This is in honor of all soldiers, especially the ones from this board, who are out there doing their jobs.
Can't really put this into proper words, but this isn't to glorify war... But to give gratitude to those who are willing to fight for what they believe is right.
And eh... Since this is a controversial topic... ::pulls out an umbrella::
Survivor
They say this is the most expensive war our country is participating in
They mostly mean this in dollars,
For only around three thousand of a great many more than that died
I am one of the great many more who survived
But at a cost.
I came from a country where freedom is free
And I’m fighting for a country where freedom comes with a price
I’m in a country where anyone can kill me if he wishes it.
I can’t help it if I’m generous
I can’t help it if my heart melts at the sight of a starving child
Instead of in the searing desert heat
But that handshake of thanks ticked
And my time was up.
The child was a walking, talking IED and blew up in my face
Not now, please not now!
I was blown into the next century,
Beyond the dilapidated buildings and the dirty streets
Away from the dusty roads and hazardous curbs where more IED’s awaited
Where I was… Was a better place.
Was it heaven?
No, it was the future
It was a future I was fighting for and it wasn’t mine
It was a future for everyone where everyone had a place to be free
I didn’t pay, I donated.
I gave to the cause with an arm and a leg
I don’t care if people don’t like what I’m doing
I’m fighting for myself and my family and my future!
I’m fighting for you and your family and your future!
I’m fighting for OUR future out here in a distant, foreign land!
So I saw that the lives that were lost weren’t in vain
I understand now, for I saw the future
And I know I will make it there
I’m a survivor
