I figure, since we don't have one of these threads here yet........
Tada!
Post your favourite magna/anime here, your reasons for liking them,
(and if not illegal, ways to get them. i.e. No liscensed anime/manga torrents/links).*Reviews a quick summary are a plus, if you feel like typing them out.
Favourites
Manga: Death Note, School Rumble, One Piece, Bleach, Naruto
Death Note: It's about Yagami Light, a high school student who finds the a special notebook called a "Death Note". It has the ability to kill whoever's name is written in there, given you know the person's real name and have their face in your mind while writing their real name down. Light uses it to cleanse the world of criminals, and ends up confronting L, a renowned detective bent on stopping Light's version of "Absolute Justice"
A much darker, thought provoking manga then a lot of the stuff you see out there, Death Note is a finished series. The manga plays out like a giant chess match, except it's very interesting in how it plays out. Recommended for people who want to think, or enjoy darker works.
School Rumble: Starts off with the main character, Tsukamoto Tenma, 2nd year high school student, attempting to write a love letter to the boy she loves. The boy, Karasuma, is set to transfer the next day, much to the horror of Tenma. Her efforts end in failure, mainly because she forgets to put her name on the letter. Also, Tenma has someone who loves her, a delinquent by the name of Harima Kenji.
While it starts off as your typical romantic comedy this quickly changes. Currently ongoing, and quite funny, as well as a LOT crazier then most that are in the genre. All makes for quite a funny and worthwhile manga to read. If you wanted to, you could pick up pretty much any chapter, read it without much clue as to the storyline, and still get a good laugh
One Piece, Naruto, Bleach are ones which I'm sure many people are familiar with, so for now, I'll be leaving them as is.
Anime: -to be added later-
A few good places to look for manga are probably stoptazmo.com and mangaupdates.com, with the latter being a collection of links while the former has them available for direct download (both are free!)

Hmmmm... Let me see... I'll do Anime now, and Manga after I've had time to think about it. Anime: BleachIchigo Kurosak is a seemingly regular Japanese student who lives with his father and two sisters. He attends school and helps out at the family hospital from time to time, and has a thing for beating up punks and helping his friends outa trouble. But he's not quite as normal as he seems. He's been seeing ghosts since he was just a little kid. Enter Death God Rukia Kuchiki, who while tracking an evil spirit known as a Hollow encounters the boy, and is surprised to find that he can see her. Arguments ensue, but when it all comes down to the wire, Itchigo fights to protect his family from the Hollow, and with the help of Rukia, becomes a temporary substitute Death God. Serial Experiments Lain (Licensed by Pioneer Entertainment USA & Madman AUS) Are you real? Are your parents real? Are your friends real? Is anything real? What does it mean to be real? And what happens when your life is turned upside down by these questions when you receive an email from a girl who committed suicide only days before? Welcome to the world of Lain. A 13 year old school girl who starts to find that not everything is the way it seems when she first gets a new navi and hooks up into the wired. Just because something is tangible, has a touch or even a smell... That doesn't mean it's real... Neon Genesis Evangelion (Licensed by ADV Films USA & Madman AUS) When gigantic beings known as Angels begin their assaults on Tokyo-3, the hidden government organization NERV steps in to take control of the situation. They dispatch their secret weapon codenamed EVANGELION. Piloted by Commander Ikari's estranged son Shinji and the two other chosen children Asuka Langley Soryu & Rei Ayanami, the human race seems to finally have a chance to fight back against these seemingly unbeatable foes. Or do they? Has god really forsaken mankind? Or is this just the next step in human evolution?

Kai, we can see you're quite fond of Death Note.
*cough* sig-avatar *cough*
Anyways.
Manga: (Note that there will be :: SPOILERS :: here to those who have not read the manga up-to-date) Naruto, Prince of Tennis, Bleach, Death Note, Hajime no Ippo, Hunter X Hunter
Naruto is a lot better in the manga than in the anime, just in my opinion. The fillers are really destroying the plot and the extension of the filler arc is getting on my nerves.
Prince of Tennis, albeit is repetitive, is addicting for some reason. I seem to enjoy the drama of watching this freshman guy take down all of the giants and third-years.
Bleach is good. I like how Ichigo can actually lose (to Grimmjaw) instead of dominating without a sweat. Main characters being able to win all the time is getting cliche.
Death Note was really good. Well, at least at the beginning. It was a new genre that fascinated me, but near the end I feel that the writer ran out of ideas and wanted to end it quickly. Furthurmore, if it had continued, the only way would be to add another genius in there to combat with which would be repetitive. I feel the series should have stopped early, but I do like that the main character dies in the end.
Hajime no Ippo is great. Simply, it's great. I still see a long future going along for this. Although there are goals in the long run, there are always those immediate fights that Ippo has to train for and stuff, each time getting harder while he goes up to the world stage.
Hunter X Hunter has a unique storyline. In even more ways than Bleach, the main characters are shown weak in comparison to the entire stage. Although recently the art has been really bad and Togashi, the author, has put the series on pause at the most dramatic part (because he is sick or something), I feel this manga is going to be pretty damn awesome.
Anime, I feel, sucks compared to the manga. Sorry guys. I think the fillers are getting to me.

My Manga picks are in. Death NoteYagami Raito is a high school student of the highest caliber. He always gets the top grades in school, and he doesn't even seem to try. Bored of everything, he seems a very dull person... Untill one day when he finds a black book, and with it a strange looking Death God who tells him that the book is called the Death Note. With the power to kill anyone anywhere, just by writing their name in the book and picturing their face, Raito feels the power and takes the matter of law and order into his own hands. If he is to save the world from itself, he will have to use his all his cunning and genius to outwit the authorities and the mysterious L as he kills off all of the worlds criminals, one by one with the power of the Death Note. It's a battle of wits between Raito's alter ego Kira, and the crime solving mastermind L. Who will come out on top? Who is right and who is wrong? Are the actions of Kira the death dealer truly as noble as he claims? Only time will tell. And history will remember the victor. GantzWhat is the Gantz? What is it's purpose? Kei Kurono doesn't know yet, but right now, he's far more concerned with the fact that he should be dead. After being run over by a train, Kei finds himself in a room full of strangers and a large black ball. Everyone claims to be dead, and soon the ball opens, telling them all to hunt down and kill a strange alien. And so the game begins... Who will survive this bloody fight, and who will be killed for the second time? All they know, is that whatever the Gantz is, it's willing to risk their lives at every turn. X (Licensed by ? USA & Madman AUS) The end of days are coming, and the fate of the world will be decided by a battle between the two sides of destiny. The Dragons of the Earth, who wish to purge the planet of it's cancer, known as humanity. And the Dragons of the Heavens, who strive to protect us. 12 chosen ones gather together in Tokyo, each taking their sides. And so they wait for the one known as Kamui to appear, and to chose who he shall fight for. And who he shall annihilate. The Dreamseer Princess Hinoto foretells the coming of Kamui, while her sister Kanoe awaits his arrival, preparing to take his power. But what of Kamui? He is a high school student, who's physic powers are so great that even his name means Gods Power. But he wants nothing to do with the end of the world. However, destiny will not give him up without a fight.

However my favorite of all time has to remain Gunsmith Cats. Aww yeah I totally forgot about them. The sexy femmine duo with batitude and crazy car skills. The manga is better, if only because the anime only lasted 3 OVA's. And Jellar's right. Once that Spoiler Tag's been placed, anything that upsets the reader is their own damn fault. Though it probably would have been a good idea to make the tag a bit more defined for the speed reading class. - - - SPOILERS - - - etc.

XXX holicStory & Art: CLAMP I haven’t watched the anime, but according to my dad who recently got converted to anime-ism, this was that did the trick. It’s CLAMP. What more needs to be said? Skipping over the praise for its characters and artwork, I’m going to outright say that although this manga crosses over to “Tsubasa ~Reservoir Chronicles~,” I’m more likely going to grab this series off the shelf if I was presented the both of them at the same time. If you’ve been wondering why CLAMP’s character design has been looking “anorexic” as of late, this is why. According to their panel at Anime EXPO ’07 Long Beach, they were influenced by an old Japanese art style that you can see centralized around Yuko. The surreal, dreamlike, and philosophical aspects won me over and Watanuki’s progression as a character definitely earned him a place on my Top 3 characters in that series. Gotta love those moments where Yuko enlightens us as to the importance of the self… Gotta love existentialism… Eyeshield 21Story: Riichiro Inagaki Art: Yusuke Murata I haven’t watched the anime yet, but I’m practically obsessed with this sports manga ever since I read its first chapter in Shonen Jump. I will say so now that when I began reading this, I didn’t know a THING about American football, so you can say that this testimony is like how I can critique art but can’t PhotoShop to save my life. “Eyeshield 21” is hilarious on so many different levels. I can’t say much more than that since you’d have to see it to believe it. The artwork is so thorough and detailed that it’s in a class of its own, and doesn’t look repetitive after a while like most manga you see. The action sequences are so… SHINEY. AND FLOOSHY. The characters are all so unique in design, personality, and development that I can’t help but literally jump up, cheer, and scream each time something awesome happens to them… On second thought, I even cheer for the people they’re laying the smack-down to. The cheerleaders are amusing too. Especially the cuddly one on rollerblades. Random: Unsui Agon (of the Shinryuji Nagas) is the only character I know in manga history who can wear sunglasses, sport dreadlocks, and still look like a sick, evil bastard. Panther (of the NASA Aliens; center, between Watt and Homer) is the only African American character I know whose appearance and personality isn’t like your typical “black person” stereotype.

This thread looks fun...
Anime: Fooly Cooly or FLCL:
Fooly Cooly is a coming-of-age story of a twelve year old boy named Naota, his older brother is in America playing baseball and Naota is currently going out with his brother's ex-girlfriend Mamimmi. One day Naota is run over by a strange woman who hits Naota in the head with a bass. Ever since strange things have been coming out of his head like a robot with a TV for a head. They only made six episodes but it's jam-packed with a lot of symbolism and metaphors. Links to FULL Episodes on Google Video here- (LINK REMOVED)
(More to come later)

FLCL is licensed by Synch-Point in the USA and Madman in AUS. Please refrain from linking to licensed Anime and Manga as it is illegal to distribute fan subs and scanlations once the material is available in that language.
