Looking around the board I started thinking of things to make it... well more interesting. And the idea of teacher accounts came up. Yes I know this has been tried before on the old site with less the great results. And on 552 it bombed. But that is mostly because of the people Rping the teachers instead of there being teachers. At least in the case of 552. Personally I think that having active teachers can afford some nice RPing opportunities. Instead of everyone making up NPC teachers as need be we would have a few prominent teachers in the school who are the main ones. An example from the flash series would be Dom the Student Dean. Or Barrack even.
But the hard part would be finding dedicated RPers for the task that could keep up a teacher character as well as their normal one. Now keep in mind I don't mean that these teachers need to be in every class thread and such. The main perk for having them in my opinion would be to increase the over all Xin "feel" of the board. Yes we all know that Corporal Punishment is in the school, but this gives us a chance to really see it. It gives those "reformists" a target, people to hate and even attack. It fleshes out the school and makes it seem more real when a teacher could randomly walk in on you or something while on school grounds. We can even have good relations with the teachers depending on the personality of the said teacher character and said student. (Such as Legend and Jix) Not to mention I can only imagine the kind of things that they would cook up with the principal against us.
As for how you would choose teachers. I would suggest an application process for those interested that have proved that they can remain active even with the burden of a teacher account. On the application you could ask anything from Rping experience and why they want to make a teacher to exactly what they plan to do with the teacher if they are allowed to make one. Whatever works out for you guys.
Whether or not you guys actually decide to do this is up to you I just thought I would throw the idea out. And hey just because it hasn't worked in the past doesn't mean we can't make it work this time. Learn from what went wrong ^_^

Teachers worked fine over here....people didn't actually RPed them often though was the only problem though.
Most people loved my teacher character though, but then again he was a bit looney.
Yeah...your clearly misinformed about how things went....and we haven't actually outlawed teachers at all, just no one has one after the transfer.
Yeah, suggesting something already in place is pointless.

Yeah, suggesting something already in place is pointless. Well, THAT was constructive...>.> I asked him to put this up last night, James. At no point was he told that teachers were 'outlawed', and I'm aware that isn't the case either. I merely noted that since Hircine began there hasn't been any mention of teacher characters yet. For someone who RPed the only active teacher, I'd prefer a little more enthusiasm from you in matters like this... -_-

Oh, I didn't (IC-wise) like your teacher at all... bastard.
But even so, I think Andrew has a great point. We need to get some teachers in here, not just some NPCs that we all use.

Well some people can maybe ask and I suppose if they're good enough, be aloud that position. It does sound interesting and all. ^__^

It's not just a matter of finding someone committed enough to play a teacher, but someone smart enough. It may just be a false peice of knowledge on my part, but aren't most members of this board still in High School? With that in mind, finding someone smart enough to actually start class threads and lay down actual facts and correct solutions to whatever problem is shown can't just be placed up there by anyone.
For an example, I'll use myself. If I was to create a teacher I'd think to myself what exactly I could teach without looking like a complete and utter dipshit. Math - No. English - No. Social Studies - No. Science - No. Etc, etc. The only thing that I could teach that comes to mind is Taekwondo, and how many High Schools in San Fransisco teach Taekwondo, hell, how many in America?
Yeah. Intelligence and understanding of the subject is key. That's one of the main reasons we had so few teachers before, and it's the main reason why we have only NPC's now.

well really, I can't get much more eager for teachers. I had mine, he was awesome, and it went from there. I never actually think I said anything negative about teachers either. I think the conversation at my post was.
"Lets have people be teachers again even though it went to shit last time"
"Last time was awesome and we never stopped letting people."
Seriously, what do you want from me? Song and dance? My contract requires me to merely prance.

Exactly. Which diminishes my wish to make one. Seriously. I only need one character to lay the smackdown on disruptive students. Even if he isn't on the teachers side per-se.

We need to work out ideas regarding teachers etc. before acting... teachers can grow out to be something bigger than it was with Edward. That is no crude remark towards Edward but towards the fact that only one IC teacher will not be too much of an everlasting story thing since he is limited to NPC colleagues...

Edward had a lot of storyline impact.....I had a group of students frequently in class, sent information around to people during the gang wars, and even taught Leaf's character some moves.
Teachers don't need a large body to back them, only a good RPer to see what is there to do. Considering we actually have pillars and a principle now, we don't need an incredibly large group.

I was actually going to make a thread regarding my thoughts on being 'allowed' to rp a teacher but...then I saw this thread. Since it was made a year ago, I presume it was decided that teacher characters shouldn't be allowed afterall?
My thoughts. I personally would love to roleplay a teacher, since an adult character would be a nice contrast to hormonal teenager. But also because there's a lot of scope storywise. To shape the whole 'everyone will want to be a teacher' point of view, you'd really only need to keep a roster of what positions are occupied, and if certain positions really need to be filled by a PC rather than an NPC. I've seen it work on sites before where students can actually interact with a teacher instead of having to make them changeable NPCs. Plus it solves NPC teachers having different identities in threads.
If you disagree with this however, let me pose another idea. An actual teacher roster, of 'Fixed NPCs.' Like how Macmillan was the principle and everyone knew this, so why don't we all know who our teachers are? Saves having five different english teachers running around...
Though I realise not many people make in-class threads and I'm not suggesting the teachers be there to actually make such threads either. That might be cliche or just plain boring. I personally would just like the chance to explore a character who teaches at a school like Hircine or Paragon.
Just lots of passing thoughts scrambled into a very quick post ^^'

Thread necromancy, if a thread is very old(like this one, over a year) is usally not allowed, it's not bad to make a new thread. However, to answer the matter at hand, there are in fact teachers and substitute teachers, as well as a dean, but they're just not rped a lot by the people... they're not that active. I don't exactly know what the take on teachers is atm. but as far as I can tell, a teacher is someone who has IC power. Therefore we only allow rp-ers who have been roleplaying here for some time and have shown their worth(skill, activety) the privelege to be a teacher. Applying for one can always be done, you probably should pm the admin, but as I said, normally you have to have been around for some time to be allowed a teacher.

Yeah, necromancy is bad. *Growls and grunts*
In all honesty, if you're interested in making a teacher character, just go straight to the Admin about it. You may still be new here, but you appear legit to me, and we could use a good teacher around here, what with those who are supposed to be our teachers slacking off here and there.
But beyond that, there's no need for this thread to remain open; if someone has a question about teachers, make a new thread, or ask a staffer.
