Name: Ran Ling Xiao
Nationality: Chinese- Mandarin
Age: 18 (August 20th)
Height: 5’5”
Weight: 120 lbs
Eyes: Greyish blue
Hair: Raven shoulder-length hair
Other Information:
Personality: Ran is a sweet and caring person, always trying to be optimistic. Of course, if she takes offence to something she’ll more then likely give you a piece of her mind.
After going through hell, she’s become a little more reserved and sad, though she tries to hide it with a smile. She feels emotional pains very often, but even so she tries to push it all aside and take a look on the bright side.
She’s calm and rather quiet, but sometimes she can get a little excited.
She has a strong sense of what’s wrong and what’s right, often trying to settle things with words rather then her fists. Ran also knows when it’s time to get serious and when it’s time for fun.
Ran hates to show her sadness in front of others. Even so her eyes don’t lie and her emotions are easy to read. When she’s sad, her eyes may tear up or she’ll keep them low. Angry? She’ll glare unintentionally.
Appearance: A lithe figure but a little on the short side, however those are not rare traits for the average Asian girl such as she. Her arms have light muscles on them, not too big but big enough for a girl her size. Her legs have thick enough muscles, considering she uses her legs more often then any other part of her body. She has a amiable look to her as well.
Ran wears a white Chinese styled belly shirt underneath a red jacket and two black sleeves (Detached from the shirt) that cover half her fingers. She wears blue jeans. Her sneakers are white with red stitches.
Hobbies: Ran enjoys tai-chi. She also likes to play music and is rather good at lead guitar. Music is one of her passions and she sometimes practices the harp (But she doesn’t like it that much).

History:
[China]
Ran grew up in a large family. A family made up of her Father, mother, grandmother, six older brothers and her. Of course, being the only sister, and of course the youngest, she was often the subject of their teasing. Through that however, growing up with so many boys was turning Ran into a bit of a tomboy, and so her mother and Grandmother tried to be a feminine influence on her. They put her in dresses and styled her hair in fancy ways. Later she would come back and all would be ruined.
Wanting to be like her brothers, Ran quickly took an interest, whether it be her own or not, in martial arts. So as her father would teach her brothers, Ran quickly begged him to let her learn as well. Her father was delighted, though her mother wasn’t too keen on letting her little girl learn such things. She was already teaching Ran Tai-chi, was that not enough? Apparently not. Seeing as there was no getting through to her, Ran got her wish and learned some fighting skills.
Not knowing any better, being so young, Ran would often hit other students who made her mad. Her mother yelled at her father, telling him to look at what his teachings were doing. Her father, Fa, that night spoke to Ran about how fighting was only used for self-defence. Only if someone attacked her first. Never because she was mad and never to show off. Ran complained, but Fa told her if she ever did that again he would teach her no more.
Later, her eldest brother, who was also her ‘hero’, spoke to her about how she shouldn’t let what others do or say get to her. He would often lecture her, but through those lectures, she grew and he had made her the kind and forgiving young woman she was today.
When Ran was 16, her brother Xu Bai died of cancer at 24 years of age. This put a huge impact on the family, whom were preparing to leave China in order to go to New York. So they waited ten months before moving to Varron.
[Varron]
At Varron, on her first day, Ran was amazed to see a person named Ushanta fighting a teacher. Though she never spoke to the student, there she met a man named Katsu whom greeted her. She proceeded to speak with him, Katsu informing Ran about Varron Academy and what it was like. After a while, a boy named Naruto (Whom later changed to Seta) came in and greeted her as well. Naruto seemed more then happy to show Ran around the premises and so she followed him gladly.
She, Naruto and Katsu wound up on the school roof where they encountered a woman named Pan, Ran’s cousin. After this chanced meeting, the group left the school grounds to go to do a bit of shopping. That very night Naruto spoke of his feelings towards Ran, whom replied that she didn’t know her feelings towards him just yet.
Not too long later, Pan and Ran were called upon by Katsu and a man named Raphael for a battle. The match ended up in a draw and Raphael disappeared. Ran later found he was at the hospital and went to visit him, seeing as she was at fault as to why he was here. There Raphael kissed her, shocking the poor girl and sending her back, falling off her chair. Again Ran was forced to say that it was too quick and she couldn’t speak her feelings to him.
Ran ended up meeting many other students, many who seemed to fall for her almost immediately, which sort of made her uncomfortable. Though she couldn’t really do anything about it. Among them was Jahova, whom seemed to have a philosophical air to him. He showed her many beautiful spots in the woods and Ran grew to like him like a good friend. However, there were many ups and downs with the emotional man. When it had been a while they’d not seen each other, he would grow angry with her and yell. This happened at least three times. All of which had left her rather upset.
Ran also met two relatively new people. One girl was named Star and the boy was Pine. She had given Star quite a fright at first, Ran growing to know Star as a shy girl, however later, she seemed to be always fantasizing about boys and lashing out at people who got her mad. Sadly, she had no actual fighting skills and she had met her match when she attacked a man named Masahiro. After lecturing Star about not attacking random people, Ran got to know Masahiro a bit, Naruto popping it all of a sudden then. He and Masahiro did not get along well at all, and when Masahiro offered for he and Ran do go take a ride, Ran was delighted to go with this new friend. However Naruto reacted in a jealous fashion and he and Ran had a small quarrel.
At Masahiro’s house, he let Ran choose which car they would ride in, and Naruto made another appearance, a truly dramatic apology along with some flowers. Ran accepted it and left him to go on his merry way. When she finally chose a car, she was in for the ride of her life! Along the mountains Masahiro ended up racing another car, doing rather dangerous turns which Ran could only stare in shock at. The ride back down was smoother and it ended off with small talk at a cafe.
The meeting of Sabin and Donar would have a huge impact on her life, however. She and Pan befriended the two, Ran having met them both before. It seemed Sabin and Donar were in a bit of a competition for Pan, which Ran took amusement in. The group went off to a Chinese restaurant and that’s when Pan was attacked. This led them to outside where they faced the large man. Pan killed him with her hook and when the cops arrived, Sabin took all the blame and was sent to jail. He wasn’t the same after coming back out…
The trio then went to Pan’s house, where Donar seemed to change. Ran was locked out of the room where she could hear Pan and Donar. The next day she was told that it hadn’t been Donar’s fault and some other person named Kvist did it. Ran was too tired to argue and then they left it at that.
With Donar’s change to Kvist, it seemed that Ran was in for many hardships. In order to erase his former friends, Kvist planned for her friend Bruce to attack her and in her desperation to keep Bruce safe and act as though he had done his job (Neither wanted to attack) Ran bruised and cut herself up. Bruce then stabbed himself and both were down. Naruto came along and found them, bringing them both to the hospital.
As though Ran’s naivety couldn’t get much worst, it did. A message was left for her at the office to meet with Bruce so they could talk, and instead, there was Kvist, waiting for her so he could get the job done himself. So after trying her hardest to defend herself (though the pain in her arms and legs were still very much there) Ran fell and had three broken limbs. Her jaw was one of them.
At the hospital, she was visited by many, which brought joy to her heart. Though she couldn’t speak, she used a board to write down what she wanted to say. Jahova, Pan, Naruto were among some who visited. Jahova and Naruto did not get along and argued as to who should leave first and how Jahova didn’t trust Naruto there. Naruto left and soon so did Jahova. Naruto then snuck back in and kept an eye out for Ran. Next morning Ran could leave, though Naruto was acting strange. This supposed ‘second personality’ (Seta) was taking over him (she had seen it before) and the only way to get Naruto back was to kiss him. Ran didn’t love Naruto, but in her desperation to help, was about to do so. Seta however grabbed her by the chin, puckered up and kissed her, before leaving control back to Naruto who believed Ran kissed him because of her returned feelings towards him. It wasn’t so and so Jahova and Keth (another of Ran’s friends) told him. Naruto was so heartbroken he left and spoke of suicide. Ran was brought back home then. She and Naruto never spoke to each other the same way again.
After recovering, Ran went to the beach where she found her childhood friend Xian there. The two met up with Dain (whom Ran had met before) and soon were joined by Spike, Setsuna (Xian’s boyfriend at the time) and Melysa. They all had a blast, Xian with Setsuna, Mel cuddling with Spike for warmth and Ran and Dain having a swimming race to determine where the ‘relationship’ (Mel had called Dain Ran’s “man”) would go. After the race though, which Ran lost, it seemed the two had forgotten the wager and it was never answered. It had been all fun and games. Ran Ling Xiao never would of imagined that Dain would have a higher importance in her life later on.
When prom came around, Ran was Dain’s date. It was going well until Kvist appeared, accompanied by Pan as his date. Ran was outraged, but was able to just let go and go through with the night. After the prom, she and Dain went to a diner. Maybe this was going to be happier? It was. Until the news came on and spoke of Varron Plaza No. 7. Apparently, Dain’s friends were mingled into it and he left in a hurry, telling Ran to go home because of the danger. Ran watched him leave and watched the news for a little bit before calling a cab. Instead of going home hoever, she went to the hospital, to check if no one she knew was in trouble and to see if Dain and his friends would show up. They did in the end, and she, Dain and a girl named Kira waited for about a week in the hospital until they were allowed to see Leon. Inside the room, the group met up with a man named Maverick and a girl named Sakura. Ran wasn’t too sure what happened next. Some man came in and took Leon away. Ran didn’t know what happened after…
Returning home one night, Ran was surprised to find her mother and brother missing. She supposed they went off to a close relative’s place for the night, however another encounter with Kvist changed all that. He had taken her mother and brother captive, and Ran would need to do what she was told in order to keep them alive. One was to tell Jahova to keep Kazuki away from him and the other was to tell Dain what had happened, though as a lie (By this time ran had left home filled with shame). Of course meanwhile Ran was writing the truth on paper to Dain, as Kvist was listening in on a microphone. After that was done, Dain told Ran he knew of how she was living around places, on the streets more or less lately. He offered for her to stay with him as long as she wanted. Ran accepted the generous offer and had stayed in the guest-room of Dain’s apartment ever since.
Fighting Style: Ran attacks as she sees fit, her reactions based on instinct more then thought through. Though this has worked for her so far, it probably isn’t the best thing for her either.
She uses her palms whenever her arms are in need and her legs are a big part of her fighting. Ran relies on dodging more then blocking, because she found that blocking hits didn’t seem to help her at all. Of course, when she needs to, she’ll block an attack, however she avoids it when possible and would rather dodge.
Strengths: Ran is pretty flexible and that leaves her to more fighting options. With the majority of her muscles being in her legs, not too thick however, she’s a fast small girl and she’s stronger with her kicks (even though she avoids kicking seeing as they are hard to perform successfully).
With her small size, against a bigger much taller opponent she may be harder to hit. Bigger opponents probably won’t move as quickly and that’s something Ran likes.
She can throw a pretty good palm strike, though more then one hit is required in order to do any damage at all.
Weakness: Ran can also be outmatched by bigger opponents if she can’t do any damage on them. Her hits aren’t anything to be awed about, and she is most vulnerable in she is on the ground. The small girl cannot compete with a larger person’s body weight.
Ran is also a little frail and so she isn’t capable of withstanding many hits before getting tired out very quickly. Also, she can get tired rather quickly and that can cause her to slow down tremendously.
Ran is also a little weak-minded. Find something that causes an emotional stir in her and she will be far less focused and blinded by her emotions.
