Gene had rolled out of bed some 30 minutes ago, he had washed, brushed his teeth and had a close shave with his 'cut throat' razor, something his father had taught him at 15 when he'd first started shaving and something for which the young Gene was extremely grateful. His fair skin still prickled from the fresh lime he had splashed on his face before adding the soothing balm.
Now he walked the streets looking sharp and alert, his eyes concealed behind gold rimmed Ray Ban Aviators. Today he was simply dressed in a tailored white shirt the top button open revealing a plain silver chain, accompanying his italian made charcoal coloured trousers. With these were black brogues polished to a mirror like shine.
Before entering the Coffee house Gene checked his reflection just once, he offered a half smile to the young woman behind the counter as he noticed she had caught him checking himself out. This made the young woman blush which only broadened the smile on Gene's features as he entered the Coffee house.
"Good morning Rosie, the usual please."
He removed his shades and hung them from the 'V' in his open shirt, revealing his blue/brown eyes. As Rosie turned bashfully away to prepare his drink he turned his attention to a free table by the window. Sitting down he opended his small brown leather bound book and began to write. When his drink was placed down next to him he looked up to Rosie.
"Thank you very much."
He held up his index and middle finger with the note neatly folded between the two. Rosie took it and smiled sweetly.
"Thank you very much."
She offered a curtsey and poked the tip of her tongue between full red lips. Gene let out the slightest of sighs and felt himself wish once more that Rosie didn't have a girlfriend. Something she had teased Gene with on more than one occasion
As he sipped his triple espresso Gene began to flick through the pages of the book he had just been writting in. From time to time he would raise his gaze to search the few occupants of the coffee house. In little more than an hour this place would be heaving and Gene would make his way to school for his first day back.
