...
The two men were silent throughout the trip to the school. To be honest, Tae still had no idea why he was in this country. When he asked his grandfather, he was met with silence. So Tae added fuel to the fire, fighting silence with silence, looking out his window, while his grandfather looked straight ahead.
Later, they reached a building that resembled a school, and it was then Tae realized he was going to school here. Raising an eyebrow in confusion, he turned to his grandfather and gripped him by his shoulder. "Why?" he asked in his native language, Korean.
"I cannot believe you," his guardian replied quietly. "You assaulted a teacher. You harassed a girl. You cheated on tests. You attacked your classmates." He paused, taking a deep breath. "Need I go on?"
Tae looked at his grandfather in disbelief. What? The middle two weren't true. The girl had been looking distressed, and when he walked over to talk to her, his classmates raised a stink. The situation escalated into a fight, but there had been no harassment in that situation. Secondly, cheating? He didn't have to cheat. He went to a shitty school in urban Korea; the work was piss poor easy, and so, he hadn't even bothered to go at times.
"Grandpa, I-" he began, attempting to rectify the situation.
"-am a liar." Tae's expression turned to one of fury.
"No, you are a gullible-"
"Enough! Get out of my car and go to school." Tae froze, looking at his grandfather. No words could get to him now - it had been like this for as long as he knew, and he saw no reason why he would change now. With a "tch," Tae opened the door and hopped out, slamming it behind him with nary a glance.
He's gone, Tae thought, watching the old man make a right and disappear around a turn. Fuck him, he thought angrily, and shook his leg idly, wondering what to do. Should he not go to school and explore the city? Or should he just go to keep things quiet?
"Decisions, decisions....," he whispered in Korean.
