I can't remember any thread being about this, but how do you pronounce Hircine?

I'm pretty sure its "Her-seen." That's how I've always pronounced it, and I noticed thats how it was on Val's radio show.

I think I asked Leon the around the time I joined this board and commented how it made me think of chocolates... Dictionary.com has an... Interesting take on it, now that I looked it up.

Up until Valencia's Radio show I was always mentally pronoucing it Hur-kin, even after seeing Hircine on Oblivion as a good I never thought of pronoucing it differently.
But, Her-seen makes a bit more sense.

Hir-Kine is what I always think, but I heard Valencia pronounce it as Hir-Seen, so yeah, I am doubtful now...

God, I am too now. From the start, I based the pronunciation off of what I heard in Oblivion - Hier (rhymes with "ear") - cene. That's how I've always known it, but I can see why people pronounce it as Hurcene or Hercene. Still, that's how I've always said it, anyway. But Dictionary.com's pronunciation makes the school sound a whole lot less badass. Not to mention the definition.

I always pronounced it Her-sine. But then... one day I thought about it and said Her-cene... so then I confused myself on how to pronounce it xDDD.
Yes. Considering that we're the Hircine Timberwolves, I kinda find it ironic for the definition to say that. Nonetheless, still cool, as its my Zodiac animal (well, I say Ram.)

I'm still not convinced and think we should pronounce the c as an actual k and put more strength to the name. Her-cene is for nice kids... the real badasses just say her-kine!

Play Oblivion, the game in which the name was stolen from (for some reason...) and find out.
It's not a good game without about 10 mods though, so be careful.

I find the GotY edition on ps3 to be rock solid... but where can I find them using the name then? I played the main story and all factions on normal oblivion pc but cannot remember?

It's one of the Daedric shrines that you can go to, it's somewhere north of the Imperial City, I think.

Hircine's shrine is directly south of Imperial City, and a little bit off the beaten road. If you come across a bunch of Minotaurs and a "Unicorn," turn back around. But that's off topic, so moving on.

Yeah I did get that unicorn... cool little creature, leads to a lot of fun... but we're going off thread here, I'll have a look at the shrine though

Well, personally I've always thought it was the way Shuya said it... And for the reason he said it xD it sounds better.

I always pronounced it Her-seen or Hear-Seen, depending on the way I said it. I've never pronounced it with a hard k, as I don't think it's quite as elegant or cool. I think The soft c is a better heir to Varron than k...

hmm no one pronounces it as 'her- sign' or 'here-sign' ? o.O Maybe that's just British or something, but for me a 'ci' sounds like sign rather than seen.
