Huh... would ya look at that...
Dain's eyes, previous to him finding himself in the ring one more time, swept across the remaining competition. Two men, both of whom he was fairly familiar with, and one woman, of which he'd never met nor seen before the tournament. She apparently held some merit, however, as getting to where she was, in the face of the competition Dain had seen flying about this place, was no easy feat.
Between rounds, Dain had mostly found himself resting. His endeavor against Shamino had wore him out, and the sore mark on his chin was a constant reminder that he wasn't in as good a shape going into this match as he had been the previous one. As such, he kept himself away from the other competitors as he retaped up his wrists and forearms, and finally, after everyone else had left, made his way out to the ring as well.
Dain saw Aryn and Tyler squaring off to begin their match as he went to the ring, and then, by process of elimination, knew who he'd be fighting. A wide grin crossed his face, partly at the thought of being up against Pain Killer after all this time, and partly the high of winning the previous battle.
I beat Shamino.
The grin persisted, and Dain, still warmed up and ready from his last match, pressed his palm to his bruised chin, causing it to radiate pain. He winced a little as he pressed harder, attempting to familiarize himself with the pain, in case the self-proclaimed Pain Killer would try using that against him.
With that out of the way, Dain did his usual pre-fight routine when in a squared circle, rolling his shoulders and windmilling his arms to keep them loose, and bouncing off the ropes at each side to test their tautness. It would be done in a slow, casual manner, though. Dain was taking his time preparing as he awaited Pain Killer to make his entrance.

Two more. Just two more competitors lay between Adam Rydell and a second tournament victory, one more step in cementing his legacy. He hadn't checked to see who else had been victorious in their matches, though at this point, it didn't much matter. Unless there had been a massive fluke, all the weaker fighters had been weeded out, leaving only the strongest and most skilled. The next match would be a challenge, guaranteed, and the thought made Pain Killer smile in anticipation.
Dain, Kyu, or the girl. All of 'em quick, and I can only assume she's as good as the other two, if she's made it this far. This should be fun.
His last match was a perfect round, Victor never managing to score a hit on him, which made up for the first round difficulties he'd had against Jellar. While certainly not enough time to heal completely, the time Adam had since his first match had helped considerably. While the aches were still there, he wouldn't let such a small thing stop him from fighting at his best, after all, he wasn't called Pain Killer for nothing. During the few minutes between rounds, Pain Killer had grabbed a bottle of water, replacing lost fluids and dripping a bit on his chest to soothe the muscle. Still, such actions had meant that despite leaving the locker room first, Pain Killer would arrive at his ring second, a brief grin of recognition falling across his face as he rolled into the ring at the opposite side from Dain, standing in the furthest corner.
"You don't call, you don't write... and here I thought we were friends, clown. Though I will say, I'm glad it's you this round. I'm sick of fighting pathetic Watchmen and people who use moves too complicated for their own good."
As usual, Pain Killer spoke with a general disrespect for those who he'd beaten, and who didn't hold a victory over him. In a casual, unworried fashion, Pain Killer slouched into the turnbuckle, his arms draped over the ropes as he leaned back, looking at Dain with a calm, though relatively friendly expression, as friendly as Pain Killer tended to get. He glanced over to the other ring, seeing the two competitors within, and gave a loud laugh, looking back to Dain as he gestured towards the other ring.
"Looks like the kid's up against the girl. I say she'll smack him around pretty quickly, what about you?"

As Dain was bouncing around the arena, his opponent finally decided to show up. Sure enough, Dain's suspicions were correct, and the six-foot-five giant of a man known as Pain Killer stepped into the ring. Dain stopped his little warmup ritual, and couldn't help but smirk at his little comments.
Lucky bastard... Dain thought quietly as he mentioned his former competition. Dain's first round was fair enough, he supposed, as he got out of scot-free, but having Shamino in the second was enough to put the strain of at least three fights on someone.
"Well, excuse me," Dain began in retort, "I guess I just figured you were too busy inciting riots to talk to me." Dain punctuated his statement with a short laugh and a good-natured wink.
The relationship between Dain Gavyns and the self-proclaimed Pain Killer was... interesting, at best. While the two men, through their personal ideals and the company they kept, seemed to always end up on opposites side of almost every conflict, both of them still managed to lean enough towards a neutral stance that they had never been personally at odds with the other, always maintaining a sort of relationship that fit somewhere between acquaintance, and friend.
Adam leaned against the turnbuckle, watching the other ring, in which the two competitors were just beginning to battle. He made a rather derisive comment about Tyler, which brought a small snicker from Dain's mouth. Striding over to the ropes nearest the other ring, Dain leaned against them, his arms hanging over the other side as he looked on as well.
"Yeah... odds are ten to one against the kid, I'd say."
With a smirk, Dain raised his voice, calling out to Kyukaku in the other ring.
"GO GET 'ER TYLER! BEAT HER DOWN! MAKE AUDREY PROUD!!"
Dain laughed, more to himself than anyone else, and turned his head back to look at Pain Killer once more.
"He's your roommate, isn't he? That'll be fun to laugh at him for, after he gets his ass handed to him by a girl."
Satisfied with his making fun of Kyu, at least for the moment, Dain turned around fully and leaned with his back against the ropes. He seemed to be rather apathetic to the start of the fight, seeming pleased enough with the pre-fight chat session instead.

"As if I truly need another reason to make fun of him. Though, the fact that he beats women is a new one, I suppose..."
Pain Killer quickly followed up his comment with laughter, softly shaking his head as he grinned back towards Dain. It had been a long time since he'd had a decent conversation with someone, without planning or starting up a fight. Idly, he noticed Dain's hair was shorter than he remembered, making him wonder just what else had changed since he'd last talked to the older man. After all, Adam had gone through changes, himself, and he could only assume Dain had done the same. His eyes wandered back to the fight unfolding in the other ring, though his interest was rapidly waning. In the end, he'd come to fight, not to watch, otherwise he wouldn't have bothered signing up. His grin slowly fell from his face, replaced by a more serious look, though a small smile still remained.
"Looks like they're starting off at a good pace. Think we should show them how it's done? Or are you too tired to finish what we started back in Varron?"
The last sentence, while somewhat mocking, was meant in good humour, and as the words left his lips, Pain Killer would pull himself back up to standing fully. Taking three steps out from his corner, Pain Killer kept his feet shoulder width apart, while lifting his hands up into his fighting stance. His right fist would be placed close to his jaw, while his left hand would be in a half-formed fist about a foot away from his face. His left leg would lead his body, turning him on a slight angle away from Dain, his chest forming a 45 degree angle from his opponent.
"Alright, Dain. Don't insult me by holding back, because I'll tell you this now, I don't plan on going easy on you."

"Tired? Why do you think I put off fighting for so long?"
Dain turned around to face Pain Killer after he finished the sentence, a small smile playing across his face. In one hand, it had been good to catch up with the big guy after so long, but on the other, more practical hand, Dain, still reeling a bit from his fight with Shamino, had needed those last few minutes to fully catch his breath to prepare himself for the fight to come. Dain wondered offhand if Adam would be angry at him for the slight deception, but in the end, figured Pain Killer would rather have Dain at full strength in a fight, anyway.
The larger student came forward, readying himself for battle. Dain listened to his words, and nodded solemnly, the smile slowly fading into a straight-lipped look of readiness.
"Wouldn't dream of it, Adam. Let's get this thing started."
In a show of respect to his opponent, Dain waited a few moments after he finished speaking to allow Pain to prepare, then kicked off the show, and without being asked, mind you, by rushing forward. Despite the moments of preparation, Dain, who usually started off defensively, hoped to catch Adam slightly off guard, both with his speed and with his sudden offensive.
It was a short ground to cover, and Dain had quickly cut the distance between himself and Pain Killer. However, he had actually, instead of running straight at the big guy, ran at an angle to Pain's left, ducking low to skirt under the big man's fist. Just before he reached the edge of Pain's current arm extension, Dain left his feet, but only slightly, to power a quick shuffling kick. Dain had pushed off with his left foot, reaching out with his right foot to kick at Pain's left knee from a slightly outward angle, hoping to keep himself as far as out of the bigger man's range as possible, at least for now.

Alright, then. Here we go.
Just as Pain Killer was about to begin moving himself towards Dain, the older man began sprinting towards him, rapidly closing the distance at a clip Adam was slowly growing used to. After all, being such a large fighter meant that he was almost always matched up against someone faster than him, and so, he was beginning to get better at reading attacks as they came in, striving to intercept blows before they could land, or to at least make his opponents pay for every strike.
But I doubt you're just going to give me that chance, are you?
Even as Dain ducked underneath Adam's hand, the larger boy began to turn his body, the desire to keep facing Dain rather than let the older man get at his back being an understandable reaction. As Dain began to run out of Adam's striking range with his hands, the sudden kick almost caught the self-proclaimed Pain Killer off guard, shattering his momentary belief that this first maneuver was simply a feint. His left foot slid across the ground, widening his stance and pulling his knee out of the targetted area, though Dain's shoe would skim across Pain Killer's pants.
Rather than let such an opportunity slip by him, Adam whipped his left hand down in a straight-forward punch towards Dain's outstretched leg, targetting the outside of the older man's knee. While unlikely to do any serious damage, it was a step in the right direction for Pain Killer to limit Dain's mobility, and neutralize the speed advantage that Dain currently held over him.

Dain's attack, as should have been expected, was dodged quickly, and Pain Killer wasted no time in following up, attacking the exposed limb. Dain, just the same, wasted no time in his own followup. He didn't know what exactly Pain Killer was expecting from this fight, but, part of him hoped that his next move would somehow catch the big guy by surprise.
Dain's kicking foot hit the ground, and Adam's punch shot down to hit his outstretched knee. Dain, however, was notorious for quickly being able to find his center of balance, and continued to move his own body forward, treating the failed kick more like a large step. Still crouched, Dain's body came forward, coming over the knee, and his right elbow cocked outward, impacting the side of Pain Killer's own elbow. Much like Adam's own move, it wouldn't do a terrible amount of damage, but it would push the attack away, skirting it just off to the outside of the knee.
Quickly, flowing through this all in one smooth motion, Dain, with the weight of his body now centered more over the right leg, pushed off hard with his left, driving his knee up and forward at Adam's gut, hoping to bury it into his abdomen and take away his breath, if only for the moment.

Always the agile little bastard, aren't ya?
Dain's uncanny sense of balance played out once again, allowing him to quickly regain his footing from the failed attack in time to counter Adam's punch. The sound of elbow on flesh signalled Dain's successful deflection, a fact that may usually disappoint his opponents, but not in this particular instance. In this moment, Pain Killer recognized the opportunity being given to him, and once Dain began lifting his left leg to strike, Adam acted.
His legs drove into the ground, thrusting the self-proclaimed Pain Killer towards Dain in a straightforward tackle. With the two of them so close together, and Dain currently only on one leg, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. Adam's right arm would bend in a horizontal line in front of him, intending on driving the forearm into Dain's throat as the two began their fall to the mat. Providing all went to plan, Pain Killer would wind up perched atop Dain, his forearm pinning the older man's throat into the ground, his right leg between Dain's (while carefully not pressing into a certain vulnerable spot) while his left knee was against Dain's right hip.
From there, Adam would set out to continue his assault, depending on how Dain reacted during the fall and landing.

Ugh.
This semi-conscious thought was the only thing to really cross Dain's mind as Pain Killer attempted his usual idea of an attack. Brutal and forward, the big oaf tossed himself in a tackling motion upon Dain, surely attempting to negate the smaller man's speed advantage by pinning him down and wailing on him. A good tactic, unfortunately Dain's positioning would see to it that he would escape, at least this time.
Finding his footing quickly leaving him, Dain kept with his original plan, but with Pain Killer now turning slightly to leap on top of him, Dain's knee would slam up against the big guy's side. Without the positioning, the attack would doubtlessly lose a great deal of the force it had before, but would still knock him around a little bit. Of course, as it struck, Dain's hands shot up to grab Pain Killer, his right taking firm hold of the younger man's shirt, his left shooting out over Pain's right arm to grab him around the neck. With this, Dain used the last bit of footing he had on his right leg to push to his right, twisting his body as he did so, while pulling the hand full of shirt and pushing with his hand full of throat. All this, plus the pushing knee strike from earlier, would serve to fulfill Dain's usual objective in a fight: Redirect an attacker's momentum against them. This time, it was on a much more bodily scale.
With Pain Killer exerting most of his lower-body effort into throwing Dain off his feet, it wouldn't be difficult to twist the man over, causing him, instead of landing on top of Dain, to land on his side or back. Of course, with Dain's hand around his throat as well, Pain, unless he could react as soon as he hit the ground, would be forced the extra short distance over onto his back. Dain, meanwhile, would be working as fast as possible, using the slight bounce from the boxing ring to get his feet up underneath him again, also pushing up with his left hand, conveniently located upon Adam Rydell's throat still.
If Dain managed to get up before Pain Killer did, he would meet the younger man's eyes and raise his eyebrows slightly with a quick smirk for about half a second, before swinging a quick right-handed punch across Pain's cheek as he released his left handed grip, hopping up to his feet and sending a quick left-footed kick to the bigger man's lower ribcage.

Since Pain Killer had turned to face Dain when the older man had been moving past him, there would be no need for Adam to turn as he tackled, his body already facing Dain's when he had attempted his kick in the first place. Moreover, the fact that Pain Killer had been moving towards Dain, rather than remaining where the older male had targetted originally for his knee strike, meant that Dain would not manage to hit Pain Killer at full extension, the best he could hope for was to hit Adam with his thigh. Together, these facts would lessen Dain's shift of momentum, not enough to negate it entirely, but to make it considerably more difficult for Dain to move the larger boy's bulk with just his arms alone.
Of course, the fact that Pain Killer would not idly let his tackle fail would contribute as well.
As he felt his body being knocked off course, Pain Killer's right leg hooked around the back of Dain's right leg, the calf muscle pushing against the back of Dain's knee and keeping it from being retracted as the two fell. Nevertheless, had Pain Killer simply done nothing, there was still a good chance that Dain would manage to twist enough during the fall in order to knock the larger boy on his side, yet there was one key detail that would prove to be the undoing of this action. Pain Killer's left arm, having been deflected earlier, was unencumbered and free to deal with the situation, and deal with it, it would. His left hand palmed the ground, his arm bending at the elbow slightly to absorb the shock before pushing off to bring Pain Killer to a kneeling position. Since he had hooked Dain's leg, Adam would set out to disable the captured limb.
Shifting slightly, Pain Killer would place his knee atop Dain's leg, just inches above Dain's knee, in order to hold the limb in place. His hands would grasp the outside of Dain's ankle, giving him the grip needed to exert a good amount of pressure. His upper body would lean back, putting pressure on the knee joint as he began to force the leg to bend sideways, a direction it was most certainly not meant to go, in an effort to either disable the limb, or force Dain to submit before more serious damage was done.

Pain hooked Dain's leg and stopped his own fall at the very end, managing to pull himself up to a kneeling position as Dain landed on his side, rolling back to land on his back. However, Pain, having set up the attack mid-tackle, grabbed Dain's right ankle with both hands, pulling up forcefully in a direction the knee was very much not supposed to go. If done for much longer, the undue strain on the knee would severely limit Dain's mobility and kicking factor, two things he was going to need to beat Pain Killer.
Unless, of course, he capitalized on the opportunity being given to him here.
Pain had only just begun working over Dain's leg when Dain's left leg would, naturally, swing upwards, leg cocked and ready. The knee swung up, as if the plan was to knee Pain in the side again, but at the last minute, as if being shot from a catapult, Dain's foot swung out in a snapping kick, his shin targeting the side of Pain's head. With both hands working on the ankle, Pain would have to release the grip in order to avoid being hit by some part of his leg.
Unless the leg was captured, Dain would simply follow up with another attack to guarantee his freedom.
His kicking leg would swing down, just as hard as he had kicked up, but this time he would use the momentum in a see-sawing fashion as he swung up with with his abdomen, bringing his upper body upwards and swinging with his right hand in a hard hook headed straight for Pain Killer's jaw, making any necessary corrections from Pain's moves from the kick previous to aim, at least, for the head area.
If caught fully off-guard, Pain Killer would find himself the victim of an exceedingly fast one-two combination to his head, enough to make anyone, at least, faze out enough to get out of a leg-lock, which Dain would do by pushing Pain over and pulling his leg out from under him, scooting away a bit to bring himself back to a standing position.

With everything going as Pain Killer had planned, he spared a glance over his right shoulder towards his opponent. Since Dain was on that side, it was the only direction attacks could come from. As the older man had not sat up, it was safe to assume that his leg was the only limb that could strike Adam with any real effectiveness, at the moment, and the motion of Dain's hips solidified that belief. While Pain Killer had no way of knowing exactly where it was aimed towards, and so, his reaction would have to deal with whatever Dain was planning.
His reaction, however, was a brutal one. One that he would have hesitated on doing to a friend at first, but as the pre-fight banter had specified, he would not hold back. Pain Killer shoved his left foot against the ground, pushing off the ball of the foot, while turning his body left, bringing him in what could be seen as a shoulder tackle aimed at the air in front of him. This would cause Dain's shin to strike him in the back, around the left shoulder blade, as well as put all of Pain Killer's weight behind the pressure he had been exherting on Dain's knee, forcing it to bend sideways unless the older man managed to stop Pain Killer's dive forward, or manage to free his leg enough to roll with the movement, a feat difficult to perform at best with Adam's knee still pinning the leg to the ground.
If Dain were lucky, he'd come out of this maneuver with a sprained knee, at best. At worst, however, the ligaments in the knee would tear, something that Pain Killer did not relish the thought of, but was prepared to deal with after the tournament. After all, in their second meeting, Dain had hospitalized Pain Killer, perhaps it was time he returned the favour.

Many things happened at once, yet Dain stuck to his plan, enabling only a few modifications along the way.
Pain Killer suddenly, and rather quickly for a big man, began to thrust himself to his left, trying to put all of his body weight into snapping Dain's knee. This would only just begin as Dain's foot connected painfully into Pain Killer's back, still managing to do a fair bit of damage, despite not being the intended target. As Dain's foot slammed down, however, he angled it differently, crooking his knee once more and slamming his heel down directly into the back of Pain Killer's extended knee. Not only would this effectively stop the forward charge immediately, killing his pushing momentum before it could overextend the older man's leg, it still set up for the next part of his plan, which would still go through as planned, though in a slightly different, much more voracious manner.
Using the see-saw momentum of his quickly dropped leg to figuratively 'bounce' his upper body up into play, Dain bent both his arms, forearms horizontal, and literally threw his upper body, forearms first, into Pain Killer's side. They would connect with his nearest arm as he pushed back with left leg and pulled with right, hoping to use the suddenness of the technique and the violence of his lower-body jerk to free himself from the bigger man's grasp, as he stood back up to full height, favoring his right leg a bit, nursing it gently as he distributed his weight more upon his left, rear one. All the while, a wild grin was on Dain's face, he had only just begun to fight.
