Maverik was taking a walk through the city area near the school. He wanted to familiarize himself with the layout, as he would in all likelihood be using it at some point. The tension was running so high that he could feel it even though he had barely left his office on his first day. Hircine had a lot of paperwork for him to do, but he knew it was just busy work to keep him from doing what he was really there to do.
As he wandered, he spied a small coffee shop. It wasn’t anything special, just a regular Starbucks. But he felt like a good hot drink to bring his mind back into gear. He passed through the outside seating area swiftly and slid into the establishment, quietly taking his place in line behind the woman who was busy ordering the drink with the longest name on the menu. Perhaps it made her feel ritzy or something…
She was finally handed a very small porcelain cup filled with what appeared to be mostly foam, and she left contented to a table. Maverik approached the counter and ordered a simple large black coffee with three sugars. The man attempted to correct him by calling it a ‘Grande’, but Maverik ignored the comment, merely pushing a $10 note towards the cashier. A minute later, he was handed his coffee and a handful of change which he promptly pocketed.
He broke the seal, creating a hole from which to drink his beverage, when he stepped outside and saw someone slump into their arms and cry. He then heard a familiar voice softly whisper the word ‘Sensei’. It was Raphael! Maverik was sure of it! He slowly walked up behind the slumped figure and remembered some of the first words he ever said to the boy. He placed a gentle hand on Raphael’s shoulder and spoke. “I guess even water needs to weep when it thinks it’s lost the one it looks up to” His voice was calm and smooth, and his face was a gentle smile.

The touch. This one was extremly familiar to him. He rememberd his time in Varron when he had first met sensei Maverik and rememberd the words he would cherish from then on. ' Be like Water...'. I have been...and i shall always be like the water...calm...gentle and Dangerous. He looked up slowly, and through his tear drenched eyes he made out a figure. The marks of tears going down his cheeks were still there. Finally he rubbed his wet eyes and saw the figure he thought was god himself. No....no it was better! It was Sensei Maverik! He tried to make a smile. But all that came were more tears. But these werent sad tears, these were tears of Joy! "Sensei Maverik...!" He simply out of impulse, Hopped out of his chair and Wrapped his arms around the calm and gentle Sensei he knew and cherished in a bug hug. "Oh god its been such a train wreck for me here....But i can't believe you made it to San Francisco!" (over dramatic...but i felt it needed to be .)

Maverik placed a foot back, catching himself from being bowled over by the eager Watchman. “Hey, hey… It’s ok” He said soothingly as he patted the boy’s head. Maverik had asked for the formal titles to be left to their appropriate places, but for Raphael, he made an exception. “I’ve been here as long as you have; I understand what a lot of you would have gone through…” He smiled gently and motioned for Raphael to take a seat.
“It seems that in coming here, we may have made a few extra enemies…” He said somewhat sullenly as he took a seat for himself. “The pillars for one, are certainly less than pleased with our appearance…” He paused and took a sip of his coffee before noting the way his pupil’s jaw sat in a somewhat funny angle and he seemed to nurse it when he spoke. “I see you’ve already received a rather painful injury… Who gave it to you?” He asked thoughtfully, taking another sip of his caffeinated beverage.

-He nodded and bowed to him as he himself took his seat. and so there discussion soon began. One thing came to mind is that basically, Everyone now has enemies here in San Francisco. "You need not tell me twice sir..." he said, Taking in an amount of his mocha, the soothing warmth of it making his jaw a bit more comfortable to talk with. He mentioned something about Pillars. These must be the elite group that watch out for the captain. "Sir...in my Opinion...Pillars are nothing more then Rats that protect their "Big cheese". If a captain who's so strong that he immediatly initiates an environment that i felt was very, VERY controlling. Then he himself should be strong enough to take on just about anyone. Pillars....nothing more then obstacles that can be demolished. But if they are as strong as the captain is...then its different completely." He said grumply. This could be his true thought, Or Maverik would believe this was the pain of his Jaw that was talking. He mentioned about his Injury. "Yes...unfortunately i did Sir..." He said disappointed. "From a Guy named...Shamino Warhen..." He said looking down.

“Shamino Warhen?!” Maverik spluttered in surprise. “You mean he’s here too?” He seemed to delve into himself a moment, looking at the table. “This complicates matters…” He mumbled quietly. He took a thoughtful sip of his coffee before turning back to Raphael. “It’s no surprise that you’re injured… Shamino Warhen is, shall we say, tiresomely arrogant… But a very dangerous man none the less…” He gave Raph a stern look. “If you happen across him again, do not antagonise him. He won’t hesitate to kill you if you become an inconvenience to him…” He said with a sombre face.
Maverik paused thoughtfully, before holding his hand up, showing it’s back to Raphael. “The Watchmen aren’t out for the count Raph…” He said with a certain air of authority. “I intend to take hold of a new Dojo, and bring about the start of our protection of San Francisco. And I need to know, are you still willing to help me make our home a better place, Raphael 'Mathias DeLaputa' Di Midichi IV?” His eyes glistened in the sunlight, and his voice rang out confidently. He kept his hand held in place, just in front of him. Now the only question was… Would Raphael accept or decline his request...

(i was going to save this for later...but i decided it be best to show it now)
--Back In Varron--
After The seige at the Edge, Raphael was completely drained of his energy. He was brised and bleeding from nearly every part of his body. As soon as he stepped into his bedroom in his warehouse, he plopped flat onto his bed. He turned his head weakly and saw his dresser. A paper and pen were set there. He groaned abit and got up and headed over to his desk. He sat down on his chair and started writing on the paper.
"Dear Maverik Sensei...
You've shown me the light, you have freed me soul from darkness and showed me the peaceful water that i am now. from this day forward i have a purpose and goal that i can live for and fight for the rest of my life . From this day on Maverik Sensei...i pledge my life to you...Lady Xian...And the Watchmen Guild...
Raphael 'Mathias' DeLaputa Di Midichi IV"
However, to make his signature significant He took his pocket knife and cut his finger, watching the crimson fluid drip from his hand onto the paper lightly. He started making out his name, signing it with the significance of his own blood as his own utensil.
--Present.--
Raphael reached into his pocket and grabbed out the "Contract" he signed and handed it over to Maverik. "I think this will answer your question sensei..."

Maverik slowly reached out and took hold of the note. He opened it and read the pledge that Raphael had made, signing it in his own blood. “A blood contract…” Maverik said slowly as he finished. “I’m sure you understand the implications of such a thing…” He added, gently folding the sheet of paper and placing it back on the table, allowing Raphael to take it. Maverik had never seen someone so devoted to a cause, and it was hard to tell just how he felt about it. ‘It is true that having someone this serious about the Watchmen is a great asset… But I wonder how it will affect his own life…’ He pondered silently to himself.
Maverik pulled a card from his pocket, an address printed on it, and a time and date written onto the back. “That is where I intend to bring about the Watchmen revival… It would be a good idea for you to attend…” He said as he stood up, sipping his coffee again. “I want you to think carefully about that contract you signed… If you decide that it really is what you want, then give return it to me after the revival meeting…” He then threw back the cup, draining the remaining half of the still steaming hot beverage in one fell swoop. “Spread the word among the others… The Watchmen is making a comeback” He said as he walked away, tossing the now empty styrofoam cup a bin.

As he saw his Sensei walk off, he felt he needed to have one more say. "Sir...if i may have a last word..." He said as well, getting up and finishing his now half cold mocha. "Throughout the past generations of my Family history, many of my distant and ancient relatives have formed and signed contracts with their on blood on that paper. They've called it 'Destino deciso' Or in an English Speaking italian's term...'Decided Fate'...And Right now my Fate hangs in the balance." He said in a state of pure calm. But his expression changed when he heard what came out of his mouth. N-n-not that im putting a curse or omen or anything bad on you Sensei! W-what i mean is.....Ive chosen my own fate...If im destined for death...then so be it. If im destined for happiness, Then so be it. If im destined for greater things in life, Then so freaking be it. But if Being a watchmen, Delivering justice to Hircinians and varronites alike, Securing a safe haven for everyone is the only means to me acheiving peace in my Hell of a cell life, Then So. Be. It. Ive chosen my path.............And not Lord God, or Hircinians can change it sir...." He said. This was the kinda thing that could be in a speech spoken by someone famous. Raphael simply placed the address card into his pocket and walked in the opposite direction.

Maverik turned to Raphael as he spoke more confidently than usual. He told him that this was his decision, and that he would carry it out to the end, whether that be a better future, or death at the hands of an enemy. He seemed to carry such pride within his words, and Maverik could tell that he was empowered at that moment. He gave his speech, pausing only to reassure his sensei that he spoke no ill of him, and then pocked the card he had been given and turned, leaving in the opposite direction. Maverik watched him walk off into the night, and then, he smiled a little. “Then so be it Raphael” He said quietly into the air, before turning back to the path before him, and walking off towards his home. - - - END OF THREAD - - -
