Standard tournament fodder, you're fighting in the same location as Dain would normally host the Fighters League, but with a few small changes... - The 'ring' is an octagon, similar to UFC standards, with canvas matting on the ground to cover the stone. No padding or anything, the perimeter is an eight-foot high close-knit mesh, so no climbing the cage walls.
- There is room for spectators, so it's not exactly going to be quiet in here. Bear that in mind.
- Fights are ended by submission or knockout, otherwise it goes to the judges after the week is up.
- The entire tournament is taking place in a single evening, so no opportunities to rest up. If you're injured, you'd be best to bear in mind you're not going to be 'fine' for the next fight. Also, unless you win VERY quickly, those who progress to the semi's are going to be at least a little tired.
- Competitors will be wearing their own clothing, but restrictions mean no weapons (obviously), and nothing that could be considered 'protective' clothing, so no steel-toed boots or whatnot.
Fight hard!

Xenarius was wearing New Balance cross trainers, a pair of lightweight, gray, cotton pants, and a white t-shirt. He preferred to wear the light weight pants when sparring or fighting because it let him move a little more quickly, not much, but that extra fraction of agility could mean the difference in a devastating or glancing attack. At least thats what he told himself. Really it was more of a habit. He had always worn them when fighting. The length changed but the color and material always stayed the same. Though he would never admit it to anyone he thought they brought him good luck.
I will do better this time. Xenarius thought to himself as he walked into the building where the fights would take place. Scenes of the mockery Kyukaku made out of him last time flashed in his head. Xenarius felt he had matured as a fighter and a person since the last time he fought in a tournament. He felt he was more prepared, and that his mental readiness was just as important as his physical readiness. Walking into the center room he saw the cage, and the bleachers surrounding it. Walking around it he finally found the board where matches were posted.
"Odin, Alkaiser, Nobu..." Xenarius whispered as he moved his finger down the list.
Kyukaku... Crap He thought. Closed his eyes. Then looked again to make sure it said Kyukaku vs. Xenarius. In the first round? Really? He thought walking over to sit on a bleacher and wait for the time to come for the matches to start. People started to slowly start trickling in it was still about an hour before start time.
Slowly a smile came to Xenarius' face. The irony of facing Kyu in the first round, and not being worried about the fight with the man who beat him handily the last time they fought, was enough that he had to smile. Whatever might come in the next few hours. He was ready, and he knew Kyu would be too.

(OOC: Yeah, that's what you get for leaving me out of the tournament. Having to completely redo everything. Hope you learned your lesson.)
As the school year came and went, it would leave way for new villains, and for new heroes. If Kyukaku wanted to be the latter to stop the former, he would need to be at the top of his game.
Of course, the world was nearly as black and white as Kyukaku would have liked. However, that didn't deny that the gray area at Hircine High could get very dark sometimes. As such, Kyukaku had entered the tournament, intent on scraping the rest of the rust off his game since he got out of the hospital. Of course, for Kyu the hospital was nothing new, but a set of cracked ribs was. Such was the price of protecting those students from the Watcher's Hornet's Nests. The reward? A pat on the back and a shot of morphine from a hospital bed. Ah, the sweet life.
He showed up in his black and white Etnies shoes, faded old jeans, and white and blue track jacket sporting Captain America on the back. It wasn't his typical fighting attire, but in order to get a good measurement of how he would do back in school situations, he needed to even out the attire. Regardless, Kyukaku never wore anything he couldn't fight in. If he couldn't fight, he wasn't comfortable.
In addition, Kyukaku brought his 4 ounce red fingerless sparring gloves. He'd wear them for the first match at least, preventing from busting up his opponent's face as much as possible. Showing up roughly 20 minutes before his match, Kyukaku checked his opponent's name, recognizing it. He knew he had fought the guy, and that he hadn't been half bad. He believed it was in the last tournament he had participated in, the one he had won the title in. Or maybe it was before that. Regardless, the boy had some skill, but Kyukaku had made relatively short work of him. All in all, this would be a good gauge of improvement for both of them.
When the time came Kyukaku would step into the ring, watching Xenarius as he did the same. Kyu was relatively relaxed, as if he remembered correctly Xenarius was a good guy, and full of sportsmanship. Kyukaku didn't feel he needed to be on immediate guard before his opponent would set himself. Slipping on his gloves and tighting them around his wrists, Kyukaku tilted his neck left and right before stepping forward with his left foot, holding his left fist out for a fist bump for good faith. Whether Xenarius took it or not, Kyukaku would then immediately slip to his usual loose karate stance. Left foot forward, both hands in half fists with his left hand lower than the right, which rested right below his jaw.
"Whenever you're ready. Show me what you've learned."

The crowd got progressively louder as fight time approached. Once the stands are about 3/4ths full Xenarius gets up and starts to bounce around to get the blood flowing, throwing a few shadow jabs and kicks to make sure he is loose. The crowd around him creates a little room to make sure they won't get hit on accident and he hears murmured conversations about being the unlucky sap fighting kyukaku... and a few talking about seeing him fight last time. None really seeming to think he had much of a chance, and he couldn't really blame them, but he was prepared to prove them wrong.
Eventually he saw Kyu enter the building and walk around to one side of the cage. Must be getting close to starting time. Xenarius thinks as he approach my entrance to the cage. I wonder if Kyu has changed his fighting style much, and if he remembers how I fought last time... if he expects me to fight the same I may be able to surprise him. He thought as he walked into the ring. "Well here goes nothing," he said quitely to himself.
Seeing Kyu put out his left fist Xenarius reached his left fist out as well and bumped it against Kyu's. Taking a few steps back Xenarius lowered into a defensive stance, like the old one he used with a few changes... His left foot was staggered back from his right foot about a yard. His left arm hung straight down until bent at the elbow with his palm facing the sky and his fingers half closed into a fist and his right hand raised about even with his jaw line facing to the left also in a half fist.
"I am ready whenever you are. It is rather ironic that you and I are to fight again so early on in this tournament." He said to Kyu as he waited for the first strike to come.

It seemed Xenarius would pass on Kyukaku's offer of letting him have the first attack. Kyu would have preferred to be defensive, bu no matter, Kyukaku was just as capable to go on the offensive. He gave Xenarius a nod in reply to his comment, allowing his opponent to fully set himself before he would blast forward at him.
Kyukaku would approach in a clockwise arc, moving towards Xenarius' front right side. After roughly half the distance was closed, Kyu would burst into a short sprint, rapidly decreasing the distance and building momentum. Taking an off step with his right foot, Kyukaku would step in front of Xenarius, placing his body diagnal with Xenarius' as his left foot swung around in a low soccer style round kick. The base of Kyu's shin would collide just below Xenarius' knee, both hurting and sweeping his leg out if connected.

As Kyu broke to a sprint Xenarius would take two steps towards him to meet him. First with his left foot then with his right. As he planted his right foot he would jab his right hand out towards kyu's jaw, while he did this he would raise his left hand about half way up his chest into a more defensive place to be able to defend in case of a counter attack.
Lets see how well he thinks he remembers my fighting style. Xenarius thought as he did this move. He was pleased with the way this had started, and quickly realizing just how much he was ready for this tournament. A small smile came to his face.

Despite having a very, very good memory, Kyukaku didn't presume to pre-empt his opponents. He never has. Unlike most, Kyukaku chose not to study his opponents styles before a fight, as he felt it was a bad habit. It may help you in an organized sport fight, but in real situations it didn't seem too logical. Of course, Kyukaku could get in the habit of expecting certain things from people he had fought on several occasions, such as Pain Killer, but with one short lived battle against Xenarius, Kyukaku wouldn't be caught off guard. Instead, Xenarius would be baited.
A small smile came to Kyu's face as Xenarius took a step forward, an improvised move already beginnin to flow through Kyukaku. The left leg would still swing out, though instead of following through it would hit the leg and plant right next to it. The move wouldn't hurt Xenarius in itself, but it would give Kyukaku the positioning. As Kyukaku turned his upperbody with the kicks motion, his left arm would snake around Xenarius' right forearm.
Kyukaku's arm would hook around Xenarius' arm, redirecting his arm to the inside as Kyukaku would pivot on his planted left foot, swinging his right leg around to spin his body 180 degrees. As he'd turn with the hooked arm, Xenarius' elbow would be pinned against Kyu's side, the extension used in the punch causing a temporary arm bar of sorts, putting pressure on joint. At the same time, The spin would help Kyu bring his right elbow around, cracking Xenarius in the back of the head. It would be a split second move, all in a continuous motion. There wouldn't be much Xenarius could do, as he just commited his weight forward in the steps.
If all went as Kyu thought it would, He would continue his forward momentum by releasing Xenarius at the impact time of the elbow, pushing Xenarius forward as Kyukaku would turn around, effectively switching positions with his opponent.

Seeing Kyu's arm reach for his Xenarius would just keep bringing his left arm up and across, and attempt to grab Kyu's left wrist. If this was successful he would sweep his right foot in an arc back around his left foot so that he would be standing perpendicular to Kyu with Kyu's left arm still in his left hand. Then he would attempt to knee kyu in the stomach with his right leg.
If all of this was successful Xenarius would use his free right hand and snap it down on kyu's neck while he was slightly bent over from the knee. The hope would be that he could knock Kyu off balance and daze him at the same time so he could then pull Kyu down to the mat with a jerk on Kyu's left arm.

It was impressive that Xenarius would be able to react to Kyukaku's built momentum, especially since he was in the process of jabbing out milliseconds earlier. Kyukaku didn't know how he was capable of such a thing, but in the end it wouldn't matter, as Xenarius' new motions would make things even worse for the fighter.
Even if Xenarius could somehow grab Kyukaku's wrist after hooking his arm around Xenarius', it would mean he would have to grab underneath his own arm, taking even more time as Kyu would continue his spin. Kyukaku's elbow would already connect by this point and unbeknowest to Kyu, would cause him to stumble even more, as Xenarius had momentarily lifted his foot in a sweep that would come too late.
However, nothing else would have changed from Kyu's original move except for one thing. By gripping Kyukaku's wrist, Xenarius would end up keeping Kyukaku from being able to slip his arm out following the elbow. By tieing their arms up, Xenarius' arm would also be trapped by the arm of Kyukaku's that he had trapped. Given Xenarius' balance being momentarily off from his attempted sweep and the force from Kyu's elbow, Xenariu's would move towards his own right as Kyukaku would continue his 180 degree spin. The end result, however, would not be a clean break between the two fighters, but it would be a painful break of Xenarius' elbow in the same way as an armbar pulled too far.

Based on post quality and technique, Kyu will win. A close second for best fight this round against Magnus vs. Odin, and very well played by both fighters. I'm also pleased to say I can take back my remarks on Xenarius not being too active for this round, and make an honest apology for doubting ya.
