"Darn it, he's fast." Victor thought. "My biggest error was thinking out my move. The idea is not to act out impulsively, but simply to react accordingly."
Kyu intercepted his low thrust with a low roundhouse kick, aimed at his kicking leg. It was too soon to pull back or do anything for that matter. Both legs collided with each other and Victor felt a horrible pain go up his calf as his kick was knocked off course. Victor was only able to save himself from a leg cramp which would have taken him out of the fight by quickly curling his leg and flexing the muscles in it for a brief moment before bringing it down again to earth. His leg was hurt, but he would still be able to fight with it.
Kyu wasted no time and used his left arm to throw a jab at him. Victor decided he would take a more aggressive form of attack-still keeping Kyu's teachings in mind of course-and took the opportunity he was given. He raised his right arm up in a rising high block which would allow him to catch Kyu's arm after he had blocked it and turn it so the elbow faced outward. At the same time, he would use his left arm to press into Kyu's elbow joint, inflicting heavy pain.
Of course, he would have to watch out for Kyu's lower region, which would logically attack him while he performed this combination, so while it happened, he would use his left leg to deliver a quick snap kick to Kyu's groin.

Victor's overcomplication was one of his biggest problems. Instead of verbalizing that lesson however, it was one Kyu knew Victor would need to learn on his own. The best way of helping him do that: beat it into him.
While Victor's moves were indeed rather good moves, he was too used to using them in practice, with opponents who didn't struggle, or struggle much, against it. In reality, once Kyu felt the deflection of the block his arm began to retract. If Victor was intent on still grabbing the arm, he would have to reach, likely overextending himself. Regardless, the extra time would be of dire consequence.
Kyu pivoted on his now frontly planted right foot. Torquing to the left, he would throw a short but hard right hook punch to the left temple of Victor. The torquing motion with the pivot would cause his hip to move frontwards, causing the snap kick to collide with the bone, rather than genitalia. With both hands out, and on one foot, it was lights out for Victor.

He had made a miscalculation and the only consolation was that it was the last one.
Victor knew better than to try to overextend his arm to grab at Kyu as he retracted, but now he could still strike with the kick. He snapped it out with his leg.
It went wrong.
Kyu torqued to the side and the kick struck bone rather than the soft genitalia. At the same time, Kyu used his twisting motion to twist toward him and deliver a shattering hook to his temple. Victor's guard was still out, but he couldn't get it up to the side in time. The hook cracked against his temple and Victor staggered backward. His vision was blurry, and his head felt like somebody had set off a bunch of firecrackers inside of it.
"Not bad." Victor croaked. "You are... good..."
He stepped toward Kyu, trying to regain his stamina, but the fight was over. Kyu's strike had dug right into his temple and the pain was too excruciating. His vision was hazy and he was dizzy from the strike. Victor fell to his knees, panting. That had been a good match.
Despite the pain, Victor grinned. "I guess I still have a lot to learn, especially if I'm to achieve my goal." he said.

The hook connected, causing Victor to stumble back. The fact that he wasn't knocked unconcious in itself was admirable, and it said something about the boy's determination. Still, Victor remained standing, and after the few words were spoken Kyu snapped to strike again, intent on finishing it. His left fist went out, aimed directly for Victor's nose. As Victor fell forward to his knees, Kyukaku's punch would snap back, avoiding the hit by no more than a few millimeters.
Kyukaku's arms dropped to his side as he relaxed, dropping his fighting stance. Victor was wobbling back and forth, dizzy from the strike. He was also panting, which to Kyu meant that he had indeed been working hard, which was also promising.
"You can't master everything in an afternoon." Kyukaku stated, his voice returning back to its usual light hearted manner. As he spoke, he would kneel down by Victor, dipping his left arm underneath him as he would heft Victor up to his feet, offering his shoulder as balance. He'd walk with Victor until he had recovered.
"Tell me about this goal, if you would."

"You can't master everything in an afternoon."
Victor nodded. True, but any fool knew that. He knew there was no way he could completely change his abilities in just one session. He would need to train hard for a long time to achieve what he desired. Still, Kyu had offered him some good pointers. He would incorporate them into his style from here on out.
"I know, I know." Victor said in agreement. "I appreciate what you've taught me. Now I'm one step closer. It's a long road, but I'm going to keep going down it. I have to get stronger you know. It'll take me awhile, but everyone can get strong enough if they work at it, right?"
Kyu reached down and hefted him up, letting Victor lean on his shoulder. Victor smiled in appreciation. He was still disoriented and dizzy, but the pain in his head was beginning to abate a little. It was good to have something to lean on.
"Tell me about this goal, if you would."
Victor initially felt that he should just say nothing, but his better side won out in the end. It wouldn't hurt. Besides, it wasn't much. A tad cliched, but not much.
"My goal?" Victor mused. "My goal is to keep training and improving until I become skilled enough to challenge some of the elite fighters here. I'm not interested in overthrowing the school powers or becoming captain or anything. Heck I don't even mind if I lose to them. As long as I give them the fight of their lives, I'll be satisfied. I guess you could say I just want to test my limits."
Pausing for a moment, Victor added, "Besides, once Darren Blayne leaves, the school is going to dissolve into chaos. It'll be Varron all over again. One should be prepared, right?"

"Without a doubt." Kyukaku replied, proceding to heft Victor up to his feet.
As they walked, albeit very slowly, Victor had chosen to share his goal with Kyukaku. It was appreciated. By nature Kyukaku had always been curious-- something that had gotten him hospitalized in his first week in Varron. Even with that in mind, it was a decision Kyukaku didn't regret in the least, for it opened his eyes to dangers of the world, and those in it. One rang the loudest in Kyu's ears however was Victor's final statement, something Kyukaku hadn't even thought of.
He's right, without a clear School Captain this could turn into another Varron. Possibly worse with how things have been going lately. Maybe I should-
"Yeah." Kyukaku spoke, interrupting his own thoughts as he looked back to Victor. "It's good to be prepared for the worst."
"You've got ambition, that's for sure. Hell, you sound alot like how I was back in Varron." Kyukaku grinned, pausing a moment before continuing. "But while ambition is good, your goal is empty--it lacks foresight. Say you achieve this, you become stronger than you ever have been. You beat the Captain, the gang leaders, you beat me... what then?"

"I don't know what will happen when Darren is gone." Victor continued. "The riots won't necessarily start immediately. The students will most likely discuss what should be done. Then the ones who are most power hungry-not necessarily the stronger students, but probably the weaker, more desperate ones-will attempt something. That's the catalyst. With that, the student's begin to fight little by little, until a bid for power begins and control gradually breaks down. It's not all at once. It's a simple chain reaction, like dominoes."
Victor sighed, remembering the Varron incident. He had not been present at that, but he had known about it. The result had been total chaos. But it did prove that one single event was all it took to bring down everything. Then again, Varron had become corrupt enough, especially with the gangs fighting for control. And now here was Hircine, sparkling and beautiful, slowly becoming poisoned by the same corruption that had brought Varron down. Was there no end?
"You've got ambition, that's for sure. Hell, you sound alot like how I was back in Varron. But while ambition is good, your goal is empty--it lacks foresight. Say you achieve this, you become stronger than you ever have been. You beat the Captain, the gang leaders, you beat me... what then?"
He had considered that for awhile.
"Well," Victor said, "like I said, my intention is not to win, just to give them an incredible fight. I don't wish to challenge the Captain and as for the gang leaders, Kvist will probably just evade capture like he normally does. If he does, I may go after him myself when he's alone and off guard. His followers are dwindling and his generals are dead. I can't tell you why, but I have a reason to go after him. As for Maverik, I see no reason to fight him. He may be a gang leader, but his intentions are noble."
Pausing a moment, Victor added: "I don't intend to battle all the elites, just a few who caught my eye, and not out of malice. One of them is a particularly dangerous young man by the name of Zeniro, whom I know I am no match for at the moment. I'll have to train for a long time before I can even consider getting near him. The other, I'd rather not mention by name, but he's a graduate and runs one of the clubs around here."
Reflecting on Kyu's words of how this was a hollow goal, Victor said: "It's a hollow goal only if a warrior fights for malice, blood lust, or revenge. Then if he loses, he'll never be happy. I'm only doing this to test myself. If I can prove to myself that I have surpassed my limits, I'll be satisfied, regardless of the outcome."

"Victor...Kvist is dead."
While Kyukaku had never been a fan of Kvist, going so far as to sayhe hated him, there was still sadness in his voice. The loss of any life was depressing, but most of Kyu's resentments were held towards some of the people he had considered heroes. Maverik, for one, wasn't as honorable as Victor, and formerly Kyu, believed. He had murdered Tank with his own hands, and played a great part in the murder of Kvist. The Watchmen weren't high on Kyu's list now, and it was hard to not feel upset with Taiku as well, even with knowing the man's past.
"I'm not going to tell you what to do, but challenging Zeniro would be a mistake. You're an honorable person, I can tell that. I know Zeniro better than most, and a fight with him would be anything but a test. Its life and death, and no one should seek that out." Kyukaku hesitated, the animal instinct to remain wary that had been brought forth by Zeniro began to crawl up his stomach, just by talking about the beastial maori.
"But you're missing my point. Win or lose, you get your challenge. You accomplish your goal and surpass your limits. You're now stronger than ever. So tell me, what do you do then? There's a responsibility that comes with strength. You need to find something greater than yourself to fight for."

Kvist was dead...?
DEAD?
When the hell had that happened?
Victor felt the incredible urge to laugh, but suppressed it. If Kvist was gone, then naturally the Hand of Fate was gone. But how? Had the Watchers finally brought them down? Probably, given how Maverik and Kvist had been at each other's throats for who knows how long. Oh well. With Kvist out of the way, a significant amount of peace would be brought to the school. But at the same time, a whole new set of problems would arise...
"So Kvist is dead?" Victor asked. "Did it have anything to do with that article in the paper about that building that got blown up? They found a bunch of charred bodies in there that could only be identified by their dental remains. If I had to guess, those were the remnants of the Hand of Fate soldiers."
"Still, even with Kvist gone, new problems will come, right?" Victor continued, an expression of concern crossing his face. "Maverik may have taken him down, but with him as the dominating force, now what? What if Genaht becomes strong again and tries to fight the Watchers? Or what if power goes to Maverik's head somehow and he decides to enforce harsher rules on the school? He is student dean after all, so it's natural that he might try to crack down on the students more in an attempt to make sure they don't try anything that Kvist tried. If that happens, there could be a massive revolt."
Yes, there were plenty of possibilities indeed...
"But you're missing my point. Win or lose, you get your challenge. You accomplish your goal and surpass your limits. You're now stronger than ever. So tell me, what do you do then? There's a responsibility that comes with strength. You need to find something greater than yourself to fight for."
"I get it now." Victor said with a sigh. Lord, the pain was still there! Kyu really had strength. "You say I need something to use my strength for instead of just keeping it and fighting with it. I guess..."
He thought about it for a moment.
"I guess I could go to college and become a teacher here." Victor said. "No way would I let the corporal punishment regime corrupt me. I'd teach myself beforehand to do the job right, only using it when it's absolutely necessary, and even then I wouldn't just pummel somebody into the ground like some of the teachers here. Who knows? Maybe then I could work toward fixing some of the corruption among the students and faculty. If things were improved and the violence ended, the teachers and the most capable students could teach combat lessons to the new students!"
Victor chuckled slightly. "I still remember Edward back at Varron. He was the one guy in my whole life I never wanted to fight. But now... I just don't know, even though I'll probably never see him again."

"Yeah, Edward was pretty hardcore. I would of liked to fight him."
Unknowest to himself, Kyukaku had indeed faught Edward before. It was in his last tournament in Varron, just before being framed and sent to jail. Edward had been disguised as a college student, placed in a three way battle between Kyukaku and Pine. Pine was defeated first, leaving Kyukaku to battle with someone he only knew of as some guy. Kyu had always wanted to battle Edward, and he had always wanted to know the identity of the man that beat him that day. One in the same, and he'd never know.
"Now that's a plan. I was talking in more general ways, but you've skipped right to planning out a means. If that's what you want to do, I say go for it. Its a respectful strategy."
Kyukaku paused as they took a few more steps foward, letting all the information soak in for both of them before speaking up again.
"How're you doing? Still loopy?"

"Indeed it is a plan, Kyu." Victor said with a smile. "Indeed it is a plan."
Kyu asked him how he was doing. Well, the pain was still there-God almighty the guy hit like the Devil-but he could stand now.
"Well, my head still feels like somebody set off a stick of dynamite in it, but I'm not dizzy anymore. Been awhile since somebody hit me that hard." Victor chuckled.
He stood up from Kyu and shook his head slightly. He could support himself again and walked alongside his trainer, ignoring the throbbing in his temple. He'd take some aspirin later and rest for the remainder of the day. That had been a short, but sweet match. He'd remember everything he had been taught and incorporate it from here on out while continuing to train.
"That was a good match, Kyu. Thanks a lot." Victor said. "I'll have to keep working on those tips you taught me as well as my own techniques if I want to get stronger and work toward my goal. With Darren about to leave and Kvist out of the way, the students and pillars had better start preparing for something big to happen."
As he walked with Kyu, Victor asked a question. "Two things: First off, do you know of anybody who could serve as a regular trainer for me for awhile or even a brief period? And secondly, regardless of my former question, do you have any goals yourself while you're in here?"

Kyukaku nodded in agreement with Victor, the match was a good one. He was happy to see Victor was able to stand by himself. It wasn't that he minded giving support, but this was easier on both men.
"Hopefully, they won't need to train for anything."
Kyu flashed a smile, expressing his hopes for a peaceful time. While unlikely, Kyu would still keep an optimistic look on it. People were naturally good at heart, given the right circumstances they would act accordingly, and peace would be obtainable. That, of course, is in theory. Its much harder to do when applying it to real life. However, that didn't mean one couldn't try.
"I'm not making any promises, as I can't speak for anyone. However, I heard of someone else getting lessons from Odin Reeves. There's no doubt he would be a good trainer, though be aware his style differs greatly from my own."
Kyukaku paused, thinking how to better word his second answer.
"My goals have always been more generally speaking. Some call me an idealist. However, its my belief that it is the duty of the strong to protect the weak. I'm one person, and while I can't protect everyone, I'll do what I can for those I can, no matter the circumstance. With the new year approaching, I may have a better means to do so. We'll just have to see."

"Odin Reeves?" Victor asked. "I know I've heard of him somewhere before..."
Victor thought about it for awhile. Yes, that name had popped up at Varron quite a bit at the underground tourneys they held once a month. This Odin character rang a bell. But where? He sounded so familiar...
"Ah yes!" Victor suddenly said. "I know of him! I've never met him, but I know who he is! He's one of the most formidable fighters around from what I've heard! Champion of the recent tournament in fact! He's a boxer from what I've heard, though I also hear he throws in grappling techniques to make his own form of combat which is extremely powerful."
Continuing, Victor said, "I wouldn't mind training under him for awhile. Only thing is I don't know what he's like in terms of personality. I do not fear training regimes-believe me, the training I was subjected to for my whole life taught me not to fear pain-but I don't like working with jerks, if you know what I mean. Not that I'm implying anything of course!"
Listening to Kyu, he heard the young man say: "My goals have always been more generally speaking. Some call me an idealist. However, its my belief that it is the duty of the strong to protect the weak. I'm one person, and while I can't protect everyone, I'll do what I can for those I can, no matter the circumstance. With the new year approaching, I may have a better means to do so. We'll just have to see."
Victor smiled. "That's a beautiful belief Kyu. If you don't mind, I'd like to add on to that. The strong should protect the weak, but at the same time, the strong should also teach the weak to protect themselves. You know what they say right? 'Give a man a fish, you will feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.' right? People like us should teach the weak combat forms to defend themselves so that when they are strong in the future, they can teach future victims how to defend themselves!" he said.
"Think of it. Even if Kvist is gone, there are bound to be students like him to follow with just as much wicked intentions." Victor mused. "And then there are free agents like Zeniro and wild cards like the Watchmen and Genaht to take into account. One must prepare."
