Wow, lol Martin you should lay off the LSD.
I'm surprised not many people went to see it today, though I did have the day off. What, you people like kicking each others asses but you can't watch a decent destruction of NYC movie.
For shame, for shame. lol, but seriously, Go see it, it freaking rocks.

Just saw it with my friends and my brother. It was a lot better than I first expected.
For still having the same corny plot, it really felt good. Definitely a movie you'll all enjoy.

When I saw it on IMAX the night it came out (midnight showing), the screen itself scared me before the movie started. It was my first time going into that IMAX auditorium in that multiplex, and it was really dark. You had to go up a thin, weak-looking metallic staircase to reach the seats when already in the auditorium. When I finally found seats, thats when the lights finally turned on and I was able to see. But. when I sat down and looked at the screen... holy shit. It looked like a void that you can just fall into. Since it was "bending" (picture a tv with the screen that bends out somewhat toward the middle) and the bottom half of it was dark (since when you walk in the auditorium its all darkness). The lights didn't help either. It was a pure white light scattered around the auditorium, so it was weird. So other than that, the movie did freak me out. It just takes a short train ride for me to get to Grand Central, and its just crazy seeing Manhattan get destroyed (with such amazing detail). But yeah, that's all I'm gonna write for this movie. Sorry =P

I'll judge you all I want! On another note..... Who'd win: Clovy or.... GODZILLA! I'm still waiting for the inevitable Godzilla vs Trogdor vs Reptar. Because not only was my childhood wasted in front of the TV, but that I'm extremely bored.

I went and saw it yesterday. I still have no idea what Cloverfield means though... I liked the film. It was interesting and had some cool elements to the way it was told. Though, at the same time, it's not a film I can recommend to anyone. It's the kind of movie that you'll either love or you'll hate.
!!!SPOILER ALERT!!! (Hilight text to read) I missed the 'splash' in the water at the end after the "It was a good day" line. But that makes the ending a little more interesting. Also, the whole "Help Me" line after the credits that can be played backwards to say "It's still alive" far more clearly that the Help Me is kinda cool. But the creepy bit is that I actually heard "It's Still Alive" in the cinima, turned and asked my friend what they said, and he said "They just said 'Help Me'." So I don't know how I heard THAT...

Yo Nick, the whole "Cloverfield" designate is actually an inside joke of the producer, from what I've read/been told.
JJ Abrams, the producer and creator of the movie, owns a production company called Bad Robot studios. The street the company is located on is called Cloverfield.
As far as in-movie reasons, none have been given, either through the movie or the viral marketing/internet previews that were saturated through the net. If you were to ask me, though, I'd assume that if you just HAVE to have an in-movie justification, I'd think that it would be most logically named after a general or ranking military officer or whatever that headed the defense of Manhattan.

It was a very good movie, and I would reccomend it to most, but for some poeple they would probably just hate it Highlight the Black Text for question about the movie: So, with the 'Splash' at the end, did that mean that the creature DID come from the water, or what?Oh, and With Godzilla vs. Cloverfield would be a tough one, Godzilla has the muscle, but Cloverfield is a giant spider-ey thingAll in all, I'd have to say Godzilla wins in a normal fight between the two

Godzilla wins. I don't mean crappy American Godzilla, but actual Godzilla. He's got a healing factor that puts Wolverine to shame, as it's just shy of being instantaneous. Plus, he breathes radioactive fire! And he turned into a giant magnet in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla!
Fuck Cloverfield.

You're just jealous because Cloverfield attacked New York City and not a city in Canada! But... (super secret message for the Awesome people that saw the movie only!!) Highlight the following: Doesn't matter though, Adam; you Canadians will get plenty of love from Cloverfield soon enough.
After all, if Nick's right and Cloverfield did survive the Hammer Down, what's closer to a ravaged New York? Ontario, or the rest of the the States?
And think of this: if Cloverfield can survive an entire volley of American-grade bombs, hordes of tanks and plenty of crashing into buildings, what makes you think he can't hold up against stomach-acid ridden fire? Godzilla can't fight an alien! He only beat a robot because he, let's say it together, somehow became a magnet.
I rest my case. And I say, after the weekend's over, we give up on hiding the spoilers. If you haven't seen the movie by now, then you no longer deserve pity. See the movie, or be spoiled!

You've brought up an almost good point, but there's one thing you're missing.
In the course of one, ONE movie, Godzilla killed seven other monsters, and beat three more at the same time. I refuse to even think that something like Cloverfield would manage to stand up to the King of the Monsters and last for any longer than two minutes.
And for those curious, he's killed many, many aliens. Monster Zero, Gigan, Space Godzilla... the list goes on and on.

Godzilla is the shit. I'm sure he has taken on aliens before, and even then, he's way cooler. Maybe they should put the thing from cloverfield in the next Godzilla fighting game so we can prove it.

You pass me that controller, and I'll make that boy dance.
I'm not even good at fighting games and I'd kick the shit out of Godzilla!
And you made a good point Adam, but let's not forget that Godzilla comes from the same culture as Dragon Ball Z and countless, COUNTLESS other sources of entertainment that have zero realism, logic, or truth involved. Godzilla was a fantasy; the way they pulled off Cloverfield nearly made it feel as if it could really happen.
Cuz honestly, there's no chance a lizard could grow into a gigantic fire-spitting monster just because of a little radiation. But no one can rule out the chance that something from space could suddenly crash onto the Earth and attack us. We're still trying to rule out Roswell more than sixty years after it happened!
So if you gave Cloverfield as much loose realism as Godzilla, then that's one scary monster. And the fact he survived a massive wave of bombs is already unrealistic as it is.
