I can't believe I'm gambling.
Kai stared down at the surface of the green table, and watched as one car made its way in front of him, and then another. He took a small peek at the cards, looking at just the numbers and the suit. Not bad. Ten and nine of spades. He sighed, as though he'd just received crap cards and knocked twice on the table. Call. He watched as the elderly man before him grumpily flicked his cards back to the dealer.
"Fold," he growled, and folded his arms across his chest.
Kai scratched his bare feet together, to some of the other players' annoyance. They'd put up with his oddities for an hour, thinking they would make money off him, at least. How wrong they were. Kai watched as the small and big blinds put in their share of the chips and knock twice on the table.
The dealer began dealing the cars, turning one over, and flipping over the next three. Eight of hearts. Ace of Clubs. Jack of Spades. Kai's heart pounded. Possible straight flush. He stared at the table, thinking about what to do. One man, the big blind, had already bet five hundred. Kai looked up.
"Call," he said softly, and scratched his chin. I'll risk it.
The woman, the small blind, thought for a moment. "Fold," she sighed, and flicked her cards across the table to the dealer.
"Just Mr. Morei and Mr. James," the dealer, an attractive brunette announced, and dealt the next two cards, flipping one over, and revealing the other one. Queen of Spades, Kai thought excitedly. Next one is a King. I know it is. "I bet two hundred," Kai whispered, not letting any of his emotions show through. The man named "Mr. James" laughed.
"Pretty bold, ain'tcha? Raise to four hundred," he chuckled.
There was a short pause.
"Call," Kai said, after a moment, feigning hesitation. There was a low, "ooOoo" from the peanut gallery, and the dealer dealt the next card. King! Spades! he thought, his mind willing it to be what he desired.
Seven of Spades.
Kai almost scowled. It'll work. Not what I was hoping for, but it'll work. "All in," Kai said softly, pushing two grand worth of chips to the center. After he'd performed this motion, he reached over to the cup of tea next to his cards, and took a small sip. Gonna be a long night.
The man's smile faltered a bit, and a bead of sweat dripped down his face. "I.... call...." he said, gritting his teeth. No way he'd be shown up by a kid, who couldn't even sit properly. He, too, slid his chips over, and waited.
"Alright," the dealer said coolly, and motioned to Kai. "What do you have, Mr. Morei?" No words came from Kai.
Instead, he slid his cards, stacked on top of one another, so that it looked like one. Next, he slowly flipped it over. A nine of spades was revealed. He watched Mr. James twitch. Suddenly, Kai flicked his finger over, and revealed the ten of spades. Laughter came from the peanut gallery.
"James is done.[/i]
The man flicked his cards over at the dealer angrily and got up, straightening his suit, and walking away.
"And the pot goes to Mr. Morei," the dealer said distractedly, bewildered by the man's sudden leave.
You're out, Norman.
