Well, they've been talking about the development of this upcoming game for some time on LP1, so I'm curious as to how everyone else feels about it. Particularly, I'm talking about the recreation of the characters.
While some of the recreations are well done and stick pretty well to what the characters were originally going to be, I'm noticing trends within the process that I'm not too keen to. First, all of the characters seem to be getting older and more dignified, which in my opinion gives them less quirkiness, and in turn less personality. This wouldn't be so bad if it was only a character or two because any diverse cast needs their strong silent types. My point is that it's happening for all of them. Case in point: Flee Wong. He used to look like a hard-charging, stubborn, 'do what he feels like' kinda guy before, but now he looks like a 'sit back and be boring while letting my henchmen do the work' sorta guy. Second Example: Kent McDermott. This guy used to look like someone who was in over his head and had to do a lot of crazy improvising and seat-of-his-pants type moves just to get by, but now he looks all serious and calculated, which is again, boring. I feel the same way about the characters Isis and Kim So Hyun. I just feel like I enjoy playing as flawed humans rather than robots.
Also, some of the art looks really awkward. Does anybody else think that Steven has a tendancy to draw characters WAAAAY too tall? I mean, Kent is 70% legs. I wouldn't even want a woman that was 70% legs, but a man is even weirder. Again Kim's whole picture just weirds me out.
I dunno, this is kinda just a rant by now. I'm just saying that when I look at all of this remastering garbage, I think that most of the characters were better the way they were. Now they all look old, boring(not that those two are connected), and even awkward for some. Granted some of the changes were necessary, like making Rachel Holmes look to fit her bio(although her job now says "head of a small gangster group on the tempest page), but all in all it's kind or a take it or leave it process.
Still, I am honestly psyched for this game, and can't wait to see how it turns out. Here's hoping we get it before 2010.
