Victoria’s eyes read through each paper carefully. Going over each line, pausing at each period. She was doing her homework on Hircine High. She never liked the idea of homework, doing something that required attention. Course she always found it easier doing everything last minute. Really pounding things into her brain but tonight she just felt blah.
Looking over at Tak, Victoria threw the handful of papers over in his direction watching as they scattered around the basement floor.
“What’s the sense. I mean really. I missed out. I missed the whole kit and caboodle, missed the boat or whatever the hell the saying is. Tak the guys is gone. Who know what happened. But there’s no sense of me trying to walk in now and say ‘Im here to see the Principle.’ When I don’t even know who that is anymore.”
She got up from her little cot she was sitting on and paced the room out of frustration.
“That damned, MacMillian guy isn’t there any more. How can I get answers now or at least my foot in the door if I can’t even figure out what the damned school is doing. It would be nice to have an inside leak but its not like I can just march right up there with my hair done up nice and say I want to attend school. Heh Im too old for that now.”
“Why don’t you just be curious and ask if the position is filled. I mean its not like you can’t be a concerned citizen.”
Tak threw out there as he watched her pace before grabbing her arm, making her stop and ushered her towards the cot again.
“Your making me nervous. I hate when you pace like that. Your going to wear your socks down.”
Victoria rolled her eyes and sat on the cot.
“I can’t help it. What am I supposed to do now. Its irritating that I just don’t know what’s going on. I mean come on Tak. I can’t just go storming in there now. I have no clue what’s going to happen or who’s going to be in charge. I mean I know Im able to take care of myself but even I know that’s a little careless. Hell for all I know students are running the school.”
She dropped back, her head hitting the pile of blankets. Thinking. Her mind racing to possibilities on what she should do. She wanted to help and damn it all if her chances were just becoming slim.
“What to do, what to do?”
Victoria could hear the noises upstairs from people laughing over their meal, to the scramble of kitchen cookware. She was getting tired of the waitress scene. She was itching to do something important. To help the students like she wanted to. But how. How can she do anything when she was left with old information. She hated being on the outside. Never knowing until the last minute. How was she going to get her foot in?
Drumming her fingers on her flat belly, she spoke in a questionable manner as her eyes danced on the ceiling.
“Hey Tak. Do you think they will be hiring a new Principle or just appointing someone to do the job. I mean how would we be able to find out what’s going on? Do you think it will be in the paper, or on the internet. I know they pretty much have everything posted everywhere even if they don’t want it to.”
She leaned upwards, looking down her body towards Tak who fiddled with an old toy or something that was in a box in the basement.
“I don’t know Victoria. I could always give Jackson something to work on.”
Victoria lifted higher, propping herself on her elbows looking at him.
“You really think he can find something for me?”
“I don’t see why not. And you said it yourself, it should be posted somewhere. Jackson’s good with his computer. He might be able to find the information you will need. If not that. Maybe update your resume and find yourself a job in there. Then, you’ll have all the information you will need.”
Victoria suddenly pictured herself in the janitors position. The thought of it was horrid. How could she get any other job besides that. She had no formal training. She even blackmailed her way into the so called Vice Principle’s seat over in Varron. What was she going to do. She’ll be stuck washing floors and lifting unknown sticky substances off of things as highschool kids laughed at her and creating more work just to terrify her.
“Damn it.”
She grabbed her pillow and slapped it over her head. The thought was a total nightmare but something needed to happen.
