Dante's eyes split open. Sunlight was streaming into his hotel room. He sat up and yawned as he scratched his head. His hair always got messy in the morning, and it was always worse when it wasn't his bed.
Dante moved into Rebecca's apartment a while ago, and just got done moving all of his stuff in, when suddenly though, his parents wanted to go on a trip with him out of town, just before it was official that Dante was moving out. Dante accepted of course, what kind of person would he be if he said no? He actually went back to New York City for a while. Saw some shows in Broadway; saw the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, all of stuff he should've seen when he lived there.
He just was going back, and he was going to make up for being away from his lover so long by making out with her like there was no tomorrow. He reached inside of his pocket and fished around to call her.
Uh-oh.... Dante thought worriedly, he looked down. His cell phone wasn't in his pocket; I must've left it at Rebecca's place... Then Dante inferred, OUR place... he mentally corrected himself with a smile.

When he finally got back to the apartment complex, he ran back to his room. He even took the stairs because he would go faster on those than the elevator. He rushed so quickly he didn't even get to see the worried face of the woman at the lobby.
He smiled as he finally got to his and Rebecca's room number. He was about to knock on it, and as soon as Rebecca opened it, he would kiss her before she even got the chance to say hello. Though, as soon as he reached the door, he saw a pink peice of paper on it, with some tape.
He reached up, and grabbed the slip of paper, it had some keys attached to it, and Dante noticed that there were some tiny splotches on the paper, as if tears fell on it...
It read:
Dear Love,
I can only make this letter short because it pains me to write anymore...
Well dear, I just got a letter from my mother. She is ill, and dying. I had to go there immediately to take care of her, and I tried to call you to tell you, but apparently you left your cell phone.
Then, a sloppy smiley face was drawn, mostly because it was wet,
I'm leaving, and I hate to say it, but I don't think I'm going to be coming back. At least, not for a long, long while. My Mother really needs my help, and it's the least I can do for her.
I love you so much, and I don't want to leave, but... I have to...
I better go now; my plane is going to be leaving soon.
I love you so much,
Rebecca Eve
Dante's wide eyes skimmed over this letter repeating times, each time it was more shocking than the last, then he caught the little piece of text at the bottom,
PS. Here are the keys to the apartment, they're yours now, sexy! Then another smiley face, this one more neat.
Dante stuffed the letter in his pocket and sprinted as fast as he could down the stairs. Every flight he had to go down, he jumped instead. He panted as he reached the lobby, he ran to the girl there, he knew that she and Rebecca were freinds, and talked a lot, what about, Dante never knew...
Through deep breaths, Dante said as he approached her, "Have you... seen... Rebecca... leave lately?!!!" Then he slammed his hands down on the table in front of her.
The woman said reluctantly, "Well... I hate to say it, but she left two days ago, she told me to tell you that she was sorry, and that she loved you very much."
Dante looked down, dropped his arms as if they each weighed a ton, then said, "Thank you very much for the information..." He walked to the elevator, and lazily pressed the button to his floor. Then, when he reached his floor, he entered his room after pulling his keys out of his pocket.
After getting into his room, it was surprisingly empty, though a lot of the stuff was still here, including all of Dante's boxes and the furniture, even the TV was still here. He stuck the note from Rebecca on the fridge, then calmly plopped down on the couch.
He then sunk his hands into his face and sobbed. "I love you so much..." He looked at a picture of Rebecca on the wall and smiled, "and will always love you, no matter what..."
