bard thought of as an intrusion.
"I don't disagree with you, Bard. Although, the heart is a muscle in itself, and without the strength it requires it would fail in its delivery would it not? But let me clear something up, to both of you." Kyu said, looking back to Alkaiser before turning his gaze back to Jahova. "I'm not looking to start a war."
At least not right now.
"This is for our own protection for the most part. We may be the stronger, but were definately out numbered on days it comes to blows. Llike that riot. It's really little more than a safety precaution." Yeah, but how long will that last? When are we going to be forced into a position of leading our own assault?
Kyu looked to Alkaiser as he explained his allegiance simply, giving him something very similiar to his own trademarked thumbs up. Kyukaku smiled, giving Alkaiser a nod. "Good to hear it. Welcome aboard."
Is that what I look like when giving the thumbs up? No wonder people call me a dork.

(ooc: sorry about the shortness, I'm distracted by a paper I gotta write for my Anatomy and Physiology class.)
Jahova, apparently, was ignored by Alkaiser. He sighed a bit, he almost knew it inevitably. He then looked back to Kyukaku, "A war is what I'M trying to avoid... but during my stay I've seen nothing but hatred from the original Hircine students... so there will have to be a response to their hatred and violence. Pacifism is the answer, don't believe me, then look at Gandhi. He won India's freedom without firing a single bullet right? Thats a huge task... and surely this little squabble can be resolved without mindless bloodshed."
He crossed his arms, "Yes, its true that the LITERAL heart is a muscle, but not the metaphorical heart in which I speak of. The one I speak of comes from here..." He pointed to his head, "It requires no muscle to run... only the will to do so."
