“What do you mean I have to wait a week! Isn’t there someone else I can talk to. There can’t only just be one guy who conveniently is romping around Mexico for the next week! Isn’t there a number I can contact him..”
Victoria’s tone was harsh as she tried to calm herself. How can this happen? The girl on the other line tried to assure her that a week wasn’t that long but Victoria didn’t listen. Instead she hung up on the girl and grunted. How was she supposed to get Kyukaku back in Hircine if the guy in charge of the documentation is out of town.
“Must be nice to go on a trip and leave no one in charge.”
She grumbled to herself as she leaned over and paid the taxi. Getting out she faced the restaurant. After a long day at the school she really didn’t want to go in with her mood. Bob and Sally have been great to her and she didn’t want to ruin it by her snapping at them without realizing it. Deciding that going for a walk would help her loose some of the steam she had going, she turned away from the entrance.
Victoria walked down the sidewalk. Her heels clicking on the pavement. Her hands shoved into the pockets of a leather jacket she had purchased only a week before. It was getting cooler out. Nothing compared to the cold nights of New York but enough to make you shutter when a breeze decided to pass by.
The night sounds where all around her. She couldn’t help but try to unwrap her brain from her frustrations. The actions of Shuya still boiled in her blood but she could not doubt that he thought he had his own good reasons for it.
Turning around the block she started to think of what would become. Would she have to employ more security. It was bad enough the school looked like a prison already. The safety of the students had to be a priority and leaving them open for Paragon students to tromp through was inconceivable.
Thinking of all the possibilities of things gone wrong seemed to start giving her a headache. She really needed something to detour her brain. She couldn’t obsess about something she could not control. Things will happen with or without her she could not be everywhere at once. She could not shut students in to protect them without them wanting their freedom. She would have to rely on the Pillars, the Captain to help maintain the peace. The idea of Pine being her spy gave her at least some reassurance that she will be able to sleep at night.
Stopping at a crosswalk she looked both ways before continuing on. Her short strands of hair slightly moving on her forehead as a car would pass by. She felt like she needed someone to talk to but unsure if she would have anyone. As a matter of fact she had sent Tak back to New York. His departure was only a week before but the thought of him gone made her feel lonely. She really didn’t have any friends, no one to talk to. She couldn’t understand why she would feel lonely. She had been alone for two years and it seemed as if it decided now of all times to play catch up.
The thought of a companion sounded good even to her. The thought of dating again seemed a little out of the question though. Maybe a pet? With that thought came a sudden shake of her head. She couldn’t with her still living in the basement of the restaurant.
“Maybe I should find myself an apartment..”
She said to herself lightly. She was sure with her steady income she could manage something. Nothing luxurious or large. Something small and homey would be nice. The last place she had lived in was pretty horrid now that she thought about it. One of those old buildings back in New York where there was only one bathroom on each floor and enough mold to crumble the walls if you barely touched it. Back then she didn’t have the money and that was the best she could do on her own. Life changes so much in such a short time. She thought to herself.
Getting an apartment shouldn’t be too hard. Course she would have to use the money she was saving for a vehicle but that didn’t deter her. Stopping rather abruptly she could hear the sounds of a saxophone. The sound was so familiar but the feel was different. Victoria stood on the walk way just listening the smooth sounds of the sax. The player no doubt in a world of their own. It gave her some remembrance of when she was younger and Nicholas would play for her to calm her down after a night full of scary dreams. She was one to have nightmares every night when she was younger but something about those smokey tones calmed her to sleep. The lull of that smooth jazz carrying her into more pleasant dreams. She couldn’t help but feel homesick being away from her misfit family.
When the sound of music seemed to dissipate she moved on. The clicking of her heels on the concrete becoming a pattern among the sounds of an occasional horn or music being blasted through speakers as cars drove past. It was only a matter of time before she would have to turn around and head home.
