The wind was low today, but the sky was dark, cloudy, and overcast. Charlotte sat upon the bench, reading casually, flicking the page with her finger as she absorbed the words, but never really focusing on them, as always. Ever since coming to Hircine, she had learned to read without ever really reading; always focusing more on what was going on around her, covertly.
She sat upon the bleachers where she had first been ousted by a group of smokers, only to return once Tiao had chased them off. It had been her first time, since arriving at the school, to socialize with anyone, and out of all people, it had to be a pillar. Of course, she had grown a slight attachment to him, though she wasn't sure how deep that attachement ran, not bothering to give it that much thought beyond the fact.
But here she was, a small part of her hoping for that same socialization by coming back to the same spot on the bleachers, as she did nearly every day for lunch, only to find them deviod of life - empty. Not even White Shirt and his gang of smokers even tried to look her in the eyes anymore, probably from the scare Tiao had given them and the kick to the crotch she had given White Shirt during the brawl a few days ago. It was for the best, of course, though she knew White Shirt wouldn't leave her alone forever. He was persistant, and eager to leave his mark.
So Charlotte kept one eye on her surroundings as she read, gazing straight through the words and into her own mind. There was the danger of socialization. You live so long inside yourself that when you finally open up, it starts to hurt, and your introversion has become so much a part of who you are that you have to make an effort just to keep it at bay. But as time wears on, you peel it off, layer by layer, piece by piece, and the more you break off, the more you start thinking to yourself, "This doesn't hurt so much."
Pretty soon, you start believing that, and when it all ends is when it really all starts to hurt. Because it isn't the assholes or the bigots or the jerks who just don't accept you that really hurt, it's the feeling of when it all ends that pains the most. Being alone, losing that little spark you started to feel. And then the intorversion starts again.
Charlotte jolted herself back to reality, ushering away such dark thoughts as she noted a figure approaching, someone she didn't recognise. She cleared her throat, flicking the page casually, one leg crossed over ther other, her book propped up in her lap as she reclined against the bleachers.
"Can I help you?" She remarked off-handedly, knowing immediately by the angle to which the other student was approaching of his intent: either he wanted to talk, or he just wanted to sit beside her.

OOC: Bleh, Me = Slacker
Dante walked at the school grounds of Hircine High, looking for a certain someone: Charlotte Anders.
Dante had heard earlier throughout the whole school that she was seen hanging out with Tiao. Upon later investigation he found out that she was also the one causing so much trouble at the riot earlier...
Dante only wanted to see her for one reason. Tiao, obviously. He really wanted to know more about him, to find some weaknesses maybe.
Now Dante really wanted to be friends with Tiao, he really did. But with his little 'scene' at the riot by challenging Leon, Dante decided that he really needed to be relieved of his authority.
Dante walked up to the bench where he heard from a certain white-shirted smoker that Charlotte had first met Tiao. And Dante just hoped that he would be lucky and find her there.
And it turned out he was lucky. He found her reading a book, and as he approached her, she turned to him, "Can I help you?"
"Does one need an excuse to sit down next to a pretty girl?" Dante asked, while grinning and raising an eyebrow. He didn't want to come on too strong at first, he planned to make her comfortable enough to talk to him. So he just decided to play innocent as someone who just wanted to hit on her.
He sat down next to Charlotte, then asked, "So..." He said, trying to spark up a light conversation, too bad he made really bad small talk, "... what are you reading?"

She rolled her eyes at the opening comment, a classic pick-up line. However, something didn't quite feel right about him ... it almost seemed like he was ... fishing. Fishing for what though, was beyond her reasoning at the moment.
She glanced up at him, pulling her glasses off slowly, holding them down near her mouth, as she tilted her book downwards, taking measure of the boy. He looked vaguely familiar at a closer glance, like she had seen him in the halls a few times, but passed right on by.
Hm. Small talk.
Charlotte to, raised an eyebrow and tilted her book upwards, in the opposite direction, to allow him a better view of the title.
"Charlotte's Web," she shrugged, pulling her glasses back up before her eyes. "I read it once when I was eight ... it somehow seems fitting to be reading it again, if you'll excuse the ridiculous and cheap, inside metaphor."
She tilted the book back down to see the words, flicking the page and pretending to read - a skill, it seemed, she was becoming highly adept at. As much as she wanted to pretend that this guy had any innocent motives and just wanted a decent conversation, she knew it was far from true.
A. He genuinely wanted to hit on her, and had no interest other than getting in her pants.
B. He was looking for information.
The part that puzzled her, however, was if the second one was true, what sort of information could he possibly be seeking?
Well let's find out then ...
"But how about we just cut straight through the formalities and you ask me the things we both know you came here to ask. I've been at this school long enough to know when someone is fishing for information," she sighed, closing her book and setting it down beside her, looking up at the student as she spoke, blinking behind the clear lenses of her dark, thin rimmed glasses.
"I bet you already know my name, so we can save the trouble. But if it suits you, you can tell me yours before you start."

"Charlotte's Web..." Dante smiled, "... Interesting book to read..." Well, at least she wasn't ignoring him. One step closer to his goal.
But suddenely, Charlotte caught Dante off guard when she turned towards him and said, "But how about we just cut straight through the formalities and you ask me the things we both know you came here to ask. I've been at this school long enough to know when someone is fishing for information,"
Dante frowned, "You know you really are no fun... But, I guess my act was pretty bad, huh?"
"I bet you already know my name, so we can save the trouble. But if it suits you, you can tell me yours before you start."
Dante grinned and said, "Well, if I told you my name, then you would already know what I'd want to be asking..."
Dante was sure that Tiao had at least mentioned him to Charlotte. "My name is Dante..." Then he remembered that Tiao usually referred to him by his last name, "Dante Williams. Or maybe you've just heard of me by 'that Williams kid'..."
He smiled even more widely, hoping that Tiao HAD mentioned him. If he didn't, that would actually be pretty ashaming... to think that he wasn't even important enough to Tiao that he wasn't mentioned...

"Oh I'm plenty of fun. It just takes much more than a cheesy pickup line and a 'whacha reading?' to get through my monotonously bitchy exterior." Charlotte said, her voice very nearly literally dripping with sarcasm as she brushed a few wayward strands of her bangs back from her face, tilting her head back to afford a better view of 'The Williams Kid'.
"The Williams Kid huh? Yes, I remember hearing that name ... once." She said slyly, putting extra emphasis on the number of times she had heard his name. His grin had betrayed his want of recognition amongst his peers, and Charlotte was curious as to just how deep that need for recongition ran.
"Actually, I heard your name right here, in this spot when ..." She paused. That was it, hook, line, and sinker. Dante had been fishing for none other than Tiao Lei Shen, or at least information on him.
She recalled Tiao briefly listing a few 'troublemakers', remembering "The Williams Kid" was among that small list.
Know thine enemy.
So Dante wanted to know about Tiao, and she had inadvertantly stumbled straight upon it. The only question now was, what was she going to do about it, if anything?
"Alright kid," she sighed, finally deciding to come out with it. "Ask me what you came here to ask. What do you want to know about Tiao?"

OOC: So sorry for the late reply!!!
"Oh I'm plenty of fun. It just takes much more than a cheesy pickup line and a 'whacha reading?' to get through my monotonously bitchy exterior."
"Oh yes," Dante said, "But you could have at LEAST humoured me and played along with it..." He shrugged, "Anyway, I WAS never good at talking to girls before. God knows how my girlfriend can stand me... Hell, God knows how I even have a girlfriend." Dante then stopped rambling, he wasn't here to bore this girl to death.
"The Williams Kid huh? Yes, I remember hearing that name ... once."
"Once?" Dante asked, groaning. "That offends me. You'd think I'd be important enough so that I could be mentioned more than once..." He sighed, "Ahhh well..."
"Actually, I heard your name right here, in this spot when ..."
She hesitated, which meant she probably knew what he wanted.
"Alright kid, ask me what you came here to ask. What do you want to know about Tiao?"
"That's it?" Dante asked while grinning, "No 'you won't get anything out of me!' or 'like hell I'll tell you anything'?" He sighed, "... no fun..."
Then he continued, "Anyway, IF you are going to give information out this easily, tell me anything you think is significant..." He really wasn't expecting to get information this easily, but it couldn't hurt to try...

(OOC: It's alright; I suppose I can forgive you this time ) "You're wrong: God doesn't know how you ever managed to get a girlfriend. Her patience and attention span must have reached unholy high levels to be able to cope with you on a daily basis," Charlotte picked up her book with a sigh, flipping it open to her marked page and slipping the bookmark between the front page and the inside cover, as to prevent it from being blown away by the light winds. "I have no idea what you want to know, hence me ASKING you what you wanted to know in the first place. I have no idea what you consider is significant, so asking me what I think is significant is about as useless as asking a rock if it's self aware." She read slowly, not really paying attention, as before, waiting for Dante to say something else, which she would probably shoot down sarcastically again. "So start your questioning then Williams. Anytime you feel up to the challenge."

OOC: What about this time Sarah? >_<
"You're wrong: God doesn't know how you ever managed to get a girlfriend. Her patience and attention span must have reached unholy high levels to be able to cope with you on a daily basis,"
Dante made a show of wincing as Charlotte simply picked up her book, "Ouch." Dante said simply. Well, it was obvious that this girl didn't really like Dante so far. But Dante was hoping to change that. Maybe with some more conversation. Who knew?
"I have no idea what you want to know, hence me ASKING you what you wanted to know in the first place. I have no idea what you consider is significant, so asking me what I think is significant is about as useless as asking a rock if it's self aware."
"Humor, how cute." Dante said unenthusiastically and listened to Charlotte's next statement, "So start your questioning then Williams. Anytime you feel up to the challenge."
"Well..." Dante said, "if you're done making useless, snide remarks than I can actually start asking the questions then." He shook his head and started, "Well... first of all, do you know if Tiao has any..." He thought of a right way to say this, "Contacts, and I mean contacts that aren't pillars. And if you aren't too busy making some sarcastic comment about what I last said, it would be nice if I knew some weaknesses..."

(OOC: No worries, my sprain has been going down, but it still hurts a bit to type, so my responses are bound to be either short, slow, or both; your snail's pace is actually welcome ) "Ooooh, so that's it!" Charlotte exclaimed in mock surprise - a direct affront to Dante's request that she ceased her snide and "useless" quips. She honestly was not feeling quite inclined to give him that satisfaction. "Tiao whipped the snot out of you and damaged your ego, so now you want revenge!" Charlotte positively beamed up at Dante. "Well sorry to have wasted your time, but I don't make a point of watching all his fights," she sighed then, closing the book once again. Of course, the repeated closing and opening of the novella more than likely made her seem indecisive to the other student, though she was not overly concerned about that at the moment. "As for contacts, aside from Darren and the other pillars, I'm sure you've heard the rumors of us dating." She raised her eyebrows immediately after speaking, talking again before Dante would have a chance to interject. "Not true." She finished, quelling any possible truth in the rumor before Dante could make something of it. "At any rate, you seem like a nice enough guy," she shrugged, a hint of genuine kindness, and perhaps a smidgeon of friendliness. "What are you doing getting mixed up in games like revenge and fighting for your ego?"

"Ooooh, so that's it! Tiao whipped the snot out of you and damaged your ego, so now you want revenge!"
Dante repressed the urge to comment on how obvious this comment was. Of course he wanted revenge, why else would he want any information about Tiao? He sighed, this girl was smart, but it looked to Dante as if she was kind of slow...
"Well sorry to have wasted your time, but I don't make a point of watching all his fights," She started flipping through her book, which kind of annoyed Dante, but he didn't say anything.
Then she finally continued, "As for contacts, aside from Darren and the other pillars, I'm sure you've heard the rumors of us dating." Dante had heard these rumors. Tiao seemed the type to always being flirting with girls, if it was anyone but this cold, snide girl in front of him, he would believe these rumors, "Not true."
"At any rate, you seem like a nice enough guy," Dante's eyes fluttered open. He heard a hint of freindliness, not sarcastic or snide at all. Dante smiled mentally, maybe this girl wasn't so bad after all, "What are you doing getting mixed up in games like revenge and fighting for your ego?"
Dante sighed, "I just need to do it, to prove to myself, to everyone else, that I'm not weak..." Dante sighed again, "I know this doesn't make any sense to you... And I sound like some stupid "macho" guy who never likes to lose." Dante looked at Charlotte, "... and I don't really think I could explain it to you, but you're a nice girl, and I like you..." He smiled, than extended a hand, how about we stop pecking at each other?" By this, Dante really meant that he hoped that he and Charlotte could be freinds, and that SHE would stop making sarcastic comments towards him... At least, he hoped so...

Charlotte extended her hand as well, shaking Dante's slowly where she sat, then pulled on his arm, dragging herself upwards to stand on the bleachers beside him. She released his her hold of him, thumbing a hand in each pocket of her jeans, book held between her left arm and her hip.
"You know ..." she said slowly, exhaling carefully and quietly, glancing at Dante indirectly as she spoke. "... I understand a lot more about where you're coming from with this then you think."
She stood, gazing out along the grounds for a moment, her expression distant, but nonchalant, then Charlotte turned to face Dante, regarding him curiously, but sternly and with a certain conviction.
"Fighting Tiao, even if you beat him, will prove nothing to anybody but yourself. And even then it will pass, in time, and your victory will be empty. You need something to focus that drive, that work, that energy on. There are other ways to prove you're not weak."
The last line she allowed to dangle, leaving any questioning for Dante to pursue.
"Oh," she added suddenly as an afterthought, "I may like you, you may like me, we might be great friends, get along famously, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to stop being sarcastic to you," Charlotte finished with a playful and utterly platonic wink, as one might wink at a good friend, or a relative.
Oh yes ... very warm and fuzzy Charlotte ...

"Eh?" Dante raised an eyebrow inquisitevely as Charlotte calmly said that she understood Dante's motives. She then said why he SHOULDN'T fight Tiao.
"Fighting Tiao, even if you beat him, will prove nothing to anybody but yourself."
Dante sighed, he wasn't trying to prove anything to anybody BUT himself... Then he heard her go on, and something she said rang in Dante's mind...
your victory will be empty.
Dante sighed, and shook his head. Maybe this girl was right... Hell, she probably was. But that didn't make Dante want to beat Tiao any less. He felt as if he had to, no matter how long it took, no matter how many tries, he WOULD beat Tiao one day...
Then, Dante chuckled as she made the comment about her 'not stopping being sarcastic.' "Well," Dante said, "I guess I can't expect too much from you then..." He winked back, in a purely friendly way, just as Charlotte had, then he said, "So, I hear you're working with the pillars now, that true?" He asked, just curious. There was never really a way to keep a secret in a high school, especially one this size. No secret could be kept in here without it soon being spread across the whole school...

"So, I hear you're working with the pillars now, that true?"
At that moment there came a swirling. Well, perhaps not a swirling, but definately some layers. Yes. Layers.
On the one hand, Dante was right. She was working for the pillars, though they had yet to call on her for anything.
However, many plots which revolved and circulated in her mind involved her blackmail, and which also depended on some degree of secrecy and discretion.
Then there was the matter of Valencia, to whom any discussion about Pillar-assigned activities would most certainly lead. There was no chance that Charlotte would expose her "partner" to any prying eyes, when she had clearly expressed her intent of staying under the radar, at least for the time being.
Dante, also, was unsure. It sounded as if he had caught wind of a rumor, and was merely trying to clarify for the sake of conversation. Thusly said, the layers had just been counted, the candles blown out, and the cake cut.
She sighed.
"You probably heard that the same place you heard Tiao and I were dating. Again, not true. Besides," she paused, shooting him a patronizing glance, "that kind of rumor isn't really the best sort friend-making ice-breaker talk."
Charlotte brushed her hair back behind her ear, beginning to be thouroughly upset with the unruly wind.
"Now, the right sort of ice breaker would be to talk about this girlfriend of yours who apparantly has a gland the size of North America secreting pure patience." She grinned at that, though mostly a friendly mockery of Dante.
"What's her name?"

Charlotte pointed out the flaws in the 'rumors' he's heard, and Dante chuckled. She had a good point. "Well... I'm not really the best at making small talk..." Dante said lightheartedely when she commented on his choice of ice-breakers, "...but it was a question purely to feed my curiousity..."
When Charlotte asked his girlfreind's name, Dante did a combination of actions: All at the same time, he blushed, he chuckled, he stammered, he grinned, and he gave a half-smile. Dante didn't even know that all of these actions could be preformed at once...
Dante smiled, "Her name is Rebecca..." He sort of had a dreamy look in his eyes when he said her name, and he thought of her a while. Then he suddenely snapped back to reality and his ears reddened.
"So... um..." Dante said, slightly flustered and trying to avert attention from his previous blunder, then he remembered the comment on how Rebeccca must have had a lot of patience to deal with him, "...I'm not really that bad, am I?" Dante chuckled, then winked in a freindly, playful way.
Dante knew that she was just playing around, but he wanted to just have a light conversation and get to know Charlotte better. She seemed like a nice person, funny too, though Dante wasn't really sure if she would stop making small jokes at his expense...

"No no. You really are that bad," Charlotte immediately shot down Dante's woeful attempt to divert the conversation.
It was evident that the sophmore was easily embarassed by the subject of his girlfriend, though Charlotte could honeslty not imagine why. He was easy-going, light-hearted, expressive, kind, and the very epitome of the happy-go-lucky mindset that positively made her sick. Though she had to admit ... Dante wasn't so bad. If, of course, he would occasionally stop his thickly pasted aura of childlike playfulness.
"You seem like a good guy Dante," she sighed in all honesty, "and I think we might actually be able to be pretty good friends - provided you stop winking at me all the time ... it looks like you're trying to hit on me. But ..."
Charlotte paused, her heavy and serious emphasis on the but left to Dante's own interpretation, though she put enough trust in him that he would follow her thought.
"... You're just one of the many who want to fight Tiao ... to get back at him, prove themselves. And I really wish you would just give it up, right here, right now." She shrugged. "And before you even begin to think up an arguement, tell me this:
"Your girlfriend, Rebecca? The girl who's very name makes you blush and your eyes mist over because you care for her that much ... what does she think about your little mission of revenge?"

OOC: Sorry for crap post I'm kind of rushing this one... >_< "No no. You really are that bad,"Dante smirked, so okay, this wouldn't work out as perfectly as he planned. Though he never really planned his pitiful attempt at a diversion to actually work on someone as smart as Charlotte at all... But Dante kept a nonchalant face while Charlotte talked, "You seem like a good guy Dante, and I think we might actually be able to be pretty good friends - provided you stop winking at me all the time ... it looks like you're trying to hit on me." Dante stifled another smirk from running across his face, "But ..."Wha- Dante thought, But? I don't really like the sounds of this..."Your girlfriend, Rebecca? The girl who's very name makes you blush and your eyes mist over because you care for her that much ... what does she think about your little mission of revenge?"Dante's eyes opened in shock. What did Rebecca think? What did Rebecca think? Dante's face contortorted from an expression of surprise, to an expression of rage. He slammed his fist down on the bench, "Who the hell do you think you are? Bringing Rebecca into this? You're smart, so what? Don't..." He huffed, then stared at his clenched fist, shaking with rage... "Oh God..." Dante whispered, then he turned to Charlotte, "I-I'm sorry..." He sighed, "I didn't mean to..." He bit his lip, then turned his face away, then tried to simply answer Charlotte's question, "I really DON'T know what Rebecca thinks. I don't even think that she knows, all she knows was that Tiao beat my face in. Hell, I was still in crutches when I first met her..." He sighed, "But she probably wouldn't approve, she never really liked anything having to do with violence. Especially since..." He was about to mention when Rebecca was violated by that one man, but he refrained himself from doing so, this girl didn't need to know everything. He sighed, but she probably deserved to, after Dante's major act of rage... "Especially since... Rebecca was raped..." Some tears started to form in his eyes. Why was he getting so emotional now, God, he just met the girl, and now he was crying slightly and telling her about Rebecca? He sighed, "Why am I even telling you all this?"

Charlotte saw in Dante's eyes a sudden stream of shock when she asked what Rebecca thought of his mission of revenge. A shock that quickly gave way to a rage that made the sophmore seem to grow larger, intimidating, Charlotte feeling herself almosts shrink beneath his shadow.
Far removed from the eager and joyful boy she had just met, this was something fearful: a powerful, violent persona. Where at first she had witnessed no single speck of a possible violent nature in Dante, in the space of a moment, she saw an incredible rage and chaotic power.
Then Dante slammed his fist down on the bench.
Charlotte felt her body jerk as she stiffened back reflexively, startled by the sudden outburst. But then Dante calmed, apologizing for the outburst as he struggled to explain and answer.
"Who the hell do you think you are? Bringing Rebecca into this? You're smart, so what? Don't..."
Charlotte watched with a growing fear as Dante clenched his shaking fist in anger, then she breathed a slow, shaken exhale as he visibly calmed whispering sorrowfully. Still cringing slightly, Charlotte took a tenitave step towards him, concern replacing her rush of fear.
"Especially since... Rebecca was raped..."
Oh god ...
She moved back, unsure how to approach as Dante's eyes seemed to mist over, tears forming in his dark brown orbs. Then, in an awkward, stiff and most un-Charlottey move, she drew her arms about the sophmore's upper torso, dragging him into an unsure, but hopefully comforting hug.
Drawing back equally as awkwardly, Charlotte pulled her arms down by her sides, internally cringing. Consoling and comforting people was not her strong point, but standing by and watching someone break out crying over something so serious as what he mentioned was not something the dark-haired Junior was comfortable with either.
"You're telling me this because you know I was right before, and you want my advice," Charlotte said softly, attempting to make eye contact with Dante. "Well I think you need to tell Rebecca about what you're planning to do, talk to her about all this stuff. Who knows? She might even talk you out of it."
She grinned lightly, hoping to cheer him up and honestly wished he would not start crying all over her.

Tears started welling up inside of Dante's eyes. He couldn't believe what he just did. He couldn't believe what he was planning to do. To simply fight a man for an empty victory, that he wouldn't even feel later.
But what was worse was to feel this empty... feeling inside. Like no matter what he had, even Rebecca, his life would not fully be complete, no matter how long he tried to avert the feeling...
He sighed, then was caught completely off guard as he was.... hugged by Charlotte? As awkward and uncomfortable a position Dante was in, he knew that Charlotte just had to be cringing inside.
As Charlotte drew backwards, Dante gave her a half-smile, Was I really that pathetic? But inside, he was oddly comforted by the hug. The hug in itself was somewhat comforting, but the real comfort was that Charlotte seemed to actually care somewhat enough to care to try to comfort him. That or she just wanted him to shut up.
You're telling me this because you know I was right before, and you want my advice, Well I think you need to tell Rebecca about what you're planning to do, talk to her about all this stuff. Who knows? She might even talk you out of it."
Dante sighed, and smiled at Charlotte, "You might be right, and thank you. But even if I do continue in my..." He tried to think of a word, "... 'objective' to defeat Tiao, I hope the feelings won't be too hard? I know that you two aren't dating or anything, but I can guess that you two are good freinds?"

Charlotte tilted her head downwards slightly, almost solemnly, and let out a heavy sigh. A sigh which, in a moment of what could only be described as pathetic fallacy, the wind blew a mournful gust straight across the grounds, the clouds dark, whilst Charlotte's hair blew across her face and her red, yellow, and green striped scarf billowed before her. Then the wind calmed and she brushed her wayward bangs back into place with her hand.
"It's just a fight ... and like I said, I don't make a point of watching them," she paused, inhaling the crisp air deeply. "I really wish you would just forget all about your 'objective', as you put it, but if you really feel you have to follow through with it ... I don't think there'll be too many hard feelings thrown around. As I said, I understand a lot more about your motives than you might think ..."

Dante nodded as Charlotte replied not soon after making a sigh. Well, at least there wouldn't be any hard feelings if the fight actually happened. But after she talked, Dante sighed...
"So, you say that you 'understand a lot more about my motives than I might think ...' How so? If you donb't mind me asking, and there's no offense intended, but you don't look the fighter, and you seem too cool-headed to actually get angry enough to 'want revenge'."
The question really didn't have any purpose, but it was partially gnawing inside of Dante ever since she said it a while ago...
It's not like I doubt it or anything, but how can SHE know what this is like? I mean, I haven't seen much emotion from her, except for the... hug... and I could tell that it was reeeally awkward for her to do that. So did she really ever really get that angry? He sighed, I guess I can only find out if she answers...
