Name: Mathew Scott Amtrum AKA The Earth Dragon
Nationality: American
Ethnicity: Caucasian (mix of most of Europe)
Attended School: Hircine
Age: 16 - Sophomore
Weight: 200 lbs
Height: 6'0
Appearance: Mathew's light brown bangs fall down to eye level making hims constantly brushing it to the side with a fluid motion of his hand. His unkempt hair gives him a certain charm of a man that has yet to be tamed. This is only magnified by his green eyes that always seem to be alight with a fiery passion deep within. His face is almost always covered with a smile that sends the message that he saw a joke that no one else had caught on to yet and that he found it hilarious. This feature could be taken as cocky and even mean and sarcastic or it can be taken to mean that he isn't serious when he talks. Like most things it all comes down to perspective.
The only physical feature that ever really draws attention from others would be the scar on his face. A thin white scar runs down from the bottom of his right eye to the tip of his mouth. Lucky for Mathew it does not actually reach his eyeball so his eye is completely fine. He has a similar scar on his back that goes from his left shoulder to his right hip.
When it comes to clothing Mathew is one for simplicity. Normally he will wear a simple shirt of a dark color, though he favors black. This would be accompanied by loose fitting pants with a leather belt keeping it from becoming annoying by sliding down. All of this is topped off by Mathew's Earth Dragon Coat that he had claimed from Tiel. When it comes to shoes he prefers something that is sturdy but with comfortable soles. Something that he can wear for a long time. And while at first glance all of his clothing look nice and well kept on a closer inspection it would be easy to notice that his shoes tend to be scuffed and his clothing have obviously seen their fare share of trouble. Despite his love for Dark colors he doesn't really give off the vibe of someone that is depressed or emo. It is more of a matter of comfort
Eye color: Green
Hair: Mathew has brown hair that is darkest at the roots and lightens out a bit as you move to the tips. While not terribly long he has the look of someone that could use a trim, his bangs sometimes falling in to his eyes, and reaching down the back of his neck covering a brand of the Collossai Gang symbol on the back of his neck he acquired while trying to save the current gang leader Celeste from abduction.
Habits: Mathew seems to be mostly clear of bad habits. Certainly when it comes to things like smoking and drugs, though he does drink now and then, but only a single drink when he does. Still he does have some things he does without thinking. He is almost always grinning and smirking at people, even if nothing is funny, normally it is a tip off that he is plotting something. He also has a tendency to brush his bangs to the side whether or not he needs to. Finally when actually angered Mathew's tone of voice and stance changes. Instead of being more aggressive he will seem to lighten up and become more carefree. His tone of voice turning friendly and a legitimate smile on his face. This is normally a very bad sign to be seeing.
Other Information
Personality: If you were to sum Mathew up in one word it would be ambitious. Mathew is a man without guilt or remorse. Capable of doing heinous acts without so much as batting an eye, not only that but takes pride in them. Having had several run ins with the law he has been diagnosed with a Conduct Disorder, which upon him turning 18 will be changed to a diagnosis of Anti Social Personality Disorder, which is more commonly referred to as being a sociopath or psychopath.
For a long time his ambition had been without aim, concentrating only on gaining power so that he could live on his whims. Able to do what he wanted when he wanted. He spent many years like that, becoming stronger and feared back in his home state. It was finally focused by the new Headmaster, a man who gassed the whole student body of PHS #552 for his own amusement. Watching as they fought. It wasn't a love of others that drove him to change, but anger at having been forced to do anything for another person's amusement.
Now Mathew is focused, his ambition is to unite the world under his iron rule, or failing that, against him. He knows it is a lofty goal for someone so young, but in his mind it is possible if he plays his cards right.
Besides his ambition Mathew is violent for fun. Willing to do anything from giving a kid a black eye to crucifying them in the park for any insult real or imagined, or even just on a whim. The fact that he wants to make the world a better place doesn't mean he is willing to stop his own fun.
Arrogant to a fault Mathew really doesn't believe that he can fail, he honestly thinks that he is perfect. However he isn't stupid, quite the opposite, he is cunning and he knows that while he can't fail setbacks happen. Because of that he has worked to become very skilled at turning any situation to his advantage in some way, shape, or form.
Despite how deceitful Mathew is he does have his own personal honor code. The most notable is that Mathew will not lie. While he has no problem bending the truth and twisting it, he will not outright lie. He believes it sets a good example and makes it easier to deal with people. After all if he has a reputation for honesty then people will likely believe what he says, and if he makes a threat, then they will be sure to take it seriously.
When it comes to friends and relationships, it is very different for Mathew. There are people he likes and people he hates. And while he is willing to sacrifice for a friend, he is not willing to sacrifice anything important. Picking them up is fine, holding off his plans are not. Everyone exists to be used, even friends. If someone who was a close friend, like a brother to Mathew was to stand in his way Mathew wouldn't bat an eye at taking him out. In the end it always boils down to what one can do for Mathew.
In a sexual relationship it is much the same, but very heated. It is all about passion and heat. Very sexual he creates very strong and driven relationships that burn out quickly. Unwilling and unable to truly give someone his heart Mathew sees women as something to be used and manipulated like a toy. He will gladly manipulate any woman that falls in love with him, however he will not let others manipulate or use them if he can help it. He considers them his property, and the only one allowed to damage his property emotionally or physically is Mathew.
Despite all of this Mathew is not a wet towel by any means. He believes that life is to short to be unhappy, so despite his "badass" behavior it is not that uncommon to see Mathew do something silly and stupid. In the past this has included everything from streaking through the school to dressing up like Starscream from the old Transformers Cartoon for a day.
Hobbies: Mathew's major hobby is fighting and manipulating people. He doesn't do it just to reach his goals but because he can. He takes pleasure in causing pain both emotional and physical, and confusing emotions is certainly a hobby for him. However Mathew has a few other hobbies that are not as predictable, he enjoys singing, especially with the radio as well as sewing. He is also fond of cooking but has no skill at it. Last time he tried to cook anything serious he ended up making his favorite jeans in to assless jeans. Though it should be noted that even something as simple as toast can end in a fire when Mathew is the one doing it. Because of that he tends to eat out, unless he is with someone that can cook.
Extracurricular: Currently none, but he is a former Drama student as well as the Former Editor of the School Newspaper in PHS #552 "Read or Bleed". Furthermore he is the former Student Body President of both PHS #259 and PHS #42 as well as the former School Captain of PHS #552.
Important Details
History: Mathew wasn't always the way he is now; he used to be a very kind and sweet boy, one that would do what he was told and never put a toe out of line. He was the only son of a well to-do family, a blessing if you will. His Father William Amtrum served in the FBI as a field agent. Basically this meant that another man and he go off and try to close down drug rings and such but then never really found "The Big One", a bust that would get them recognition. The most they got were small little nothing rings, something that turned out to be an apartment building at most, things that you would expect of the normal police not the FBI to bust. He didn't get any big assignments and he certainly never made it high in their ranks. The most that a mediocre agent like him could hope for would be to stumble on something and make his name that way.
William had married at a young age to his high school sweetheart. She had been in his biology class and after three months of her being his partner he asked her out. Timing had never been his thing (as he asked her out while dissecting a pig) but despite that she had said yes. All through their high school years they went out, both with dreams for the future. It was fortunate for them that both of their dreams led them to the same place; that place was of course the FBI, and the day that William got accepted in to the academy was the day he asked Susan to marry him. Once again she said yes and they were husband and wife a mere two months later.
While in combat training in the academy William was in an accident that lead to a blunt testicular trauma, according to the doctors this rendered him sterile more-or-less. With this knowledge he and his young wife Susan began to talk about adoption, she had always wanted a kid of her own and this had seemed like the best option, and yet neither of them wanted to give up their career in order to be a stay-at-home parent. He still had his dreams of becoming a local legend in the bureau and Susan was also working with the FBI as a biologist in the forensics department working on things like DNA matching and the like. Don't jump to conclusions though, neither of them was as interesting as they seemed. Needless to say that when she found out that by some chance she had become pregnant both William and Susan were unprepared and unwilling to deal with it. Abortion, however, was not an option as both of them were strongly against it. In the end they decided to keep the young child and have family and sitters take care of him. Of all these people his oldest cousin on his mother’s side was his favorite.
His cousin was named Jimothy Clavish and for the most part he was a pretty friendly guy. He didn't mind hanging out with Mathew even though the boy was younger than he was. Like most kids Mathew needed some type of male role model in his life and Jimothy was it. He was Mathew’s hero and he always knew what was best. They used to talk and play outside for hours at a time. Mathew learned how to fight from fake fighting him, and later decided to use it in a more serious fashion. Again, like many young boys he began to imitate his hero in mannerism and speech; young Mathew was soon quite a diplomatic child and like Jimothy he was able to get most people to do what he wanted one way or another. However both Mathew and Jimothy still had vastly different upbringings. Jimothy was poor and had to learn to make do with what he had. He had a very strong moral base and expected others to have that same moral fiber. On the other hand Mathew was "rich" compared to him and was used to getting what he wanted, when he wanted it. While he did try to live up to the image of his hero he found himself always falling short of Jimothy’s expectations. Not only did he feel bad when he did something that wasn't always the "right" thing, he had to deal with Jimothy's holier-than-thou attitude. Oh he wouldn't yell, but his disappointment was like a knife to the young Mathew.
The largest one of these would be when Mathew was about ten years old and his mother had taken a vacation from work for the holidays. She had just finished the dessert she had been baking, a delicious pumpkin pie, which was then sitting on the counter cooling. He asked her if he could have a piece since he was hungry, and of course she said no, he would have to wait like everyone else. Well that didn't bode well for the young Mathew, and when he had the chance he stole the pie. Not just a slice but the whole pie to punish them for not giving him what he wanted. Jimothy saw this as he entered from the other side of the kitchen and watched Mathew go out the other way oblivious to his presence. So Jimothy did the "right" thing and informed Susan that Mathew had stolen and had started to eat the pie. When caught Mathew was grounded for three months and was not allowed at Thanksgiving Dinner. Not only that but his father took all of his electronic games and music and destroyed them with a baseball bat, he was not allowed to have an escape for his punishment.
He was devastated - not so much for the punishment but for the fact that his hero Jimothy had betrayed him, sold him out to his parents, his own flesh and blood. It didn't matter if Mathew had it coming or if he was in the wrong, that wasn't the point. The point was that he had been betrayed by the person that meant the most to him. His role model was nothing but a dirty backstabbing liar. All that talk of always being there for him was a load of crap and now Mathew knew it. He hated Jimothy from that day forward and like most young minds tend to do his mind twisted the event. He became even more of a victim and it had been a plot by Jimothy to get him in trouble. He had always been jealous of all the things that Mathew had because his parents made more money, always envied Mathew his material possessions. All their years of friendship had just been a ploy to stab him when his back was turned. He wanted Jimothy dead. In fact he refused to call him by Jimothy after that day but instead called him Endrin, a pesticide, something that would fit his poisonous nature. Show that he was little more than a cancer and just destroys those around him.
With the loss of his hero he began to look elsewhere for someone to look up too and began to sneak out at night and hang with the punks that did the same. They did all kinds of things out in the night. They would break in to cars and steal stereos, they would knock over mailboxes and steal cats that wandered around, they were a band of petty thugs and the leader of this group. Alexander, who was around 22 at the time Mathew was 10, was his new idol. Unlike Endrin this man was a real role model, someone worthy to look up to. He didn't take anyone's shit and if someone stood in his way he would beat their ass down. While some would call Alexander a thug or even a criminal Mathew knew that he was strong and only the strongest were fit to lead.
For three years Mathew was a part of this gang and as time passed his behavior worsened until his parents practically disowned him. Not legally, and he still lived with them, but they just became detached. They tried to act like he didn't exist and started taking to trying to beat some sense in to him since more "civilized" means seemed to do nothing. But this just made him resent his parents more then ever and bound him to his "gang." They were his true family and his only friends; they understood him and wouldn't leave him hanging like Endrin did so long ago.
It wasn't until one night when he was 13 did they "trust" him enough to take him to meet their contact. He was unaware that this contact was a drug dealer and without thinking he followed them blindly. Their meeting spot was in an old junkyard, and the spot that they had picked out was in the shadow of a large tractor and piles of scrap metal that seemed to have gleaming sharp edges in the moonlight. The contact (a very large and shady looking fellow with two other shifty looking guys) stood across from them and just as business was concluding a strange noise came from one of the guys in the "gang". He had been caught shooting up heroine by the cops the other week and in order to get let off lightly they demanded that he help them; he ended up at the meeting with a wire. Enraged the drug dealer and his men pulled out guns as did Alexander. He shoved Mathew back causing the sharp metal to slice open his back from his right hip up to his left shoulder. His head had slammed against the tractor as well and the last thing he heard was gunshots from one of the guns.
He was awoken the next morning in the hospital. Apparently the owner of the junkyard had found him in the morning. He had bandages around him covering up where the metal had sliced him as well as one on his face covering his right eye. When he fell a piece of scrap had also cut his face barely missing his actual eye. He was lucky to still have his full vision, as it turned out. During the day the cops came and asked him about the evening which he told them unable to really comprehend that his friends would be getting in trouble for this. His parents visited him as well and took him home the next day. They were more detached then ever after that and his father started to take up drinking. They had given up on him. Their "gift" was now unwanted and left to rot for all they seemed to care. He was sent to PHS # 552 in hopes to straighten him out, though these were only half hopes since they felt at this point he was a lost cause. And perhaps he was lost as shortly after his enrollment he found himself in another gang, the Reign of Blood (RoB).
Once in the Reign of Blood Mathew seemed to come in to his own. Taking on missions for the gang with pride. He had finally found a family, one that he was proud of. He was fiercely loyal, using the RoB to propel him in to power, but never dreaming of betraying them. He spent a good year in their ranks rising up to a fairly high rank, high enough to use the "Vetis Clones" without being questioned. It was with this authority that he chose to make his real move. One that would seal his name as one of the strongest people in the state.
He decided to single handedly take out one of the RoB's rival gangs, namely Equilibrium. The gang was one that preached peace and wanted people to talk out their problems, however they had no problem resorting to violence themselves. Now despite Mathew's ego he knew that there was no way he could take them all on in a fight, so what he had done instead was take advantage of an opportunity that presented itself. Tiel, the leader of this gang had just got in to a lovers quarrel with his girlfriend Irisis, news that would prove vital to Mathew's plans.
Taking on the role of sympathetic ear Mathew courted the young Irisis, taking her out to lunch so that she could continue to talk about her problems with Tiel. It was at lunch Mathew drugged the young girl, taking her to his car to subdue her and carry her away to the RoB's hideout.
News of her kiddnapping spread fast and Mathew was quick to contact Tiel, informing him that he would not only disband the gang and act as Mathew's personal vassal, but as a sign of submission he would hand over the Earth Dragon Coat. An item worn by the Legendary Earth Dragon from a gang war long ago. Boiled down it was what appeared to be a simple green duster coat, but in reality it was made using a special prototype metallic mesh that served to protect the wearer from blows as well as bullets. While not 100% effective at stopping blunt damage it proved to be very useful for stopping blades and bullets, as well as cushioning some of the blow from strikes that landed on the jacket.
Now with the Earth Dragon Coat in hand, Mathew, now dubbed the Earth Dragon was one of the most feared students in PHS #552. With Equilibrium gone RoB was once again skyrocketing in power, something that caused tension to raise with the other major power in the city. The gang known as the Collossai. It had turned in to a cold war, leaders from both gangs missing until both gangs ended up dissolving, their members scattered.
At first Mathew wasn't sure what to do now that he had no ties. He started by causing a general panic in the school. Attacking people at will. That was until the new Headmaster made himself known. Mr. Clark a man that would shape Mathew's life started his reign by calling an assembly, gassing the student body with a special gas that boosted aggression. This caused the student body to fight amongst itself while Clark and the faculty watched, wearing gas masks. To what end this was to accomplish Mathew was unsure of, but Clarke had made an enemy.
From there Mathew became much more focused, organizing people under him. Fellow Dragons, since others had done like him and taken up the name, as well as members of the general student body. The Pillars continued to protect the system, something Mathew saw as unacceptable. Declaring himself school captain Mathew continued to organize his group unopposed, even by the official school captain.
It wasn't until his large group of followers attacked the school that he was opposed, and the opposition weak, token at best. His little army swept through the school searching to hunt Clark down and bring him to mob justice. Sadly he escaped and Mathew never found him.
It was late that night when it happened. A black bag job, Mathew was taken while he slept, drugged to ensure he slept. When he awoke he was in California in front of the courtyard of a school. PHS #259. It seemed he hadn't been the only one to transfer to this school either, some by choice, others like him. He assumed it was the school board of New York, taking out the head of the rebellion so the body would fall.
Mathew thought about going back, but California presented so many new opportunities. Entering the grounds of PHS #259 Mathew quickly proved to be an Alpha dog. Taking out a few students to gain attention of the stronger fighters in the school, something he did accomplish indeed. Three of the strongest members sought him out, one was the most powerful gang leader in the school, the other was a Pillar, and the third was some kind of special Hall Police that answered only to the Headmaster. All three fighters launched their attacks at Mathew, only to be beaten and forced to retreat.
Having laughed at the pathetic resistance he encountered at the school Mathew began to plan on how to take it down like he had back in New York. He never got the chance though, his actions had been recorded by a Mr. Sean Barker. A man that ran the California State Correctional Facility for Troubled Youth. Mathew was beaten down after a brutal fight with Leon, another Dragon from New York. Barker springing on the wounded Dragon Mathew was locked away in to the Correctional Facility. Not for correction, but experimentation. The man had delusions on drugging up teenagers to create a super soldier. Mathew saw little choice but to go along with it, biding his time for his escape.
It was weeks, thankfully not weeks of being drugged, but of testing the test subjects. Fighting battle after battle of drugged up freaks. Mathew, and the rest of the inmates found a chance at freedom when the correctional facility was assaulted by fellow members from the school, as well as the faculty upon learning what had happened to the students that had been vanishing over the last couple weeks.
Once again sickened by what he saw and experienced Mathew resolved that he would change things, one way or another. That was when he hatched his plan. Gang activity. He would create a gang, using a cover of shadowy leaders that delivered cryptic messages to their members as his cover. The Reapers would do his dirty work, while he got in to politics. He would use a combination of political power and targeted gang activity to force the government to do what he wanted. It was something that would take years he knew, since he had to not only expand his gang, but grow up so people would take him serious. Outside of school and gang matters obviously. But it was a plan he hoped could work.
He went to work at once recruiting everyone he could manipulate. Never face to face, but with notes in lockers. Simple as that, notes with orders to take out this person or do that. Always signed as "The Reapers" it worked surprisingly well. And soon enough all of the Pillars were taken out through Reaper hits and Mathew was appointed Student Body President by fellow Reaper and School Captain Linda Osako. The Reaper Presence continued to grow larger and larger. When Long Beach was secured, in Mathew's opinion he filed for transfer to PHS #42 in the Avenues, a portion of outer San Fransisco.
Bringing with him several Key members of the Reapers once again they toppled the student Hierarchy, granting PHS #42 the same pillar setup as before. Mathew repeated his task as he had in Long Beach, recruiting people to join the Reapers and securing their place in the Hierarchy so that given an order by the "Reaper Council" they would be ready to do his bidding.
Now Leaving PHS #42 behind with some of the money he had acquired through his many years in gang dealings, he transferred once again in to the heart of San Fransico, with a small crappy apartment under a fake name thanks to an internet application. He was looking to build up the influence of not only himself but the Reapers. Confident that his plan would work, for every city he visited, high ranking Reapers visited other major cities as well. Soon they would be a national gang, then an international gang, and then, he would have the world right where he wanted it.
Fighting Style: Brawling - Mathew Amtrum is a brawler at heart. He likes to be up close and personal in the action. He likes to be able to grab someone and smash their head in to something. He likes to be able to snap bones and disable a fighter. Normally one to use his upper body in a fight the most, he is willing to use a kick now and then. Though mostly it is a knee attack. When he uses a kick it is normally when he is sure that the enemy is dazed and won't be able to stop it.
Mathew has no problem fighting dirty, using a roll of pennies as brass knuckles, throwing marbles on the ground, or even sand in the eyes. All of these are acceptable tactics to use in combat. Just like using anything you can find around you.
In combat Mathew tends to take hits so that he can react. Only dodging to counter an attack if they left themselves open to something. Still his favorite tactic is to take a hit without blinking, let them see how little damage they did to him as he grabs them and then unleashes his attacks.
Normally his moves are simple in nature, preferring to keep it simple and effective. However he does have a few moves that are a bit more fancy. Most notably would be one of his openers which combines a bit of break dancing and acrobatics in to his style. However this is a practiced move that he has worked on for a long time and is one of the exceptions to his move set rather then the norm.
Strengths: Mathew's biggest strength is his ability to take a hit. Due to a natural high pain tolerance and a larger build. Because of this it isn't hard to imagine that Mathew can take a few blows without even being phased. This allows him to get up close to his enemy allowing them to strike, and taking advantage of their striking position.
Weaknesses: Because Mathew is more focused on his endurance he really isn't that fast when compared to most fighters. While he doesn't move in slow motion by any means, he is not a speed demon. Another draw back is that he is not terribly flexible. He can do some moves and some bending sure, but you are not going to see Mathew bending backwards to dodge a blow, unless he is falling on his ass.
While not a physical weakness it should be noted that Mathew is extremely arrogant and has been known to take hits just to prove that he can. This kind of self destructive behavior in a fight can tip the scales against him in crucial moments if he doesn't take it to seriously.
Misc: Earth Dragon Coat (bullet proof): The Earth Dragon Coat once belonged to the legendary Earth Dragon in New York City. Having passed from hand to hand of the strongest students in PHS #552 it eventually landed in the hands of Tiel. Mathew planning to break Tiel and his gang Equilibrium kidnapped his girlfriend Irisis and as a token of surrender demanded the Earth Dragon Coat. From that day on Mathew took on the title of The Earth Dragon.
This is a dull Green Duster Coat made of a mix of cloth, leather, and a prototype metallic mesh designed to protect the wearer. Primary purpose it so protect the person that wears it from gun shots and knife strikes, it also absorbs some impact when struck.
This item is almost always worn by Mathew and is his own personal trophy of when he defeated Tiel. It has also become sort of a symbol of Mathew's, and most people can tell who he is by the coat even if they haven't seen his face yet.
