Pain Killer's nails, in fact, were not long, nor were they sharp. In fact, at times when he was home alone, Adam was known to bite them nice and short, to the point where only after sufficient force would anyone feel them digging into their flesh. Adam had expected that his fingerless glove would soak up enough of Taiku's sweat to make up for the added moisture, but it seemed he underestimated how hard the older man was working. However, there was very little Adam could do by simply grabbing Taiku's shoulder, instead, it was simply meant to make him react.
And react he did.
Taiku jerked his shoulder away, turning his body and pushing against Adam's thrust, halting the larger student who at this point, had no footing on the ground, though given how low he'd lifted from the ground, he would land even as Taiku began to move his left foot back. Unfortunately, it seemed that the former gang leader hadn't thought about moving his right foot, which had been the target of Adam's small jump, and so, Taiku would feel the full weight of the youngest Rydell crashing down as Adam stomped his left foot on top of Taiku's right, pinning the appendage in place in a relatively painful way.
Adam twisted his body to the left, his left arm sliding across Taiku's chest, the hand outstretched in order to catch hold of the older man's bicep once it had reached that far in order to keep that arm from moving. In the same motion, Pain Killer thrust his right elbow at the centre of Taiku'd collar bone, just below his neck. The idea was simple, by aiming at such a low spot, Taiku would be unable to avoid the attack by ducking, as he'd simply be struck in the face instead, and with Adam's left arm occupying the older man's right, there would be little chance of interference from that side.

ooc: I cut it close, but I made it . Win or lose, I'm seeing this fight through ^^ ic: In the midst of his stall of the larger fighter, Taiku would have misjudged Adams foot coming down as he pushed to the side, the outer section of Adams footwear driving down harshly as his foot began to move, clipping the instep of his foot roughly, the heavy material scraping across the top of his much lighter sneakers and crushing the nerves down as his balance brought his right leg up a little further, the mis-step putting his balance out... 'I don't really have anything else I can do...'With his body at such an angle, the elbow that was aimed at his collarbone would instead strike the top of his left bicep viciously, deadening the already injured limb. At the same time, however, Taikus left knee would have shot up and inward to Adams midsection, near his ribs, with a vastly improvised attack that, if considering the force he had already put into his lunge and Adams arm being pre-occupied striking him with the elbow, would crash into the larger mans ribs with a massive amount of power. Adam was aware that Taikus punches were far weaker than his kicks, the smaller fighter having far more strength to his legs, but the force of this knee, if it were to be successful, could potentially break several of the larger fighters ribs if it landed just right...If Adam twisted a little by his own reflex, if his body was just out of position, it would do little more than impact harshly and take the wind out of the fighter a moment. At this stage, it was a case of whoever could get off the best shot, whoever could land the most accurate hit, in Taikus case, if he could penetrate Adams brick-wall of defence and land that one hit to bring the entire shield tumbling down.

Cursing inwardly, Pain Killer felt nothing but disappointment as his elbow struck off course. He hadn't counted on falling off of Taiku's foot, and while damage was damage, he'd had high hopes that one particular move would put the older man away. The longer this fight dragged out, the worse shape either combatant would be in the second round, and Adam already felt he was at a disadvantage with his injured fingers.
Gotta put this away.
In a matter of seconds, Pain Killer saw his opportunity, as Taiku sent his knee up to strike at Adam's midsection. It was highly doubtful that the larger fighter would manage to block the attack, nor was it feasible that he would manage to move his body out of the way in time. Thus, he was left with one option: to interfere with the attack's trajectory. His left foot had landed to the inside of Taiku's supporting leg, and when the older man had lifted his leg to strike, he was left with a precarious balance to work with.
Adam swept the outside of his boot into Taiku's right foot, while at the same time using his left hand to push Taiku to his right (Taiku's left). The combination of the two actions would tilt the smaller man to his left side, causing him to either abandon his knee strike in an attempt to catch himself, or follow through and strike with less accuracy and strength. However, this would not be all that Adam would attempt, for should Taiku begin to fall as planned, Pain Killer would thrust his right elbow up towards the former gang-leader's seemingly vulnerable face, in an effort to finish this fight for good.

In movement, Taikus right arm had been left completely unnoticed, it would seem. The larger fighter was stuck dealing with the incoming knee, and Taiku was no longer in any position to try and concern himself with hesitation. In this, what would likely be the final hit of the fight, he was intent on seeing through his last attack.
'I don't even care about the next round anymore, I'm just glad this was as much of a fight as it was...'
Despite the risk in moving his left arm, he shifted it away from the side of his body where he had been keeping it tightly pressed, limiting its movements in the offchance he had dislocated it when Adam had sent him to the ground before. The instant it moved, the searing pain that rushed through was both a good and a bad sign...It wasn't dislocated, but something was definitely wrong if it was in this much agony. Grating his teeth as he set his palm down to grip against Adams left kneecap, the fingers not losing much of their strength as they clawed at the limb, his right would punch down to the top of Adams ankle with the last of his momentum and energy in this little scuffle, hopefully in time to prevent the kick to his foot that would put him further out of balance.
In doing so, he actually put more weight into the knee as it would travel towards Adams ribs, his body effectively turning like a pinwheel, for want of a better description. It would apparently strike savagely into the larger fighters ribs with its entire force, roughly around the same time as Adams elbow, left alone for the sake of landing one last, worthwhile blow, would strike him in the cheekbone.
The hit was clean and landed just below his left eye, opening a short cut and causing his head to careen to the right as he was finally knocked out of balance and landed onto the floor clumsily, thankfully his right arm being the initial point of impact. A mild consolation considering the injury to his left arm, he thought with a mild laugh to himself as he pushed himself onto his back, taking a few short breaths and sighing as he looked up, pushing his upper body up slowly with his right arm. Whether Adam would attack again was really of no concern anymore, he'd put his all into it and wasn't ashamed to admit that he was running on fumes if nothing more...

The natural motion of Adam's elbow attack turned his body to his left ever so slightly, his ribs in motion as Taiku's knee connected with full fury. The pressure was spread out a little more, however, saving Pain Killer from potential bone breakage, though still sapping quite a bit of strength. Even for a man who believed himself an expert at taking punishment, this round was taking more out of Adam then he would've liked to admit. His instincts demanded that he force Taiku away, as in the shape he was in, he couldn't take many more shots such as that last knee, and so, Adam would do what a larger man was best at; shove Taiku away from him.
As Taiku reached for Adam's kneecap, the self-proclaimed Pain Killer put more of his weight behind his push, his left hand thrusting against the older man's bicep and interfering with the attempted punch, while giving Taiku a bit more momentum as he fell, creating a small amount of distance between the two fighters. In an effort to safeguard himself, Pain Killer's right arm dipped to his side, his forearm cradling his injured ribs as he fell to a knee, his left foot still flat on the ground in front of him. There was no immediate follow-up attack, as Adam simply didn't have it in him at the moment, needing a moment to catch his breath before continuing. The small amount of blood that began flowing from Taiku's face, however, did wonders for the younger man's confidence, and in a supreme show of effort, Pain Killer slowly brought himself to his feet again, his left hand clenched in a fist in front of him, a sure sign that he would continue this battle, if necessary.

Glancing at the larger fighter who had still somehow managed to remain standing, Taikus eyes rolled a brief moment before pushing himself to his feet with a slight wobbling of his legs. As soon as he was up, however, his balance took over once again. Clenching his arms tightly against his body, the fists raised in a clear display of respect to the larger fighter, it would be the first time Taiku had ever raised a full defence against Adam.
"I hate you...No, scratch that. I hate this ring. I can barely move around you in this little box...."
Smirking as he spoke, he shook his head with a slow smile on his face, a touch of laughter escaping the older male as he winced, the sudden tremors sending bolts of pain through his arm...He wasn't about to admit it, not to his opponent, but he was beat, physically he was struggling to keep himself going at the moment, and whilst he was the one bleeding, he took a moments thought at something...
Not only had he brought Adam to his knees, but he had kept him on them a moment as he tried to retain his breath...His fingertips swiping away the light trickle of blood from under his eye wiped themselves on the pants he wore, figuring he'd likely toss the damned things out after this fight. It wasn't a serious cut, but it was a cut nonetheless. It looked bad in the long run, and he didn't bleed all that often. Regardless, standing apart from the bigger guy, his hands raised, he was waiting simply for the last moments of this fight to ring through...
'However it looks, I hurt him. I hurt him badly tonight. Win or lose, he'll remember that he didn't walk through this match...'

"That sounds like an old man excuse, Taiku. Blaming the environment instead of yourself."
The corners of Adam's mouth lifted, his teeth showing in a pained, but satisfied grin. While he was happy that the fight had been as hard as it had, he couldn't help but feel frustrated at seeing his opponent make it to his feet once more. Tired, sore, and in a good deal of pain, Adam gave a slow blink at the sight of Taiku bringing his hands up to continue the battle.
"Do yourself, and me, a favour and stay down. This'll only get worse before it gets better."
Pain Killer, however, doubted that Kazuki would accept such advice, and so, prepared himself to continue. Slowly, painfully, he brought his right hand up to his face, near his jawline, while placing his left fist out in front of him, about a foot in front of his face. Once again, his left leg led his body, though Adam doubted he could fool Taiku into taking the bait once again. While the fight had the possiblity of continuing, there would be no acknowledgement from Adam towards Taiku, no admittance of weakness regarding how tired or sore he was, nor how much he'd enjoyed the fight. Such things could be seen as weakness, something for Kazuki to capitalize on, and Adam couldn't afford such a thing in such a late phase of their fight.
Then again, I don't know how much longer I can go. I'm out of gas, and he seems like he can go another few rounds. I'm probably going to have to hit him with something big if I'm going to win this...
The smallest of laughs escaped Pain Killer's mouth, though he attempted to cover it up as a cough. Hitting something big was much easier said than done, and to do so, Taiku would need to make a mistake, or at least, give Adam an opening to work with. Attacking the older man would ruin such an ideal, at least, given how Pain Killer perceived his opponent's stamina, and so, he'd simply wait for Taiku to come to him.
"I guess it's your turn to start us off again."

I have to give this one to Taiku....though it's gotten to the point that the sole distinction in ability here is the amount of personality Taiku is able to display in his post in comparison to yours. Though technique why's your definatly catching up.
So yeah, finish by monday.

ooc: Whilst I'm effectively finishing the actual fight, I'll be asking both Adam and James to put an IC post regarding the conclusion and judgement of this match. I can't allow this to end with a knockout blow after the run you gave me, Adam. I'd feel like I was insulting you, and with that kind of a fight, it should have an ending that merits both fighters ability. I hope you'll agree to what I'm doing here, and that I'm not trying to cop out the win...
ic:
"You never give up, do ya? I think I proved myself well enough to make you drop the 'old man' remarks, Adam...But, since you wanna play that card...."
Flicking his head to each side, cracking his neck with a dry smirk on his face, he stoicly stood his ground against the larger fighter, his fists tight as he could muster, particularly from his left hand, which was quickly feeling more of the pain from the landing before.
"...Then perhaps a young'un like you, who's lost to me already, needs a couple more lessons taught before we finish this third meeting!"
He would lunge at Adam once more, his feet pushing him off quickly enough to pursue his opponent with a final burst of speed as he charged for the larger man, his voice climbing to a yell as he approached. The attack, however, would never see completion.
-On the sidelines-
"When's the next round due to occur?"
"Not too long...Neither one of these guys will be able to do much more than tend their wounds and get a short spell of rest..."
The two officials who watched over their fight, talking amongst themselves, had grown somewhat worried as things progressed. With neither one of them willing to back down, pushing themselves to their feet to take more punishment from one another, it was inevitably only a matter of time before one or the other was severely injured. So much so, that it was very possible that even the winner of this fight would be so badly beaten that he couldn't continue to the next round. Kurtz, it would seem, would not likely appreciate the idea of losing money on a fight not being able to take place.
Nodding to one another as they turned, the two had just gotten back onto their feet after a particularly crushing clash between themselves, exchanging a few words between themselves. However, it was quickly halted as the smaller fighter made to lunge once again, and as the official clamoured into the ring, he yelled at the same time...
"THAT'S ENOUGH!!"
Luckily, it was enough to halt Taiku before he entered Adams reach, an occurrance which would inevitably bring out, regardless of intervention or not, another scuffle between the two. The smaller fighter stopping dead and backing away, turning to the official with a look of near-anger and curiosity on his face. Holding his hands up, he stepped between the two before speaking loudly....
"Because of the intensity of this match, it has been decided that it shall be judged by the tournament officials to prevent the potential winner being too injured to continue! Please, gentlemen. Take a seat in the ring corners for now. You deserve the rest..."
