...It's awesome. I saw it twice. My friends plan on watching it the third time. Heck, I'm willing to watch it again.
If you hate Dreamworks because the majority, if not all, of their CG animated movies are horrible, prepare to finally have a bit more respect for them because this movie is on par with the more better Pixar movies out there.
I admit, I expected the movie to be stupid like all the other CG Dreamworks movies. The "all star cast" that most kids don't give a darn about, the soundtrack consisting of nothing but pop culture blah, and the whole slap-stick comedy feel it gives off in the commercials. Not to mention that whole "every character moves into bizarre poses in the next frame", a la Madagascar, Over the Hedge, and whatever else they made that burned my eyes whenever they show up.
I was extremely pleased to have my expectations blown away. The "all star cast" didn't battle for screen time (as only two of those characters mattered), the soundtrack is beautiful (Hans Zimmer + some other talented dude; I just bought the soundtrack today), and the comedy is funny when it needs to be--none of that annoying overload of puns or parodies. Best of all, the depth of the story, quite a few characters, and the presentation... The opening sequence sent chills down my spine. If anything, this was an animal-themed CG kung fu movie done right.
I don't want to spoil it. Watch it dammit.
Dreamworks better learn from this and not spew any more crap.
(I still think they could've replaced some of the "all star cast" with other VA's who could do the job just as well though. I mean, Jackie Chan only got like 3-4 lines.)
Blah... If this thread is out of place, just kill it with a lock.
