It was a dark night, a cold night, a night you wouldn't want to be left out on the streets to rot on. The wind was cold, like icicles cutting against the skin, and hardly felt refreshing. The sky was cloudy, yet above a full moon shinned down upon the city, illuminating San Francisco's dark glory. The streets, however, were for the most part dead. Only here and now would one see a few figures move across the dark paths of the city, scurrying toward their homes in hopes to avoid this dark night. Among these figures was Auroth.... but he did not seek to return home. No, instead he reveled in the darkness. The cold wind felt like the caress of a woman against him, the moonlight illuminated his path, as the darkness seemed to bow to him. Something had compelled him to walk these dark streets, moving between the dank alleys and towering buildings of the slums. His cerulean eyes looked about, searching for any sign of life.... All he found, however, were the dregs of society. The homeless, prostitutes, pimps, thugs, drug dealers, these people were to be his company for the saturine night.
"Why.... why do I walk through the Valley of Death?" He asked, raising his eyes toward the heavens.
Then suddenly from everywhere, hushed whispers filled his ears. They spoke in tongues foreign to him, sounding like the things demons would spew from their mouths. His pace increased, as he continued to walk down the streets. The whispers got louder, ringing in his eyes. He looked around himself; no one was talking, hell no one was even making a sound.... Yet the whispers continued. The blonde broke into a sprint, the whispers getting louder and louder as he ran beneath the moonlit road.... He clutched his head, releasing an agonizing scream that surely woke the neighborhood.
...
He stopped in a nearby alley and leaned on a wall, he was out of breath and very tired. The whispers, however, had left him and gave the White Angel some semblance of peace. He was lost now, as the darkness slowly covered the path he traveled on. The moon then hid behind the clouds, as the wind died down. He looked around, only to find the all-consuming darkness surrounding himself.
"Welcome to the dark side" A voice rang inside his head
"What?!... no.... not you.... What... What do you want?"
"I hoped you enjoyed the whispers... I think they added a sense of dread"
"Just... just shut up and go away"
"I can't do that Auroth.... I need you just as you need me"
"I Don't need you, JUST GO THE FUCK AWAY"
His Other self's voice remained silent... Letting the eerie silence grow in this alley while Auroth tried to catch his breathe....
"Give in"
"What?"
"Give in to me Auroth... Embrace your Darkness"
"NO! NO! NO! JUST SHUT UP!"
"GIVE IN!"
"NOO! SHUT THE HELL UP"
"GIVE IN!!! YOU CAN'T DENY IT! ACCEPT THE DARK!"
"NOOOOOOOOOO!"
With that, Auroth soon reached over, grabbing a pipe as he madly smashed it against a wall. The sound ran throughout the alley, as he yelled "No" repeatedly with each swing. Tears streamed down from his eyes, covering his pale face. His head then started hurting, but he didn't stop what he was doing.... Oh no, all he did was just continue smashing that pipe against the wall, slowly chipping away the metal as the White Angel soon turned his "NO"s into one long scream in agony.... Pausing only to catch his breath before continuing to scream....
...
It is said that all men have two sides to them: Good and Evil. This is the Duality of Man; characterizing the constant internal struggle of good and evil. Perhaps in the end, man must try to maintain his good side while fighting off his evil....
Yet for Auroth, how long can he maintain his good in the face of his all-consuming Inner Darkness? The small spark of sanity and Morality he has left is being beset by the evil from within....
And perhaps tonight, this small spark may finally die....
