FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: What is Rp?
A: Simply put Role-playing. In sorts it is acting with an imaginary character of your creation. Interacting with other player's characters and creating a storyline. Through interaction with other people’s characters you create a storyline for yourself and other people, and expand from there.
Q: Why are there so little females that sign up on this RP board?
A: Females, as a whole, are more drawn towards less violence oriented role-playing boards, XIN more often than not is a combat/drama-based storyline, and as such tends to not appeal to many female RP’ers… Any new female players, I give you this warning now. The guys will swarm to you….
EDIT: Well, in recent months there have been a relatively surprising influx of female players, many of which are substancially active.
Q: What is Hircine High?
A: Hircine High is a role-playing community with roots in the flash cartoon of the same name, created and owned by Max Mao and Steven Lim of www.lifepoint1.com, the board follows the lives of students who have left New York after the destruction of Varron Academy. Having been transferred cross-country to a new high school in San Francisco, this forum is a look towards the future of their lives, how they have grown since the days of Varron, and the challenges they now face in a new city…Old friends are still around, but this is a whole new city for them to try and survive in…
Q: How long has Hircine High been around?
A: We are a subsidiary board created from members of the original XIN RPB, attempting to breathe new life into the forum as well as save it from collapse following a possible deletion by Proboards. However, that issue is resolved in one way or another and is not of any concern. This board was created at the end of 2006, but the vast majority of the members are highly active RP’ers from the old forum, many of them having spent over a year there, in some cases closer to two. These are not amateurs, so you’d best be on your toes ^^
Q: Is Hircine High strictly based off of the Xin Flash on LifePoint1?
A: A complex question to answer, given that on one hand, we follow the same principle of the flash in its base design. The majority of the action and storylines take place within the school, whether simple interactions between two or three characters, to massive rivalries between opposing gangs that spills onto the streets and involves a much larger number of people….However, we do try to avoid reference to the series whilst In Character.
Q: Do you reference any other RP boards with yours?
A: This matter is currently under debate.
Q: Do you use stat-based Role-playing?
A: No. We chose to step away from that particular method. This forum is more based on detail and how well you present your character. If you want to be a powerful player then you prove it, if you can outwit and outplay someone, then your character is stronger. However, never rest on your laurels, new players come along and jump through the ranks with surprising skill, don’t be too quick to judge…Even the top players from the older days of the forum are hard-pressed with some of the new talent that has stepped up.
Q: Does Hircine High have captains or pillars?
A: Currently we have an active captain and three active pillars, as it stands we would willingly accept one more, but are content with the number at present. If a suitable candidate comes along then exceptions might be made...?
Q: How many students attend the High School?
A: It’s difficult to put a specific number, but we argued that in a city like San Francisco, as much as there will be more than a single High School to the area, it would still hold around 2000-2100 students at any given time.
Q: Where is the school actually located?
A: This is a question we often get from people, so for those who persist in asking it, here you go…The school is located to the north of San Francisco in the Marina district, roughly eight or ten kilometers from the Golden Gate Bridge and effectively on the beach. The school will be situated a little further inland of course, but this area gives us a wide demographic for things like beaches, woodland nearby at the G.G Recreation Area, the main cities itself spreading throughout to the East and South, and Chinatown a half-hours drive away….
Q: Am I allowed to have more than one RP Character?"
A: Right, this is where I tend to get my claws out with a lot of people and really get nasty, because time and again people just make several characters without asking me about it. For the most part, it wasn't a problem for the former admin on the site, but due to accounts being neglected in favour of one character a restriction is kept in play for the application of secondary characters, as noted.
You MUST have 500 posts before you ask the admin (he's the dude who approves yer secondary). There are RARE occasions he might forgo it if there is a good reason, but don't go thinking a flutter of eyelashes will get you anything but a bitchslap. The reason for the large number? As worded before, in MSN to someone who asked the very same question:
"That, to me, says 'I'm intent on sticking around and RPing this character well, I'm invested in him and have shown good progress'.".
Please, keep this in mind.
Q: What is an NPC?
A: NPC- Non-Playable Character, It could be a friend on a phone, a girlfriend in a different area visiting, it could be your parents, grandparents, family members, a random person ringing you out in a store. Something to aid you in posts here and there to make your character seem more realistic and well rounded. Most of the senior characters have a few NPC’s that they employ during closed threads, look to those threads for examples…
Q: If I’m not allowed to have multiple characters may I have NPCs?
A: Yes, but please keep in mind you can not make a thread with just a NPC; you can not put a NPC in fights, tourneys. They are merely there to have someone other than your thoughts to talk to. If you get carried away with it, you will be banned from using NPC's. You do not need approval for NPC characters.
Q: Why am I not allowed to post in character without my Bio being accepted?
A: A common one, I get it a lot. Think of it like this, your bio is the ONLY thing we have to go on in terms of what we've to expect from you, and to the staff (who are far more adept at reading personality from a bio than you'd think) it's a foreword to your character. If edits are required, then made adequately, it gives a better impression. By having newcomers wait until their bios are approved, it also offers them a brief time to read over our RULES AND FAQ.
Besides, we let you newbies post OOC until then, just hold tight. ^^
Q: Are we allowed to have gangs?
A: Yes, BUT in order to be a leader of a gang your gang must have a bio and be pre-approved before being accepted of having a gang.
Q: How many can be in a gang, NPC wise?
A: NPC’s for gangs are dependant on the number of RPC (role-play character) members you have, and their post count…One of our senior members created a very useful guide for this which can be found in the gang bio section of the board, and in the event you choose to make a gang it should be one of the first things you look at.
Q: Are any characters allowed to use Ki/chi/ect?
A: No, this is the one major thing we do NOT allow from the Xin series, and as such often have some problems with fans of the show arguing that point with us. Understandably, we try to accommodate for peoples characters in the best part, but we operate a much more 'real' fighting system here.
Q: Are any characters allowed to be possessed by demons or have a split personality that may aid them when needed?"
A: We try to limit the number being that it has been overused. New characters that have these attributes we have asked them to change them. Its old news, unoriginal and frankly? I’m tired of seeing it. Please, find a new method for your character being deranged.
Q: Are students able to be Masters at their skilled fighting?
A: The thing that must be remembered more than anything, we are still young people at the bottom of it all. Physically, very few of us are capable of having spent twenty, thirty years or more mastering a style, so it’s logical we don’t treat our characters as absolute masters of fighting. Being highly skilled is not out of the question, being a very powerful fighter is not, but being unbeatable is. However you consider it, you really aren’t going to be much of a master after a few years….
Q: Are firearms allowed in the forum?
A: The use of firearms against RPC’s is considered as a whole a big no-no on the forum, but with the changing times on the board and the rise of gangs the issue is something that is currently being discussed among the admins. At this moment, firearms are not permitted, except in a closed storyline and in that case it must be a realistic manner at that….Administrators will expect notification of these storylines so they may pass judgment, similarly as we do for mature storylines containing sexual material or drug references.
Q: What is God Moding and why can't I do it?
A: Godmod is when a player takes another player's character without permission and does harmful things without the other player being able to stick up for him or herself. Godmod tends to show how little you are able to Rp and makes other players stay clear from you, so do yourselves a favour and pull yourselves together, get things sorted out.
Q: If I fight another student in a non-matchup fight, who decides the winner?
A: The players may decide the winner of the fight. Though if neither will pick then you may get an outside source like a mod or admin to help you pick a winner.
Q: Are drugs or narcotics allowed on the board?
A: In closed, mature-marked storylines, however ANY such thread that is made must be discussed with the administration. All decisions are final.
Q: Are students allowed to smoke or drink?
A: Most of the students are under eighteen years of age (the boards age of consent for alcohol consumption), so as a whole we do not encourage the activity. Fake I.D's will only go so far for you, we do have staff who control police on the board, and they do jump out on you once in a while. If you get busted, this is their disclaimer to note: Sucks for you, don't argue, you got caught. As far as smoking is considered, again whilst we do not encourage it, if your character chooses to smoke then we are not privy to force you to change that.
Q: Are we allowed to have our student live alone?
A: The students, as a whole, are not going to have access to the kind of money that merits them living along (see the next question), as such the school members MUST either justify their accomodation being within the schools dormitories or with a parent/guardian. Those who can live alone are typically graduates from Varron Academy, though exceptions (when justified) can be made.
Q: Is my character allowed to be rich?
A: Define rich? It's an ambiguous remark to make but as a whole it should be looked upon as such...Not every kid gets gifted a huge payroll from their family, most of them work a part-time job or have allowances, thus marking their financial gains. The characters that ARE exceptionally wealthy on the board, however, have justified through several years of storylines their acquirations, for example, Shamino Warhen is a business entrepeneur, Taiku Akimoto is a club owner who started at the bottom of the ladder. If you want to have your character make money, fine, but the first 'I won the lottery!' thread seen will be punished horribly ^^
Q: Am I allowed to have a cool hotrod/bike/racing car?
A: People are limited because people get carried away. If you do not have a valid reason on why you own a beamer or a racecar, we will decline you of having one and you will be stuck walking. As is consistently stated by the staff, the system here is effectively ehanced reality. Not fantasy.
Q: I've noticed some players use the metric system, how do I figure it kg to lbs?
A: The internet, other than its grand uses for adult entertainment, actually has a lot of different converters. This one found by your fellow rper Kokaku.

Q: What is a VIP?
A VIP is a player that has been on the site for a long time, has proven himself or herself worthy of the title by providing excellent threads, has helped other and has put alot of time and effort into the site. We like to show that we respect them by giving them the title. However if you have been on the site but have not put enough time and dedication into it that does not mean you will become a VIP. In the end it is the admins decision on weither or not you get the title.
Q: Can a VIP act like a Moderator and ban me?
A: No, they are unable to lock, modify, ban or use any mod features. Though they do tend to tell the Mods or Admins that are able to do those things about what you did and depending on the decisions made you will be dealt with by an admin or mod.
Q. What if I want to take pillar/captain positions via methods like blackmail and the like...Can I do such a thing?
A. Allow me to quote the Kurtzatron, as dubbed the commandment by Junpei.....
Q: If I'm inactive, will my account be automatically deleted?
A: To answer this, I shall quote a previous remark I made in the OOC section:
That's how it works.
Q: What is the 'Graveyard' in the OOC section for?
A: As might be expected, in the OOC some threads will quickly die out and be forgotten, whilst some live on for a long time and stay popular. Threads that pass the second page will now be considered for two things, humour factor and importance. Old threads that have no real purpose left on the board, such as absence notes or the like will be deleted, but picture threads, joke threads and other such things will be saved for new members to trawl through and read over. The section is read only, consider it like a scrap-book for the board. ^^
Q: What is Rp?

STOP LOOKING FOR SHORTCUTS! GET OFF YOUR LAZY ASS AND MAKE SOME PLOT!Q: If I'm inactive, will my account be automatically deleted?
A: To answer this, I shall quote a previous remark I made in the OOC section:
Starting on the 1st of every month, I will be actively removing accounts that fall under these circumstances.
30 days inactivity+No posts/bio present = Deletion.
45-59 days inactivity+Under ten posts = Deletion.
60-74 days inactivity+Under twenty posts = Deletion.
Inactive over three months, unless cause for absence noted, high chance of deletion.
Simply put, I would like to keep the place tidy, for all wants and intents. Now, if you've got active characters, don't worry. This doesn't apply to you. This is partially aimed at newcomers as a warning of sorts...
It's nothing personal if your account gets deleted, if you've been lurking, this will count for you. So long as you're logging in and being present on the boards (even just a couple posts to the ooc once in a while if you have a slump), you're safe.
