Hmm I can't seem to think of a style that I like so does anybody have any good suggestions? I was thinking something along the lines of kick and/or grappling oriented.
Just throw style names and such at me please! I'll look them up...

If I were you I'd stick to what you know. I don't really know any disciplined style so I just go with instinctive basic fighting. Seems to work well with me. Most people I know would say the same.

Well, my specific character studies both Ju-Jit-Su grappling and Jing woo tai chi. I study both of those, as well as tae-kwon-do, Variants of kung foo, and shoalin (just learning) i used to do anderground street boxing (fight club style) and more, and all this over the past 10 years. If any of those appeal to you, take a look, though to really understand the fighting style youd have to actually practice them.
Its hard to know what to do IC if you dont know what your doing in real life (no offence)

=P Strangely, if you don't know any style, both IC and OOC, it might work to your advantage depending on how you RP. I once had a character that practically knew nothing about fighting but was a fast learner... Then one day, she got blown up by another character. That character taught her how to fight and one thing after another, as she got into more fights, she got a really weird style that's a cross between muay thai and using the environment to crush people.
^^; In Valencia's case, I've been noticing that her lack of style has been deviating to grappling people, especially by the neck, and bringing them to the ground. Strangely, lots of fights caused her to do that instead of having her fall back on her stuntwoman training.
Overall, it's easier to fill an empty cup than one that's already full. Personality ain't the only thing that can be fleshed out through RP~

Overall, it's easier to fill an empty cup than one that's already full. Personality ain't the only thing that can be fleshed out through RP~ Did you get that from The Forbidden Kingdom? Anyway, the camps are sorta split on this issue. Some, like, say, Kyukaku and Taiku, are good at what they do because they have been training in a real martial art for a long time, and are intimately familiar with the style they're writing into their character. Others, like Shamino and myself, on the other hand, come into the ring with no actual fight and/or martial arts training or experience, and, well, Shamino is considered one of, if not THE best, butt-kicker around these parts. Personally, I think its easy to break down most martial styles to a fundamental level, and understand the basic techniques. So what I do when making characters, if I even give them a real style as their fighting style, is to have them 'modify' the style in some way. That way I can take all the tenets of the style I understand, and fill in the ones I don't with something else entirely.

Why not both? Experiment a bit. See what feels comfortable to write. If you want kicking though, screw Te Kwon Do. Tekkyon. A billion times harder but better results. Try Judo as well
FYI: Jam Cloudberry uses modified Pa Kua Chuan (Ba Gua Zhang) Mind you, it'll be hard in RPing this without a good understanding of the art.

Forget names and styles, all fighting is is discharging a force with your body onto another or likewise maneuvering their force so it doesn't hit you which is conveyed with punches, kicks, grabs. All fighting style is is more elaborate sets of these three basic skills.
