The blow to the head had been unexpected, but the popping sensation Adam felt in Kyukaku's leg was not. There was no point in holding onto the leg any longer now that the damage was done, and thus, Pain Killer would release his grip on the damaged limb the moment he felt the joint thrust out of place. Believing the fight over, Pain Killer allowed his sore body to fall backwards, landing in a seated position with his feet still flat on the ground, his right hand coming up to hold his throbbing forehead.
The sudden pain in his left knee would open Pain Killer's eyes wide, the surprise as well as the pain infuriating the larger male. Growling slightly, his right leg lashed out, kicking at the leg that had struck him, unlikely to have much of a result but occuring from his natural instinct to drive his attacker away. When Kyukaku began to slide away, Pain Killer would give no chase, opting instead to silently glare at the younger man from his seated position. However, when Kyu decided to voice his anger, he'd find his temper matched by the frustration spewing forth from the older man.
"Shut up! I gave you a chance to give up, but you're so damn stupid... I didn't mean to... Why the hell didn't you give up?"
The gloved hand that had been pressed to his forehead slid higher, his fingers grasping the hair it met there. Pain Killer knew he'd fucked up, but the worst part was, he had no idea as to how to fix it. Making Kyukaku an easier mark had been the one thing he had not wanted, but yet, here they were.
Calm down, it's not broken. He'll be up in no time.
Slowly, his hand released it's deathgrip on his hair, Adam's wide eyes narrowing back to normal. All he had to do was make sure nothing happened while the kid recovered, and everything would be fine.
"You're too damn stubborn, kid."

Kyukaku's eyes would soften up a moment, catching a real moment of concern by the self proclaimed Pain Killer. They'd quickly harden once more, Kyukaku for once fighting to retain his self-righteous anger, rather than make an attempt to release it. Hunching over while leaning agains the wall Kyukaku took deep breaths out of both exasperation and pain.
"What do you expect?"
Kyu would snap his retort back with a sharp tongue, eyeing the larger fighter through squinted eyes. He was forced to hesitate a moment, leaving Adam to ponder whatever meaning Kyukaku had as he took a deep breath again, the pain in his leg beginning to become more intense as the adrenaline began to wear off.
"There's always someone constantly at my throat. If it wasn't you, it would be your brother, or anyone that's ever been school administration. It's either my title or my life, and the two seem to always interconnect in some way or another."
Kyukaku pushed himself higher up on the wall, straightening his back against it as he brought his hands back up.
"I can't stop. I can never stop fighting. The second I do, everything falls apart. Get up, Adam. Get up!"

"Are you goddamn serious?"
The disbelief was plain on the youngest surviving Rydell's face, his confusion growing with every word Kyukaku had said. Carefully, his hands probed along the ground, searching for a safe spot to push off against in order to stand once more, but in the meantime, Adam would continue.
"There's no point in goin' on with this, you're beat. Are you really so eager to hospitalize yourself even worse? Look at you, you can't even stand without usin' the wall. I'd tear you apart."
Still sore from the ordeal the two had just put each other through, Pain Killer slowly brought himself to his feet, grunting from the exhertion. He'd never seen Kyukaku act like this, and it occured to him that with everything going on, there was no doubt a lot of pressure on his former roommate. It was this fact alone that would keep Adam talking as he brushed himself off, dislodging as many shards of glass from his clothes and hair as he could find while he did so.
"I'm not gonna, though. There's no point, I already proved what I came here to prove. If I hurt you even more, what do you think will happen? Someone'll come along, intent on collectin' that bounty, and you're not gonna be able to defend yourself. I'm not out to kill ya, kid, you should know that by now. Someone's gotta toughen you up so that you stop bein' so soft, might as well be me."

Kyukaku didn't say anything, not yet. He clenched his jaw tightly together, doing his best to ignore all pain as he focused on pushing off the wall. Pushing off with his butt, Kyukaku distanced himself about a foot off the wall. Another moment later he'd force himself to stand straight up, save for all weight pressed on his right leg.
There was no denying the truth in Adam's words. Kyukaku, though intensely profuse on proving him wrong, couldn't do anything but stand there. The sad truth was that the fight was over, and Kyukaku had lost. Adam stood up, and it was as if something had changed in the air, forcing all strength from Kyukaku as he fell back down on his bottom once again moments later. Bracing himself up with his hands behind him, Kyu gazed up at his former roommate, the rage beginning to subside with the adrenaline.
"Is that so?" Kyukaku sighed, a little less in pain with the pressure now off his dislocated knee.
"At the hospital, at least I could maybe take a break... I'm so tired, Adam. I'm tired of this place, tired of fighting. I'm in this constant uphill struggle, and no matter what I do, things always get worse. Always. I don't know why I bother anymore, honestly."

Apparently, Kyukaku was far more stressed out than Pain Killer had first assumed, something that bothered him to a degree. Usually, the kid was positive, sickeningly so in fact, and would attempt to lighten up Pain Killer's seemingly permanent foul mood. In this instance, the roles were reversed, though there was certainly no way Adam would attempt to match Kyu's usual happy-go-lucky attitude.
"You know why you bother. Things would get worse a lot faster if you weren't at least slowing it down, you have to admit that. But that's not even it, is it? There's something more."
Slowly, painfully, Adam bent his legs, squatting in place in order to bring himself closer to eye-level with his former roommate.
"You've got that... thing in you. I guess some would say it's a spark. I don't know much about it, but I've seen it before. It's that same thing that forces you to act when you think you can help someone, even people you've never met, for no reward other than the fact that you've done it. A thing like that about a person, it never changes. Even if you're sick and tired of it, sooner or later, you'll do it again."
Pain Killer would speak the words in a flat tone, almost as if he were reading a script. The lack of arrogance, however, was the way he showed concern, and was the closest thing Kyukaku would get to comforting words from the youngest surviving Rydell.

Kyukaku looked up at Adam, listening to his words. He wanted to argue, but he knew it was true. If Kyukaku didn't try and clog the gears, the machine would just move all the smoother.
As Adam lowered himself to the same eye level as him, he began to spout more wisdom than Kyukaku would have given him credit for previously. He knew the ex-captain and old roommate better than Kyukaku thought. There's this idea in psychology, where there are things everyone knows about you, things only you know about you, and certain things that only others knew about you. Adam was proving the latter, beginning to lift the stress off his shoulders with a mere few sentences.
Kyukaku sighed, letting his eyes fall to the ground as his head hung for a moment of thought.
"I guess you're right." Kyukaku said, bringing his head back up to look at Adam, before he began to grin with a side of wincing pain. "Some of us are just too dense to compromise."
Kyukaku extended his arms in front of him, pulling in his fingers like a baby wanting to be picked up. "You did this, so carry me to the hospital."
