Name: Arlen O’Grady
Nickname: Bear (From his father. Arlen is old Irish for bear.)
Nationality: Irish
Age: 17
Weight: 293
Height: 6’11”
Religion: Atheist
Build:
(He’s a big boy eh? The first thing his father said when he saw him.) And so he is to this day. Arlen is certainly tall, and at only 17 with no signs of his colossal growth spurt slowing it seems that this young man may even hit the heights that his cousin Ajax managed to scale. Arlen like his cousin Ajax is an extremely muscular individual. His massive weight comes from a heavy muscular build and an extremely dense and thick skeletal structure. Doctors noted that for his age or in fact for any male at all he has unusually high levels of testosterone, more than likely contributing to his size.
Arlen is big all over, his limbs are long and they are thick with ripped muscle. His torso his broad at the shoulders and narrows perfectly down to the waist, His legs are long and due to his being a Rugby union prop much of his weight lies in his powerful thighs, calves, hamstrings and of course the gluteal muscles (Buttocks). Due to his being a fitness fanatic his body fat is down to a dedicated 7% leaving Arlen with a frighteningly lean appearance for one of his size.
Attire:
Being the size he is Arlen finds it very difficult finding formal attire, as a result he will only be seen in shirts or dress trousers on the rarest of occasions.
His normal and most comfortable attire consists of muscle shirts these are designed to be loose fitting on the average male and as a result they are reasonably snug fitting for Arlen without being too tight. These range in colour, but he prefers white and black, but can often be spotted in the odd blue or green. On the front of these shirts printed in gold on the chest are the insignia of Gold’s Gym (The gym he attends.) On the back he has his favourite saying printed ‘Go Hard or Go Home’
When not in these muscle shirts he can be spotted in a range of Rugby Union or Rugby League tops, He’s also found a liking for American Football Jerseys and can often be seen sporting his favoured New England Patriots top.
On his lower torso he tends to wear loose fitting ‘worker’ style jeans, he often tears these jeans at the knee’s or in the thigh area for added comfort and also for a bit of the rugged style that he prefers to add to his image. Due to having large feet Arlen is forced to wear training shoes these are usually plain white with the odd touch of blue in them for colour. When not in these training shoes he can be seen in one of many pairs of steel toe capped labouring boots that are tan in colour or black.
Eye colour: Light Blue
Hair: Clean Shaven, otherwise dark brown and extremely short.
Distinguishing Features:
A long thin scar on his right pectoral, Arlen received this scar when he was play fighting with Ajax when they were both younger. Ajax was the biggest and the stronger of the two at the time and with relative ease had been able to pick up his cousin and toss him into a bail of hay, unfortunately for Arlen there was a pitchfork waiting for him. Luck would have it that one of the forks instead of lodging into his chest would simply gouge into his flesh causing a rather nasty wound at the time that has now healed into a clean scar.
Due to high levels of testosterone he hit puberty like a freight train, although he is clean shaven he always has a dark shadow of stubble along his jaw line.
Habits: Chewing gum (Big red), Cracking his knuckles.
Other Information
Personality:
Due to playing rugby from a young age, Arlen has a competitive streak in him. He relishes a challenge and if he feels something is worth doing then its best done properly and will throw himself into it heart and soul. Arlen as a person has always come across a nonchalant and even apathetic to nearly all situations that occur around him at times this has got him into trouble where this state of mind has been interpreted as cockiness when Arlen is anything but. For the longest time he has wandered why it is others seem so preoccupied with the world and he did not. After studying the internet and other sources he came across a word. Ataraxia…This is not a specified medical condition it is more a philosophical state of mind. Ataraxia in a nutshell can be described as freedom from worry or any other preoccupation. When asked why he is like he is Arlen now replies it’s because of his Ataraxia.
Among friends Arlen is known to be extremely loyal and good natured, doing anything he can to help those he calls friends or loved ones.
Arlen does have a darker side to his nature, when he feels he or those close to him have been wronged he will take it upon himself to right any injustice he feels has been thrust upon himself or others. Arlen is known to be extremely single minded in his pursuit for revenge and can become a very temperamental even dangerous person to those he regards as enemies.
Hobbies:
Arlen is a bit of a fitness nut. He loves to play Rugby, both Union and League. He’s started to play American Football and has found that he is an extremely effective defenseman. If you’re looking for him it’s safe to say that he will be in a gym of some form or another clamped to the end of an extremely heavy weight.
When not on the pitch or in the gym bettering himself, Arlen enjoys simply procrastinating either on his own or in company, this ranges from idly wandering around (often for great periods of time) or just chilling out playing his Xbox 360.
Extracurricular:
Even though Rugby Union is not a big sport in America, Arlen has found a Rugby Club outside of school and has taken his place in the first team as a prop forward. In school Arlen has joined the American Football team and has walked into the defensive line, as of yet Arlen has not set position. The Coach and the Team are using him in a number of positions finding out Where Arlen will be most comfortable and most effective.
Outside of sport Arlen spends quite a bit of time in the Library studying. He knows that academically he isn’t the brightest person and therefore he has to work for the grades he attains, and if he wants to continue his sport in School then he has to attain a majority grade of C.

History:
A scream rippled through the dark corridors of the old barn conversion, it was the cry of agony as Arlen’s mother began what would be a long and gruelling labour. A loud curse echoed from the kitchen downstairs. Another cry echoed into the night, this one more agonised than the last. Arlen’s father’s footsteps could be heard now as he threw himself up the stairs to the side of his wife. The Doctor had forbidden him from entering, but the man could take no more of her screams…he had to be by her side.
So he was to the bitter end of this long and bloody ordeal. It was the break of dawn when Arlen’s mother fatigued and defeated managed her final push to release a new born Arlen into the world. At first the child seemed to be still born as he flopped lifelessly into the waiting hands of the doctor. Then as the doctor wiped the smeared blood from the babies body and face with a warm moist towel a soft utterance would slip from Arlen’s lips. Arlen’s father let out a gasp of relief and was allowed to cradle his son into his arms.
“He’s a big boy eh?”
The doctor offered a kind smile and a slow nod, Arlen was indeed a large child, which had only added to the complications of his birth. A proud father now turned to his wife. She looked so peaceful as she lay there in the dim light…Then the father realised her chest wasn’t rising and falling as it usually did when she slept.
The doctor almost sensing the father’s fears rose from his place at the foot of the bed and checked the dormant beauty. His face was grave as he checked for a pulse. So it would be that through Arlen’s birth his mother would die and all he would know of her was photographs and stories.
Despite the death of his wife during Labour Arlen’s father never faulted his son for his mother’s death. At his heart Arlen’s father was a religious man, and in Arlen he saw his wife. As a result Arlen’s father doted on his son. Being a farmer by trade he would take the young Arlen out to work with him and from a young age Arlen would happily work the long hours labouring hours required to simply spend time with his father. A result of these long hours of labour meant that Arlen even as a child was unusually strong. Not wanting to leave his father he would work the same long hours.
Much to his displeasure Arlen’s father by law had to either send his son to school, or have someone come and home school the young boy. Arlen’s father was a fairly successful man in his trade and could afford to home school his son, and so for 5 straight hours a day Arlen was home taught. Once his studying was over Arlen would rush out into the fields or the barns in search of his father, where he would work at his side until they had both finished for the night.
Arlen’s early years followed this pattern for quite some time. Other than people who visited the farm Arlen’s world consisted of only his father. That was until his Father announced that his brother Arlen’s uncle was going to be joining his father as a business partner. A surprise for the young Arlen was that his uncle had a son, an older lad by the name of Ajax.
Ajax and Arlen became very close friends. Arlen’s father now he had gone into business with his brother could now afford to higher labour for his farm. As a result Ajax and Arlen were not needed as labourers and when Ajax was done at school he would come to pick Arlen up and the two would head to the local Rugby Club. It was Ajax who introduced Arlen to the world of Rugby and Fitness and Arlen took to both with the same flare and determination of his older cousin.
Ajax and Arlen formed a formidable frontline and pack in Rugby Union. Both the young boys being scouted by Ireland, Ajax turned down the offer. Arlen however agreed and quickly found his place in the first team playing for his country for his age group. Ajax, his father and his uncle would often travel with Arlen for his home and away games.
Once Arlen hit puberty, like his cousin before him Arlen began his process of becoming an extremely tall, extremely powerful young man. His love for Rugby and fitness in general meant he became quite a powerhouse. Although Ajax was the tallest of the two it was often considered this was only due to the age gap between the two. If the two were the same age they would both be a similar height with the possibility that Arlen would even be taller then his cousin. However Arlen was not preoccupied with his height or his strength. He simply realised that he was developing a lot faster than the other members of his team. He was shaving dark stubble from his chin by the age of 15 looking closer to his late teens rather than his early teens.
During these years Arlen found less and less competition in those his own age and therefore he stepped a couple of age groups and began playing in the ‘open age’ of his local rugby club.
Arlen also took up one of Ajax’s new hobbies of wrestling. The two would fight each other on a regular basis. In the early stages of the wrestling Ajax would simply toy with Arlen and would win every time hands down. However as time progressed Arlen got a better grasp of footwork, balance and technique. Ajax would teach the younger Arlen all that he could and eventually it got to the point where the two giants would lock horns for more than an hour before one of them one. In fact the two had been fighting for nearly three hours when Arlen got his first victory over his cousin. A proud day for the two of them.
One dark day in his life Arlen was taken to one side by his father. It was about Ajax. He had been in a fight at school. It appears that Ajax had a close friend…a girl friend who he was protecting from a couple of local trouble makers. Arlen knew that Ajax was an extremely protective person. On more than one occasion Ajax had flawed someone on the rugby pitch when they had performed an illegal tackle on Arlen.
It seemed that Ajax had flipped out and had caused sever damage not only to the two individuals but also to the school as he threw the pair through doorways and into lockers. Ajax had been deemed ‘unsafe’ There was a school in America known as Varron. A place where troubled or difficult students could go, Ajax ha the choice of Varron or prison…he chose Varron. A letter from Ajax to Arlen explained that he was not allowed to see family or friends before he left. Nor was he allowed visitors. Arlen would never see Ajax again. All Arlen received were letters explaining his life in Varron. Arlen wanted more than anything to join his cousin at the school. In his early days Ajax had felt alienated for his size.
Arlen knew the feeling, with Ajax gone Arlen had no one he could call a friend.
Still he wrote regularly to his cousin and Arlen learnt of the people that Ajax had come to know as friends and allies in a turbulent school. The names that cropped up the most were Shamino and Kazuki. Two individuals that Arlen wanted to know more about, but never pried into Ajax’s life too much to find out about them.
One day correspondence stopped dead. A week later Arlen would find out that Ajax had been shot dead by two police officers. The official report was that Ajax had become a danger to the public and had even killed two gang members in a ‘turf’ related brawl. Arlen refused to believe these lies about the gentle giant he knew. The man explained in these papers was not Ajax as he knew him. He must have been driven by some anger. Arlen and Ajax share a lot in common and one was there single minded pursuit of revenge on those who had wronged them. Ajax had been wronged and Arlen knew this. Ajax had died at the hands of those who had wronged him…in doing so they had wronged Arlen.
Once he had read this letter Arlen flipped out, fortunately he was in private when he slipped into self destruction. Everything he could get his hands on he destroyed. After his frenzy Arlen would collapse.
A week later Arlen learnt the two officers responsible for the ‘heroic’ act of stopping a raging giant had been found dead. Arlen was unsure who would carry out such a task other than himself. Maybe a friend of Ajax? Perhaps they were killed by gang members with a vendetta against the police? Arlen didn’t know, but he could rest knowing Ajax killers were brought to justice in a manner befitting their crime.
Arlen spent much of his time throwing himself into the solitude of his training. He spent all his time in the gym or on the rugby pitch. A new tenacity entered everything he did as he fought against the loss he felt at the death of Ajax. A result of this fervour was Arlen reached heights in his physical prowess he didn’t even think he could attain. He was stronger than he had ever been. He entered mixed fighting competitions and found that even withy his lack of technique his raw power and almost indefatigable constitution meant that he could crush many who stood before him. However Arlen also learnt that even with these merits there were still those smaller and weaker than him who could beat him…simply through technique alone.
Arlen’s competitive streak meant that along side his studies he would read books on any fighting technique that he could get his hands on. His dogged determination and willingness to train for long hours saw his own technique coming through. Like Ajax, Arlen knew his prowess lay in his explosive strength. In one of the books Arlen found page after page written in Ajax’s own hand. Arlen had found Ajax’s own personal fighting style. Arlen abandoned his study of other fighting styles in favour of Ajax’s own. He felt he owed it to Ajax to continue his legacy.
His mind made up about continuing his cousins legacy Arlen decided that he wanted to school in Varron. However he learnt that Varron had been shut down. The reasons why Arlen was unsure off…it seemed that the volatile nature of the school had finally dragged it down. Arlen did discover however that the students of Varron had been transferred to Hircine High San Francisco. Arlen knew this would be the place that he must travel too. And so he did. At the fresh age of 17 he enrolled at Hircine High. He secured himself a dorm room and after a week at the school he’s finally beginning to settle in. Arlen now feels comfortable enough to start interacting with the students of both Hircine and Varron.
Fighting Style:
Arlen like Ajax relies on his merits. These merits are clear for all to see. Arlen’s style is a close almost carbon copy of his cousins. He’s a trap fighter, Arlen likes to keep himself balanced at all times. He doesn’t like to over stretch and due to his size and reach he finds he doesn’t have to. Arlen aims to keep his feet firmly on the floor at all times. This eliminates the use of kicks from his attacks. However when he has his opponent in a grapple he will use his knee’s to batter his opponent.
Arlen favours using a weathering technique. He knows he had a high constitution and he knows he has high stamina and a clear head. So he likes to counter attack, his attacks are generally faux attacks that are designed to open himself up for his opponent. Once his opponent strikes for his opening he takes advantage of the situation often using his careful footwork to guide himself into a favourable position from which he can work. Arlen favours getting a hold his opponents and once he has them he will use a variety of holds or throws to crush his opponent into submission or unconsciousness.
Arlen has also taken the time to learn a number of striking techniques, he has found out that his blows are sickeningly powerful and, those who have been foolish enough to straight out block them have learnt that it’s nigh on useless to do so as massive fists slam into flesh and bone causing heavy trauma damage to the blocking limb.
Arlen’s style relies heavily on his being bigger and stronger than his opponent; from there he likes to smash them into everything he can see. Or simply beat them down with his body.
Strengths:
Arlen’s strengths are apparent from the moment you lay eyes on him. Arlen has excellent reach. Arlen is heavy and he freakishly strong for one so young. His years of rugby have given him excellent balance and hand eye coordination. Arlen’s years of contact sports and wrestling with Ajax, indeed his sheer size and physical prowess means he has abnormally high constitution as well as very high stamina. Arlen is very much geared toward the long haul of the fight. If he can’t crush you in an instant then he will let a fighter tire themselves out and then in one explosive movement he will take them down and hammer into their tired bodies.
Another physical strength he has comes from his long hours in the gym. His strong limbs means that his actual foot work and hand work are fluid and fast, gearing him toward a style that relies on good reactions and coordination in a fight.
Weaknesses:
Arlen’s floor speed is slow. Being bigger and heavier he is not as light on his feet as smaller opponents. Manoeuvrable foes annoy him greatly as their constant movement removes him from the head on fight that he prefers. His size also restricts his arsenal in a fight, Arlen will never use an aerial attack he is simply too big and too bulky to pull off such techniques. Nor will an opponent have to worry about a kick being thrown by Arlen, as a result foes only have to watch the upper body of Arlen where as he has to focus on the lower and upper torso of his opponent.
Arlen’s Ataraxia also means that for him an adrenaline rush is a very rare occurrence, only in fights that push him to the very limits will he ever get an adrenaline rush. Instead Arlen is forced to rely on his own natural strength and stamina. Much Smaller foes have often been a problem for Arlen also as he finds they are pretty much able to slide under him…he see’s it very much like a bear fighting a squirrel. If he ever got a hold of them he’d tear the bastards to pieces…it’s just getting a hold of them that’s the problem for him.
Note: Brought to you from the creator of Ajax and Sebastian. So I know many of you anyway, but when I role play with Arlen he’s not going to know you from Adam. I’m pretty much starting from scratch with this guy.
