Just curious; who here reads Harry Potter?
I assumed it was a good time to bring it about, as the 7th book just came out. I, myself, have just finished reading it a mere ten minutes ago.

I must say I'm a fan. Just over 3/4 through the book myself. J.K. Rowling has managed to influence my own style somewhat as I consider and alter my current literary project to cast it's aim in a much wider berth as far as it's intended audience goes.
On a more Admin like note... The spoilers that have been rocketing around the net shall not be repeated here. Any such posts will be deleted and you will receive a warning level. I like to think that we are a civilized community that doesn't stoop to ruining the fun for everyone else to get some kicks.
If you simply MUST talk about what happens, make a thread that clearly states in the title that such spoilers will be present.

Yeah I heard enough spoilers everywhere. I have yet to read the 5th book actually, I got tired of it after reading the fourth one. I'll eventually get there... lol

We all think that of ourselves Connor, but some of us have no need to prove it in polls. Definitely a Harry Potter fan, but I haven't even bought the final book yet. I decided that was an advantage to me for three reasons: - I could avoid the God forsaken (I'm sure the Catholics would agree with me there xD) worshippers of J.K. Rowling at the debuts.
- I could just as easily walk into Wal Mart and pick up the book for half the price that the Book stores will likely profit for, and pick up some groceries, clothes, and maybe even a video game at the same time (could even get those Awesome pictures of me done at the 1 Hour photo...)
- It's been a LONG time since I've read the other six books, and they're so bloody long that I've practically forgotten everything. I promised myself that I'd reread the ENTIRE series consistently before reading Deathly Hallows. That way I'll be able to clue in on everything.
But now that J.K. Rowling has released her final Harry Potter book, a bit of my childhood can finally be placed in ease to grow up. Now all that's left is bug the hell out of Dan Brown until he comes out with the Solomon Key... But still, remember folks: wizards and their sissy wands still stand no chance against what a good Lightsaber could accomplish. Jedi for the win. Thank you.

I'm not a fan of harry potter. When I see them all fighting with their magics I'm always left to wonder why they dick around so much when a simple knifing would do. Just shank the bitch in the kidneys! Oh, and Leon, Optimus could stomp the shit out of any Jedi.

Worst book in the series. Absloute rubbish way to end a multi billion dollar book franchise. I think she took way too many drugs between the 6th and 7th book. Come to think of it, the half blood prince wasn't that great either...

Not in love with the series, but she does a great job developing so many characters who play a pivitol role throughout. I think I have 3 more chapters left to finish in the final book, and I can't wait to get home from work and read them. And like a true fan, I've already read the last chaper. But it's not about the end, it's the story behind it.

Unless a story (such as the anime 'X') uses the end results to drag people into the tale of HOW, reading the last chapter is for weaboo losers. Also, Gandalf is the greatest mage to ever appear in literature, ever. And i've read 'Black Sun Rising'

Yes have to agree that Gandalf is the greatest wizard, mage or what ever you like to call them ever to create on a page no can beat him.
Personally, I missed the whole harry potter craze in the uk and only got into it at book four so really i'm not a "hardcore" fan. People that dressed up and went to books shops to get the book are just weirdly. For some reason though i always get angry with the books and stop reading them for a while then come back.

Right, since I refuse to read the book in any other language than my own wonderful tongue, I am forced to wait yet another 3 months for some lazy translator to get his bloody wand out of his behind and start getting the damn thing translated and brought to my household.
And I just saw movie nr 5, not anywhere near the book, but still a fine movie.

finished the 7th today since i got it at around... midnightish.
I wasn't really a fan of the series and I'm still not, but I have to hand it to rowling since her writing has improved a great deal since the first book. It wasn't really the story itself I was looking forward to, but rather everything else. Her ability to create such a separate society along with a community that involves a pretty large array of minor characters is what impresses me most. I think that shone in her last 2 books.
As for Harry? It was actually lackluster and while I guess I enjoyed it, I had a fun time flipping around the kickass bookmark that came with a japanese novel. (Not manga or graphic. An actual novel)

It wasn't the best way to end such a damn great series, but I guess what happens happens. I finished it at 6 am today, and also avoided the internet since it came out. I wasn't about to let it get spoiled for me.

I have to agree that I don't enjoy this one quite as much as the last few... But it's mostly due to (SPOILER | Highlight) all the arguments that arise between Harry, Ron and Hermione... It just gets on my nerves because it happens too often and becomes un-enjoyable.

Gandalf is immortal. Actualy. this requires no argument. if you've read the LOTR and the prequels you know Gandalf is superior.

I'm a slow enough reader to be considered as "not hardcore enough" (I finally finished Book 7), but I was hooked on the series ever since Book 3 came out and the whole " BAN HARRY POTTER!" craze happened at my school. (I was in 4th Grade and I still remember my last words to Brandon as he left the classroom. Thinking back, I believe I scarred him for life with those words... Since I was a REAL Harry Potter nut back then. Heheheheh...) But anyhow, I have to admit that Book 7 ticked me off more than I wanted to be... The following blob of black is fraught with spoilers. [black]"Survival"-themed stories tick me off. Half of the book involved arguing somewhere in the wilderness. Why did they HAVE to have a "collection quest" to defeat Voldemort... A lot of the book was "too random". Too many characters were dropping like flies left and right and it feels as though it was done merely for shock value than for development. Don't get me started with the "side-quests". I saw more fan-service than I wanted to. Even I get sick and tired of the "let's have an entire 30-page-long chapter devoted to the 'truth'!" sequences. Especially when many of them involved going around in circles and weren't actually the truth... I swear, I probably wasn't the only one who thought WWII as the Death Eaters went about "purging" the wizarding world! Why did almost everyone suddenly forget how to do non-verbal spells since Book 6? Not enough Hogwarts... The epilogue doesn't make me want to read any more HP...[/black] But alas, there're good points... [black]Kreecher deserves a hug. So does Luna when she's not "crazy". Draco ought to get a hug too. And let's not forget Dudley. I'm still pleased at how all the characters developed throughout the series since it's supposed to take place over a span of several years. Chapter 33 might as well be the best chapter in the entire book 'cause it's the truth, but not as annoying as the ones surrounding a certain other particular wizard... Even thought I saw some of the development from a mile away.[/black] Now, time for me to watch the movies and point out the things that they messed up with... And finally browse DeviantArt once more, with spoilers I can now look at.

I'm a fan of the series...
I wasted a couple of years of my life reading the series, might as well not make it all for naught and read the last one...
And my will is REALLY struggling to not hilight all of these spoilers... (I was out of town for a week and couldn't read it...)
