Rick laid back on the somewhat soft hospital bed just trying to relax. Though he was finding it more annoying than anything else. For starters he really didn’t want to be here, it was his aunt who had made him come to this accursed place after he’d made it home with a large bloody cut under his eye. What’s worse is the fact that the doctor gave him the third degree while he was getting patched up. Annoying questions like who had done this to him and so on.
Rick sighed; the worst thing though was the fact that they wanted him to stay overnight. He didn’t see why he had to but the doctors insisted that he do it, and with his aunt the constant worrier there was really no point in arguing. Though he did entertain the notion of escaping. However that would just cause undue stress for his poor aunt. So he decided just to ride the whole thing out. Plus maybe if he spent a day away from the scene’s those Hircine guys would forget his face.
“Not likely.” Rick said to himself. He looked up at the pale white ceiling trying to find something to keep his attention. “Oh screw this.” He said.
Rick pushed himself off the bed and headed for the door. He opened it slightly to check and see if anybody was around. There were two ladies chatting each other up by the nurse’s desk but they looked like they were here just to visit. Rick opened the door slowly and snuck out of his room trying not to draw attention. After he was fully out of his room he walked down the hallway away from the two the ladies.
Since he was still in his jean shorts and shirt he looked like just some guy rather than a patient of the hospital. So when he passed the occasional nurse he didn’t worry too much. Still he couldn’t help but get a little tense. After making his way down a few halls Rick realized that this place was just as boring as his room. There was literally nothing to do but roam the hall to where ever it ended then turn back and go the other way. The problem with that was somebody was bound to get suspicious of his roaming around.
Rick looked up at the clock posted on the wall. It was only eight forty-five; the walk had taken less than twenty minutes. This was going to be a long night, he could tell.
“Well I guess the only thing left to do is head back to my room.” Rick said to himself again. He looked around but the hall looked the same as the last one. Just doors upon doors with numbers and a little tag indicating they were occupied. “Damn I wish things weren’t so damn boring, oh well.” Rick turned to head back when he suddenly heard the clicking of footsteps. He froze waiting for them to subside but they didn’t, instead they grew louder and were joined by the accompany voices.
“I’ll check down this way Doctor. I think I saw him come this way.”
Ah Shit!
Rick looked around for a hiding place, out in the hallway there wasn’t any. This wasn’t good; some little goody-goody nurse had gone and told the doctor about him. Now they were out looking for him and if they found him they’d take him back and lock him in his room. That was something he just couldn’t let happen.
Thinking fast Rick picked the first door closest to him room number 413. The door didn’t budge though and he realized then that they might just lock the doors so no one could disturb the patients inside. ‘Crap’ Beginning to panic Rick looked around but the footsteps were already to close, he was caught for sure. With nothing else to do he ran to the next door. He grabbed the handle and twisted it, the door opened with a small click. Rick ran slipped inside quickly and shut the door as softly as he could.
Rick puffed out fast breaths before finally breathing out one long sigh. He rested his head against the door. For now he was safe from the evil nurse lady and her even more evil doctors. That thought brought a small smirk to his lips.
