The new staff are appointed. Now, I am sure that some of you will be disappointed at not being selected, some may wonder about my choices, hence why I have decided to justify each place.
Administrative Positions
Kurtz: An infallible debater, his argumentative skills are pretty much unmatched. He's capable of doing this job as well as anyone, had it not been for his transatlantic move I would have chosen him as one of the admin-lites. It should also be noted that Kurtz will be responsible for the tournaments, and in that regard only I will need to talk to him about them.
Maverik: Well known, easy to approach and quick to take newcomers under his wing. Also one of the few staff members who can cover the boards activity in the more awkward time-zones, thanks to his placement in Australia.
Shamino: Needless to say I expected a few people to question this last time, but most seem to say 'Why not sooner?' and the like. Simple. Beforehand, I was wary about giving Paul any power because of his tendency at times to get too aggressive with people who disagreed with him, but after the trial periods he showed that he isn't one to abuse that control.
For those who may wonder 'Hey, why do we need THREE more admins?' Let me note a thing or two first. My other account with Taiku is no longer an admin account, there is no need for me to have it as an administrative account when the Principal is merely a mouse-click away. Also, justifying the reason for these three being chosen, consider that one is in Australasia, another in Europe, the last in North America. The continental placings of these three with myself pretty much ensures a staff member is on the board at all times.
Moderating Positions
Dain Gavyns: I can imagine a number of you puzzled at my choice, so let me simplify. In the last few weeks Ryan and I have discussed the possibility of this occurring, and in fairness to him I explained that the only chance he would have of being considered was for his activity on the board to improve. He was one of the last team of mods we had on the old board before his absence, and I personally know that his ability is more than suitable for the position.
Leon Loire: I doubt any explanation is needed. John is by far the most long-winded person on the site, able to write a bio that takes up three-four FULL sized posts. He's also knowledgable with the rules and regulations of the site to a crazy level and has been moderator for XIN for longer than some of the other nominees have been on the site..
Kyukaku: One of the more difficult ones to decide, because whilst I was being told in nomination posts about his admining skills on Evalise, nobody thought to elaborate on it. I have never RPed on Evalise, so I had no reference to back up those claims made. However, I kept into account the fact that in the short space of time he has been on the site he has proven himself an exceptional player, fitting in with the system and rapidly becoming one of the more respected site members despite the fact he's been around for such a short time.
Kei: Again, a difficult decision to make here. Whilst with Tyler I had to consider his newness, with Manuel I had to consider the fact that, like before, he may not be active much. However, once again I spoke to him about this over the last week or so and explained the situation. During that time he has made several attempts to rally together members for a large, board-wide storyline, has come to me with several of those ideas explained in detail (some of which may well pop up sooner or later), and despite his somewhat infrequent posting, is present on the site considerably more often than some might think, even if just lurking. This guy's been around longer than most of us, me included, he knows the way things are done as well as anyone could.
Kokaku: The sole most difficult choice to make here, and the one I can see creating trouble for me. However, I will provide my justification regardless. All of the other moderators are located in North America, and firstly I felt I needed to consider one of them being in Europe. Secondly, in terms of seniority over those who are left, he has been here the longest and has had the most exposure to the site members and staff positions.
Now, to justify the choices on the list I didn't pick....
Kvist: First and foremost, I feel that before anyone starts quoting Kurtz's remarks on this I will get my own in. I changed this because whilst Emil was chosen on the last site, and consequently on this site, in the end I had to consider it based on the candidates I felt were most suitable for the position. Don't get me wrong by any means, he's a good moderator, I just believe that the people I chose are more suitable.
Ran Ling: I had considered that the site could use a change in the testosterone being thrown around, but when I considered it further I took into account something else. A lot of the time, staff members are called into play to deal with fights that need judging or IC disputes. I've not really seen much in terms of combat RP from her, so I have to question her ability to judge a complicated series of fight posts...
Pain Killer: Considered extensively, but in the long run I simply chose the more experienced people I felt would be suitable for the position...There's really nothing else to it. No other faults I considered, just a case of experience.
Odin: The same reasons I applied to Pain Killer, but I also took into account that Odin is usually absent for a few days at a time for tournaments and the like, sometimes for much longer. Whilst this is normally not a problem in any case, there were other candidates who did not have such responsibilities. Again, highly considered but I stand by my choice.
Well, I suppose I'll open up the floor for comments and questions. Please note that you're quite welcome to disagree with my choices, but the first person to get sharp and try to childishly insult me or my decisions will be dealt with harshly. Constructive remarks are welcome.
Liam.
