(This is for Valencia, but open afterwards.)
2:32am
The faded red L.E.D. lights clearly displayed the early morning time from two and a half feet away. Tai Yang groaned in annoyance as for the last three and a half hours he watched the minutes pass by. He literally counted all 212 minutes that passed by as he tried to fall asleep. This was the third night in a row that he had fallen prey to insomnia, his body making up for the late nights by sleeping during school hours. Despite his comfort and rest at school, he was still annoyed at his body for disobeying what he wanted, which was to fall asleep.
Earlier that day hadn't been too productive, he went to school, beat on a few people, slept, headed home only to intrupt another screaming match featuring his parents. Changed, headed to his after-school job - nearly fell asleep there it was so boring - then headed out for an evening workout before returning home, trying to sleep. In the end he found himself staring at the clock, missing five changes on the clock as it read thiry-seven after.
Getting up he slipped on a wife-beater, despite the fact that this was San Francisco, it was still winter, and it still got cold, especially in his parents heatless apartment. He slipped out of his closet-sized-room and headed into the slightly bigger kitchen/living room, where he opened the fridge and grabbed the carton of milk. Two swigs later and his stomach deemed itself full and he felt like he was ready to try and sleep again. Only problem is he still felt wide awake. As he stared into the darkness of the apartment his sense slowly started to peek. He was able to smell the rotting fruit in the garbage can outside in the alleyway, and hear his neighbours t.v. despite it beginning two walls and a hall away.
'Guess that's the beauty of the morning, you hear everything.'
Heading back to his room he slipped on some track pants and headed out across the hall, knocking lightly before he slipped inside. Bob, the tennent of the apartment, meagerly waved without looking from his lazy-boy, eyes fixated on the tube as he remained negligent to the time, and possibly the day.
"Hey Bob, watching more undercard fights?"
"Yeah man. You should seriously see some of these guys, they could easily go pro! Like this one guy, a local, I think he even went to your school."
"I doubt that man, my school just opened up this year."
"Well, your rival school then. Hircane or whatever."
"Oh, Hircine. Yeah, M'kay. So, who is he?"
"Take a look and see if you recognize him. He's the one in the black trunks whose about to fight."
Taking a seat on a bean-bag chair beside the lazy-boy he peered at the screen, reading the name that came up along the bottom of the recorded t.v. broadcasting.
"Reeves, huh? Never heard of him."
"I think he was only there for his senior year, was back across the country before that."
"That could explain it, seeing as I was void of social contact for the better part of eighteen months."
Bob could only chuckle, having made many jokes in the past along the lines of Tai Yang being a bad influence for the 'part-time drug dealer'. Regardless of whom was or was not a bad influence they both quieted down as the fight started. The two Light Heavyweights came out and touched gloves. Reeves being the first to throw a punch, connecting lightly with his jab. Then he started eating leg kicks, which confused Tai Yang, but before he could protest why Bob liked this fighter the twenty-something shushed him, saying:
"This is where it gets good."
As his opponent went for another leg kick Odin Reeves dipped down, scooping the leg while throwing a heavy right that struck clean with the opponent's jaw. Being forced back by the power of the punch he was thrown onto the ground, utterly controlled by Reeves as he found himself mounted with one arm blocked. Reeves could've just ended it by throwing one more right hand, completely knocking out the groggy opponent with the 4oz gloves, but instead grabbed his left arm, the one not pinned down and blocked away, and rolled over to the side, pulling his opponent ontop of him and locking him in a triangle choke. Having seen Damian Maia do the same thing days before gave him inspiration to try it out, or so he said in the press conference afterwards.
"So, what did you think?" Bob said as he started rewinding the tape, a big smile across his face.
"He's a bull, when did you tape this?"
"It was on earlier today. That's his fifth professional win since graduation. No losses so far, though he hasn't gotten the chance to break through to a bigger stage. It's hard finding out when he's going to fight next."
"He seems a bit more collected then most amatuers."
"Wanna know why?" Another smile snuck it's way across Bobs face, so eager to dish out the dirt.
"Why?"
"I heard, and this is strictly hush-hush cause it's illegal and all, but I heard he use to fight allot underground. Won quite a few tournaments, both here and back in New York or wherever he came from."
"Your kidding me. Anyway to verify this?"
"No videos that I can find. Guess his old school-mates would know, but I don't know who they'd be."
"Thanks."
Pushing off the bean-bag chair Tai Yang gave Bob a pat on the shoulder, signifying their friendship as he headed back to his parents apartment, a tad bit quizicle to the question at hand. Whom did he know that went to Hircine, or had ties to any of the graduates from Hircine. All of his teachers came from detention facilities and substatute programs, not the neighbouring highschools, so they were useless. There was Hircines ex-Captain, but it wasn't like they were tight. He couldn't just find his number and call him up for a chat. He also knew the Tiger of Hircine was at Paragon, but had never once run into him. Perhaps they were on two seperate paths that would never intertwine, who knew?
Aden went to Hircine as well, but didn't seem like the type to hang out with others. Still, didn't mean he wasn't familar with who this Odin Reeves was. A possibilty to proceed with in the upcoming days. But there had to be more then just those few. Certainly a ton of students in Paragon came from Hircine, but as Bob had implie, Odin's past seemed to be a ghost.
Slipping into his room he flopped down ontop of his covers, staring at the ceiling as he tried to think who else he could go see. There had to be someone, anyone at all. Janitor? No. Counsellor? No... Did Paragon even have one? Librarian? N-... Wait. Paragon had two Librarians, a morning one and a afternoon one. The students found that weird, and rumors started to spread. What was that rumor? Something to do with the morning one... She was a... No, wrong rumor. She had attended and graduated Hircine... That was it, must've been it.
Bounding off his bed he flicked on his bedroom light and went over to backpack in the corner. After removing the pile of dirty cloths from ontop of it he removed the books from it and opened up his 'History' text, revealing first a map of the school, followed by his time tables, followed by a list of his teachers names, and then attendees that followed. Since he was suppose to be spending a great deal of the first semestair in the library he also had the librarian's names along with the rest.
'Valencia Donahue. Tomorrow I search her out. Guess that means I'll be attending school tomorrow morning.'
Wandering back around his room he flicked off the light and feel like a tree in the woods onto his floor-leveled matress, his face landing on the pillow as he closed his eyes, hoping the next few hours would fly by.
8:45am
Having caught a few hours of sleep before awakening and beginning his morning workout, Tai Yang actually felt refreshed, as well as motivated to get to school. He rushed through breakfast and showering, caught the eight o'clock bus, and made it to school before the first buzzer even rang. Heading straight to the Library he pushed through the doors, heading straight to the head desk.
"I'm looking for Valencia Donahue."
By all assumption's, the lady at the desk should've been her, but not really known for spending time in the library he found it was better to ask, rather then presume at this point.
