The Board's Basic Setting
The City: San Fransisco, California of the United States
The School: Hircine High, home of the Timber Wolves
The World: A time on Earth where the Corporal Punishment System dominates the Unites States (and, possibly, other nation's) Educational programs. The setting seems to be sometime in the near future.
What is the Corporal Punishment System?: In the "Xin" Universe (copywritten and produced by www.lifepoint1.com) an unknown national government decides to implement the said law for educational facilities across its land to use "Corporal Punishment" as a tool of keeping its youth in order during their public education. The system was founded by a man known only as Dimir as a way to replace the explusion of "improper students." The program itself grants teachers, student Deans (employed "Security") and even particular student "Pillars" with the ability to use violent force to keep their student body in line. The process began as simple as private school measures - forcing students to hold heavy objects for several hours, striking limbs several times until they grew numb, or nauseating numbers of exercise until the punished student vomited, fell unconscious, or endured the process.
However, the System only grew worse, as the desired result did not occur; punished students did not become more obedient. Instead, they grew more fearsome, more independent, and more rebellious. Rather than assume what many would see as the clear answer, however, the government only believed that more force were necessary. More laws were passed, each one allowing more freedoms to the teachers, the Deans, and the Pillars in their efforts to "quell" the "immaturity of the ignorant." The fingers of students who fell asleep were broken; those who failed to complete homework were beaten until their internal organs bled; students who started fights were captured, tied up, and kicked on until their bodies could take no more, and they were sent to the hospital for weeks.
The Corporal Punishment System is a program that all young people fear. It is a thing of pain, suffering, and oppression, and as parents uncomfortably turn their cheek, believing the wounds will help their children, they never realize the wrong of such a system...
And the rebellion against it.
Hircine High's Political Structure
From the top and below...
The Principal: A figure of absolute power, this person holds the choice of whether you live or die in this school.
The Student Deans: An elite team of former teachers, graduated students, and hardened warriors, the Dean watches over the safety of the Staff, and deals with any students who dare threaten them.
The Staff: The teachers, counselors, lunch ladies and even the janitors are considered the precious members of the Staff. All have the distinct right to use "The System" against any student who threatens or ignores them.
The Captainship: This title is one of the most flexible of all positions in the "School Hierarchy", completely depending on the circumstances of the Captain's personality and rise to power. If a Captain is chosen by the Principal, then they will clearly support the Staff; if the Captain has become the strongest fighter in the entire school, they will clearly rebel against the System and only care for their own needs, or have used the title as a way to aid their fellows; if the Captain has risen to power from popular support of their student body, then their only intention should be the protection of that student body, and the complete rebellion or compromise of the Staff. Whatever situation, the Captain is always the same - the almighty figurehead of the student body.
The Pillars: These are a collection of students of their body that could range from any form of special skills or abilities. Depending on their rise, they could be aids to the school Captain, to the school Principal, or to their own student body. No matter what the circumstances, these figureheads are the embodiment of the body, the representatives of their skill and prowess; whether these skills are true, or merely projected by themselves or the Principal as propoganda, completely depends on the situation.
The Student Body: The dirt of the school food chain, the students are the peasants as the Principal is the King - at least, that is how "The System" sees it. The students range from a huge span of various appearances, personalities, nationalities, and origins, and all with the same intention: survival. Whether hoping to escape bloodshed so they may peacefully graduate, or bring more suffering on their classmates, or even rebel against the system as their former generations attempted, the student body is all setting their eyes on the end of their time in Hircine High... and many of the long-time residents are scoffing at their latest arrivals: the students of the infamous Varron Academy. Large cliques are no longer the issue, as the Academy is known for its dangerous Gangs, and soon more deadly foes are sure to arrive, only forcing more oppression upon them all.
The Population
The Varron Academy Transfer Students: After the shut down of Varron Academy, and the invitation from Hircine to those students now threatened by the consequences of their rebellious pasts, the Varron "Transfers" find themselves in a new city, one completely alien to them - even if they were born and raised in the town of the great Golden Gate Bridge. Those who have experienced the trials of their old Academy will continue to be victimized by their new classmates, only because of the stench that follows them known as the "Media". The people of the world will see this minority as derelicts and dangers to the city of San Fransisco, and any attempte at lashing back will only worsen the additional oppression upon them. These students will find out what it is like to be the "New Kid" all over again, and the only way to survive this new pain is to band together... or fight amongst themselves once again.
The Hircine High Locals: Hircine High, as a whole, has been a very peaceful school as of late, thanks mostly to the efforts of their latest captain, Darren Blayne. Certainly, fights beak out occasionally, and when they are over, they are over, but, as a whole, the school retains the atmosphere of what would have been considered a 'normal' high school before the Corporal Punishment era. The students have grown to enjoy the peace they've been given, even those who enjoy the thrill of battle have been quelled, content with sating it outside of school grounds in the 'real world'. As such, many students, knowing the reputations of the Varron Transfers, are quite leery as to what their presence will do to the school. Therefore, many Hircine residents are unsure and distrusting of the new crowd, and some even show hostility toward the "rouges." While proof stands, only time will tell if the Varronites assimilate easily, or harshly.
The Transfer
So here's a question we're all wondering: why did the transfer happen? Who is to blame? Why are the Varronites in Hircine, and how did it all begin?
Well, to briefly summarize the extend of the final weeks of our fondly remembered board of old, our friend Dain Gavyns will recite:
"The firebombing attack was a success, just like it was doomed to be from the start. Legion fought back valiantly, and would have been the victors of the battle, had it been man to man, yet, the molotov cocktails proved to be too much. A few stray bottles hitting home, and all the alcohol in the place just went up, as it was begging to do from the beginning. The Hand of Fate, though broken and battered, left the clear victor that night, while Legion, though still standing, for the most part, was left without a home.
Without a place to converge, the group went into a state of shell-shock, needing to congregate in order to mass together and defeat the Hand. During this time, however, the Hand had begun to seize control of the streets, subjugating other gangs and running rampant. It was at this time that new measures needed to be taken.
Measures in the form of the father of one student, Aryck Venn.
Unbeknownst to all, even to his own son, Aaron Venn was an officer with the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and had been sent to Varron from his Florida home to keep tabs on the supposed corruption in the federal AND the school systems of the city of Varron. During the mass chaos brought about by the Hand, Aaron sprang into work, not only realizing that neither the school council nor the police seemed to do anything about it, but also found hard evidence that proved they were all directly and consciously averting their eyes, despite having the power to shut them down if they wished. With all the evidence he needed, Aaron called in a strike unit of FBI agents to do battle with the Hand themselves.
During what was quite the war, the high school students within the Hand of Fate found out that, despite how bad they thought they were, they were still just high school students, and could not stand against highly-trained FBI Agents. The Hand was subjugated, and were forced to disperse and go back to school.
When they got back to school, however, they found it empty. During all the newly formed Chaos of the gang war, the school council, seeing the FBI and realizing that their time was nigh, decided to cut their losses and avoid as much legal action as possible by simply shutting down the school, and scattering the students about into the other Public High Schools. However, for unkown reasons (some rumors indicate because of a heavy bribe from Hircine), all of the more well-known students found themselves being transferred to Hircine High.
And thus, the adventure starts anew..."
To those unfamiliar with the events of the old board, the "Firebombing" was the planned assault of the headquarters of a Gang known as Legion - led by Taiku Akimoto; the attacker and his Gang, respectfully, were Kvist and The Hand of Fate. The two gangs engaged each other as Dain described, and then in result, The Edge - Legion's HQ - was destroyed, resulting in the Gang invasion of Varron City, and the sudden arrival of the FBI thanks to Agent Venn's efforts. After being threatened with an investigation of corruption, the Council itself decided its only available option to avoid political suicide was to "terminate" Varron Academy, and therefore shut the school down with the claim that its halls were the source of the Gang violence itself, and that its closing would aid the FBI end the violence.
So in a matter of days, Varron Academy was gone. Just like that.
After the shut down, the Council of Varron City ordered decrees that Varron's student body be transferred throughout various schools across the city, county, and even state, depending on their dangers to the city's safety. However, there were about ten percent of those students with a past and record too high for forgiveness, and the government was not sure what to do with them. Some had been given Varron as a last chance, and it had failed them; others were suspected as being leaders of various Gangs, and were being charged with crimes against the State; others were simply running out of options.
So, for these sad few, it seemed that the life of a dropout, or even a jail cell, awaited them.
Until a strange invitation came to each and every one of them: "Come to Hircine High School. Come here and be rekindled, or face your doom."
And so, what else would a desperate student do? They accept; they travel to San Fransisco, the location of the school, in hope of that one last chance. The question is, why would this school take them, and why on Earth would the Government aid them?
Logic of the Transfer
The idea of moving 200 students from one side of the country (hint: Varron City was considered to be located in New York State) to the complete other side seems to perplex some people. However, the logic of such a move could actually work out through common logic. Had this move required all of Varron Academy's students, then a move would take an entire month, and thousands of dollars in personal costs from parents; then there is the idea that parents may be expected to follow, taking even longer, and costing even more...
However, let's get this straight. Only 200 students or less are being considered for the invitation to Hircine, and considering the fact that these particular 200 (barely more than half of which are RPed) are the baddest people of Varron City, it is highly doubtful their parents - even if they have parents still - would be willing to uproot their lives again, and would more then likely see this as an early college, and send their children to Hircine to be supervised.
Considering then that nearly all students will be alone, the fact of Hircine's state of the art Apartment complexes on campus is a strong argument to allow parents to stay home. All students of Hircine follow these regulations in reference to shelter:
Freshman attending Students -- If Parentless, must live in the School Dorms, and must be partnered with a Lower Classmen "Roommate" (could be NPC or PC). If Parented and/or Guardianed, permission advised to live with their Parent/Guardian.
Sophomore attending Students -- Same as Freshman.
Junior attending Students -- If Parentless, student is recommended to live in the Dorms, and invited to live in their own apartment. If they so choose to live independently, they must inform the School. If Parented and/or Guardianed, the student is advised to live with the Parent/Guardian, yet if independence is requested, the Parent/Guardian must inform the school.
Senior attending Students -- If Parentless, student is welcome to live in the Dorms, and invited to live in their own apartment. If they so choose to live independently, and are 18 years of age or older, no information is necessary from the school; if they are under 18 years old, the school must be informed. If Parented/Guardian, same rules abide as Junior student.
Therefore, parentless supervision is nearly encouraged at this school, virtually leaving the mass majority of the 200 Varronites on their own in these new buildings; whether they're together with a roommate, on their own in a dorm, or even outside the buildings altogether, the masse of them will be parentless. This makes transporation of any sort - whether by train or plane - much faster and easier, especially since the Federal Government was so kind to pay for the costs of the transporation, and since Hircine is a public institution, room and board in the dorms is free.
The New Semester
Some have questioned the time lapse of this transfer, and wonder that, no matter the size, the Varron students would have to wait until August to restart their education. However, due to a tradition started by the old Board last year, it can now be assumed that in this Universe of the Xin WorldR, the Corporal Punishment System school year begins in January. While the specific date is not specified, the idea is the same. If the firebombing is assumed to have occurred just after Christmas (considering, on the old boards, Christmas threads were begun with the assumption that the attack had not yet begun), therefore assuming that the time between Christmas and this unknown January date was the time lapse necessary to haul Varronites to their new school - just in time for the new semester. But still, this leaves open another question: Will the Seniors of this last year of Varron Academy graduate? According to the Staff of this board, and the loss of this year's school records by the Council of Varron, that answer is No. All Varron students, due to the loss of their credits from this last year, are forced to retake their latest year. Therefore, all those who were Seniors of the last year are still Seniors of this year, and so forth.
Finally, the reason behind it all....
While we finally have all that set down in stone, one asks themselves: why did Hircine invite the Varron students? We know that the Varron students are troublesome, dangerous teenagers; perhaps the deadliest youth of the United States, other than those behind bars. So why would a school, renowned for its strong ability to keep peace and educate its students discipline and conformity, would accept such rogues and criminals?
No one knows; only the Principal, and only the Staff. It is far from clear as to the motive of acceptance, but to those of Varron Academy, it is clear: something is wrong, and if they are to survive this new school year, they must keep their eyes open at all times...
And to the local students of Hircine? What of them? What can they think?
What else? They're school is endangered by the transfers! Let the Hircine students deal with the Varronites as any good citizen would to a criminal!
And so, as the conflict between the old and the new arises, the new clash also begins the latest tale of Xin.
So begins... Hircine High.
