He was dressed in his usual attire: a black muscle shirt, black wind pants, and white sneakers. He had come out here early in the morning for a rigorous training session and had been training for most of the day. His body was slick with sweat. Ah, it felt good to be alive!
Victor had just completed a series of sixty push-ups on his knuckles and had gotten to his feet. He paused momentarily to catch his breath, then began a series of punches. Jabs, hooks, uppercuts, he was careful to mix them and was extra careful not to swing wildly but to snap out the punches from his shoulder and chamber back his other fist for maximum striking power.
He kept this up for maybe ten minutes, then switched to leg techniques. He practiced with the C.Q.C. styled kicks which were generally quick snapping and stomping kicks with knee strikes to the head and sensitive areas, mixing them with the long range Savate styled kicks which were powerful, and more stiff legged and designed for general areas of the body.
As he continued his training, Victor began to mix in his expertise in evasion into his techniques. He would gently tilt his head to the side as if dodging a punch, or glide to one side or backward while simultaneously throwing a kick or punch, or even fall backward as if he had been struck, but then turn the fall into a graceful, but small back flip to regain his footing (although Victor rarely did this, as fancy techniques like this could put one at a disadvantage). These were only a few of the evasive maneuvers he used. He would have used the grappling techniques he used, but it was difficult to practice grappling without somebody or something else to practice on.
"It's been hours." he thought to himself as he gracefully turned around and delivered a spinning side kick to the air. "He said he would show up, but he hasn't. But then again, he isn't the kind of person who would break a promise. He strikes me as honorable."
Victor had gotten an idea of how to gain a little more strength. He had gone to a student in school and inquired about one of the more powerful students in school, a student by the name of Tyler Scott, who had earned the name "Kyukaku", or just "Kyu". Victor had heard that name at Varron quite a few times. He was quite a fighter at Varron and here. Apparently he had recently won the previous tournament. Victor wasn't judging him by that alone of course. He had heard plenty about Tyler and his hunch was that Tyler was a formidable fighter.
Everything else had fallen neatly in place.
He had asked the student to spread the word to Tyler that he would like to train with him in the woods and that he had no ill intentions. Tyler did not strike Victor as ruthless like some of the other students here. That made things a bit easier. Today was the day and now was the time. It was just a matter of whether he would show up or not.
"He will. I know he will." Victor thought as he changed from dodging to blocking, snapping the moves with speed, power, and accuracy. "At least I hope he will."

"You said who wants to meet me again?"
"Dunno. Some guy name Victor I think. I heard it through the grapevine in P.E."
"Doesn't ring a bell, but might as well go."
Audrey gave Kyu a solemn nod, agreeing with him before turning back to her computer at her desk. He walked up to her, gave her a kiss on the top of the head before heading off. He'd been called to several places throughout his highschool career. Half the time, it ended up being an ambush. This time, Kyukaku saw it as a distinct possibility, thanks to the trouble with Kai. Still, Audrey reinforced the fact that he shouldn't let any of it change who he was. He would do as he always had, take a risk in the off chance he may be helping someone else.
It was a good thing he didn't decide to avoid it. What Kyu didn't know, is that Victor was already told by someone else that Kyu gave his word about showing up. Instead, that person spoke on an assumption, causing Kyu to be unknowingly late. He was in regular clothes as well, a pain of faded jeans with a button down shirt, the sleeves rolled up to his elbow.
As he came to the woods, he spotted another student, one he could only assume was Victor. He was practicing the martial arts, something that might seem strange at school, unless those schools were Varron or Hircine High. His form was good, though it could be better, and so were the crispness of his techniques. He approached from behind the trees, coming out a few good yards away from Victor, in order to not startle him and cause an attack on reflex.
"You're Victor I assume? I heard you needed something from me."

"You're Victor I assume? I heard you needed something from me."
Victor slowly stopped in mid palm thrust and came back into a normal stance. So he had come after all. He had been expecting Tyler to show himself in the open rather than concealing himself, but then he probably just didn't want to startle him. There was such a thing as discretion.
"Yes I am." Victor replied. "It's nice to meet you, I must say. I believe your a Varron transfer as I am, correct?"
Victor walked toward the voice and at last came face to face with Tyler Scott, AKA Kyukaku. The young man was quite tall and well muscled, with brown hair and greenish brown eyes. Something about him told Victor he was every bit as strong as Victor's hunch had told him. Yes, he was formidable alright. His plans would bear fruit.
"I am sorry if I disturbed you. I know it must seem strange, a person you've never met just asking you to come out here to the woods completely out of the blue." Victor mused. "However, I assure you, this is not an ambush of some kind."
Victor went back to the forest clearing where he had been before. "The reason I brought you out here is because I need to train harder. I need somebody particularly skilled from the school to work with and at Varron I remember your name popping up more than a few times." he said. "There are others of course, but you seem more... honorable. Not to mention you're one of the few people I've heard of who could go toe to toe with Taiku Akimoto. Not many people can do that." Victor had not actually seen this, but news traveled fast.
"So what do you say? Will you help me train? I'm always hoping to improve my technique and style." Victor said.

(OOC: It would be really helpful if you posted a link of your bio in your signature. I did a quick search and couldn't find it.)
"You'd be right then."
Kyukaku replied briefly, with a friendly smile and a nod. Victor began to walk towards him now, as he continued to speak. What Kyu wasn't expecting was Victor to mention anything about an ambush. It was like he was reading his mind. That, or Victor was indeed planning an ambush and was just hopeless when it came to lying. Either way, Kyukaku brushed it off as a fluke and opened his mouth to reply.
"You'd be surprised how often this happens to me, actually."
Out of all his recent fights, he was surprised the one that was mentioned was his battle with Taiku, all the way back in Varron. While Kyu held his own, it wasn't quite toe to toe. However, thats a rematch he's been planning for a while now. Next time he goes up against his friend, things could end quite differently. Since that battle, Kyukaku has only risen in speed, power, skill, and strategy. The constant improvements were what kept him alive-quite literally- in his time since then.
"Well, you're certainly talking up my pride." Kyu started, a grin flashing across his face. "Teaching is one of the best ways to learn. Maybe you won't be the only one who learns something today. Yeah, of course I'll help you."
Kyu took a quick look around and behind him, checking for any sticks or rocks that might cause injury later on. Satisfied that it was safe enough, Kyukaku looked back to Victor, waving both his hands twice as he gave a short nod.
"Alright then, c'mon. Attack me."

Victor smiled jovially. Everything had worked. Now it was time to see what Kyu was made of. Victor knew there was little chance he would win, but he didn't intend to win. The only true lessons of combat were learned in defeat, and Kyu could teach him lessons as they fought. "Very well then." Victor said, that Cheshire cat like smile on his face. "I'll show you what I've got." The smile disappeared and Victor's eyes, once filled with warm diplomacy, became caves of ice. He faced Kyu and dropped his hands into a normal stance. Many fighters would have gone into a boxing or fighting stance, but Victor knew a neutral stance was generally best. It wasn't much of an advantage, but at the beginning of a fight, you did not want your opponent to know what you were doing. In this stance, any movement would be a surprise. Even if your opponent could react to it, they would have to react quicker because they would have to on sharper guard. Victor closed distance with Kyu and suddenly glided toward him like water going down a river. As he drew close enough to strike, he used his right arm to deliver a roundhouse elbow strike aimed at Kyu's face. However, it was actually a feint. Once he got his arm within striking range, Victor would strike Kyu in the stomach with a left punch and then the chest with a reverse right punch. The size difference between the two was almost zero, so therefore the strength and speed of seperate body types wouldn't matter. It would be simply a matter of mentality and technique. Kyukaku didn't know the extent of either for Victor, but he did know his own. Technique was always his most valued attribute.
When Victor came in for the elbow strike, Kyukaku made no moves. He knew the reach on an elbow strike, and Victor was too close. If he made any moves to defend against it too early, he would be opening himself up. Instead, Kyu relied on his reflexes as usual. When the left fist came, Kyukaku's right hand pushed to the inside, parrying it away. The punch to the chest would follow, as would Kyu's left hand acting in a fashion similiar to his others.
With the second parry, Kyukaku would slide up with his left foot, moving to the outside of Victor. His right hand, after parrying the first punch, would bounce up, extending his hand as it swung over the punching arms, in a knifehand strike. In a matter of moments from the time Victor attacked, Kyukaku's wrist would be heading straight towards the chin of Victor, likely causing him to fall to his back if landed.
"First thing, always commit to an attack, feint or not."

"First thing, always commit to an attack, feint or not."
No sooner had Victor thrown the second punch when Kyu suddenly slid to his outside and used his right arm to deliver a blow to his chin. Victor generally would have been able to anticipate this, but Kyu was faster than any opponent Victor had faced before and he couldn't react in time. The blow struck him squarely in the chin and he gasped as a sharp pain shot up his chin.
The force of the blow almost caused Victor to topple over, but his keen sense of balance saved him. He was in pain and Kyu was clever, but he could still try to use Kyu's extended arm against him. The only question was whether he could do it in time.
Victor's right arm was retracting from the punch, but it was still partially out. As it came back, he turned to face Kyu and snapped out his right arm again at Kyu's striking wrist, intending to twist it to disable his arm, then deliver a chasse kick to Kyu's stomach with his right leg which would be in front.
OOC: Chasse is the Savate version of a side thrust kick. It's pretty much the same as the side thrust kick in any martial art.

Victor's counter might have proved effective, had he not been forced to rush into it. He prevented falling to his back from keen balance, but that balance would still be unsteady as it tried to correct itself.
Kyukaku never let his moves drag out, but thanks to the momentum of his attack his arm would still be out, on its way back to guard. As Victor grabbed it, Kyukaku's reflexes kicked in from years of muscle memory, causing it to rotate in a small clockwise semi-circle. If Victor had gotten a strong grip of his arm, it would still be in his grasp, but Kyukaku had grabbed ahold of Victor's wrist as well. He tugged forward on Victor's arm. Kyu was pretty sure he was stronger than Victor, but regardless his pull would win. Victor's balance was already unsettled whereas Kyu had a solid base, and Victor was attempting a kick.
Victor would be likely be forced to turn his sidekick into a lunge, planting all his weight on his right foot as he stepped forward in an effort to not be pulled face first into the ground. If this happen, Kyukaku's left leg would sweep through in a low round kick, kicking out the back of his right leg and sending him to his back. If Victor attempted to pull him down, Kyu would spin his hand clockwise again, in an effort to rid himself of his grip as he'd palm Victor down with his free left hand, quickly snapping it back up.
"Don't rush your techniques. Not every move needs to be a counter. Take your time, parry, deflect. Wait til the moment presents itself."

"Don't rush your techniques. Not every move needs to be a counter. Take your time, parry, deflect. Wait til the moment presents itself."
Victor's attempted grab was turned against him as Kyu circled his wrist out of the grip and grabbed Victor's own wrist and pulled him forward. Victor was forced to bring his kicking leg down to earth and immediately his new trainer used a low roundhouse kick to sweep him off of his legs and he landed on his back with a grunt.
"He's fast." Victor thought. "I guess I made a good choice choosing him"
Victor got to his feet and assumed a basic fighting stance with his guard up, right arm and leg in front, left arm and leg slightly behind. No feints this time. He would try to be more direct as Kyu had instructed.
Victor slid his right leg forward so he could slide his body forward at Kyu. He would try a direct attack. He would use his leading right fist to perform a small, quick uppercut to bounce Kyu's blocking left arm upward, then use the same arm to deliver quick jab to his exposed ribs. It wouldn't cause much pain, but it would be enough to stumble him. With that, he would turn around and deliver a spinning side kick with his left leg to Kyu's stomach.

(OOC: I'll go with it because I don't care, but be careful in the future. I never said my guard was up afterwards, so telling me where my arm was could be considered modding. If I cared. ) Kyukaku got into guard, awaiting Victor's next attempt as the fighter got to his feet. Victor slid back in, throwing a sharp uppercut. Kyukaku slid back as it struck his arm, bouncing his arm up slightly. It was a good strategy, targetting the limbs to remove them one way or the other. Kyu had used it on more than one occasion himself. By sliding back, he gained himself a margin more of distance. With more room to react, Kyukaku was able to deflect the right punch with his own right palm just in time to prevent collision. Victor began to turn, chambering his leg for a side kick. As he turned, Kyukaku's right leg lifted up, delivering a front heel push kick directly into Victor's ass, shoving him forward before Victor would be able to kick, possibly sending him to the ground yet again. "Spinning kicks need more momentum beforehand, otherwise its telegraphing. Its not always about sneaking something in, sometimes its about having enough force where people will either get nailed, or forced to get the hell out of the way."

OOC: Sorry, I was just kind of assuming that you had your guard up. I wasn't trying to GM or anything. He had managed to break Kyu's guard, but the jab was deflected, and to make matters worse, the kick was turned against him. The moment he turned to kick, Kyu thrust his foot into Victor's ass, knocking Victor to the ground. This time however, Victor wasn't knocked completely to the ground. Instead, he used his forward momentum to thrust his arms out forward and plant them on the ground, breaking his fall. He then lowered himself slightly to the ground as if doing a half push-up, then thrust upward, rising to his feet again. "God DAMN, he's good." Victor thought. "If HE'S this good, I don't want to IMAGINE what the other elites are like.""Spinning kicks need more momentum beforehand, otherwise its telegraphing. Its not always about sneaking something in, sometimes its about having enough force where people will either get nailed, or forced to get the hell out of the way."Victor nodded his head, taking in his third lesson. Kyu clearly had seen more combat than he. Victor would have to change tactics again. He already had a plan in mind. Victor slid toward Kyu, intending to use his left hand, which would be in the lead, to deliver a quick palm strike to his chest to upset his balance. Once that happened Victor would use his left leg to slide and rotate to Kyu's right-not his own right-and use his left hand to grab onto Kyu's right wrist, while his right hand-even the fingers-would dig into the soft spot of Kyu's right forearm muscle. He would then perform a simple, but effective army styled throw to lift and dump Kyu over his shoulder and onto his back.

(OOC: I'm under the assumption that CQC shoulder throws are similiar in mechanics to judo)
Kyu was happy to see Victor rise with a nod, ready to charge in again. The last student Kyu mentored was Drake Moldune and while the kid became rather good, good enough to almost kill him once, he often became frustrated with his own performance. The willingness to accept a mistake and move one was admirable.
A palm strike came, the snapping motion forcing Kyu to bring his right arm to his chest to absorb rather than deflect the attack. In Kyu's mind, this is what gave Victor the opportunity to grab ahold of his forearm. Kyu's balance was being knocked into as well as Victor moved in, attempting to throw Kyu. As the two were brought closer together, Kyu was able to whisper in Victor's ear before preventing the toss.
"Don't leave my other limbs unchecked."
Kyukaku gave a medium powered left hook to the exposed back set of Victor's left ribs, holding back just enough to prevent them from breaking. At the same time, Kyu's left foot, already moving from readjustment, would sweep forward in front of Victor's left leg. As Victor would pull Kyu over, Kyukaku's hand would move to the back of his head, pushing forward and down. The result would be Victor pulling himself to the ground, Kyukaku falling on top of him as neither would be able to stop the already forward momentum.
With Victor belly down against the ground, Kyu would most likely recover first, sitting atop the back of Victor as his knees would pin the boy's arms down, preventing the leverage needed to push up until Kyu wanted him to. His left hand, already at the back of Victor's head, would grasp the hair and pull back, putting strain on the neck.
"Victor, this is sparring session, yes. But trust me when I say in order to become better, you must stray farther away from the rules. Back in Varron, I was held in a position almost exactly like this one. This left hand thats grabbing your hair, is the same one thats scarred from having a knife put through it. I hope you, or anyone else for that matter, never gets put in that, or this kind of position. However, if you intend to be ready in the case it does you need to attack aiming to disable, not to score. Do you understand what I am saying?"

OOC: Actually, C.Q.C. throws and grapples are nothing like judo. They are very dangerous and incorporate strikes and joint locks, while Judo is more designed more for just throwing and pinning. No offense, but I thought I'd just point this out. I was just using the most basic throw. Also, my character was digging into your character's nerve points to make it more painful, and thus more difficult to escape (you may want to check on wikipedia in hand to hand combat, there is a chart of nerve points and vital spots on the body).
IC: Success seemed to be in his grasp, almost literally. Victor managed to grasp Kyu's arm, when suddenly Kyu leaned in and whispered something in his ear:
"Don't leave my other limbs unchecked."
Another stupid mistake on his part.
Victor gritted his teeth in pain as Kyu's fist sank into his ribs. To add insult to injury, Kyu moved his left leg in front and as Victor attempted his throw, he found himself falling forward with Kyu on top of him. Victor landed on his stomach and the air whiffed out of him, causing him to gasp. His arms were under Kyu's legs, and then Kyu seized his hair and began to yank it upward. The pain in the rest of his body left Victor no alternative than to go with it and his head and neck craned upward painfully, his neck feeling incredible strain. It was excruciating.
"Victor, this is sparring session, yes. But trust me when I say in order to become better, you must stray farther away from the rules. Back in Varron, I was held in a position almost exactly like this one. This left hand thats grabbing your hair, is the same one thats scarred from having a knife put through it. However, if you intend to be ready in the case it does you need to attack aiming to disable, not to score. Do you understand what I am saying?"
Straining against the pain, Victor said: "You're saying that I need to stop attacking in the manner that I have been before. I have been attacking you, but it has been in the manner of a person who is simply trying to strike, not to defeat his opponent. I have broken your guard twice, but have I really tried to do any severe damage? No I have not. You want me to fight like I mean it. Not holding back, but not viciously either. If I am to defeat anyone-or even have a chance in combat-I must not just strike. I must truly fight with all my mind, body and spirit. It is clear you have done this for a long time and now it is time for me to learn how to do this."
Victor sighed. "If I am wrong in what I have said, then strike me on the head or something. If I am right however, then let me up and I shall show you that I can take that lesson to heart."

"Good boy." Kyukaku smirked, letting go of Victor's hair and patting him on the head before speaking up again.
"Though that's not to say striking is an empty strategy. Merely strike with your whole being."
Kyukaku explained, lifting off Victors back as he took a few backwards steps. He distanced himself, taking the time to roll the cuffs back up on his sleeves that came down sometime during their training. By the time he was finished, Victor should be standing back up. Kyukaku checked his sleeves once more, bringing his eyes back up to Vic before speaking again.
"Alright. Again."

OOC: Thanks for the correction! Victor was expecting a strike on his head or some sort of rebuke, but nothing came. Kyu let go of his head, patted it, and complemented him. He began to stand up. "Though that's not to say striking is an empty strategy. Merely strike with your whole being."Merely strike with your whole being... Okay then. Time to stop holding back. Victor would not stop at just trying to break Kyu's guard and fight like he meant it. But still... No. He wouldn't fight like a savage, but he would fight with all his being. Victor stood up as Kyu backed away from him. He dusted himself off quickly, then went into another basic fighting stance, the same one he had done before. "You make the first move this time." Victor said, meeting Kyu's eyes.

Well I planned to hammer his defenses a bit later, but why not?
Kyukaku took a few steps forward, closing the distance gap as he got into striking range. Once in range, Kyukaku would snap his left fist out in a quick jab to the head, snapping it back immediately whether it connected to the face or not. His right hand would follow up, delivering a more solid punch to Victor's solar plexus.
There were a number of attacks at Kyu's disposal, and depending on Victor's movements, Kyukaku would choose which path to take. One had to walk before running, and one had to probe before pummeling.

Kyu moved toward him and began to attack. Victor observed his movements closely, going over the lessons he had been taught in the past few minutes. There was still no way he could defeat such an opponent, but he could at least prove that he was a worthy opponent.
Kyu's left fist snapped out at his head with alarming speed. Victor's reflexes kicked in, but the lesson he remembered also did as well. Under general circumstances, he would have simply dodged out of the way entirely and tried to immediately counterattack, but he did not. Instead, he simply leaned his head to one side and the jab was immediately pulled back as quickly as it had been snapped out.
Kyu's reverse right hand came thrusting out and Victor felt that familiar urge to just dodge away and counter, but the more experienced warrior's words played in his head.
"Don't rush your techniques. Not every move needs to be a counter. Take your time, parry, deflect. Wait til the moment presents itself."
"Alright then." Victor thought as the blow came toward him. "Let's see if I've learned that lesson or not."
As Kyu's right fist came, Victor reached over with his right arm in what appeared to be an unorthodox move, but was in actuality a very simple technique. He would use his right arm and hand to press down on Kyu's hand, then circle under it and have his hand come up under his chin, leaving Kyu's arm squeezed between his arm joint. It was very similar to a Goju styled block.
At the same time he would reach behind Kyu with his left hand and apply pressure to the back of his neck while his other hand pushed forward on the underside of his chin to make him arch forward. While all this happened, his left leg would hook around Kyu's right leg and trip it out from under him, causing him to land on his back.

His punch was parried- which was good- and was circled around into another move- which was better. As the palm approached Kyu's chin, his body attempted to instinctively slide back. At this time, Kyukaku's left fist would be shooting up in an uppercut, striking the exposed underside of Victor's right jaw. The attack would cause Victor's move to hesitate, even if just a moment from the disruption.
As Kyukaku moved back, his foot tripped over Victor's, which had been moving into place behind his own foot. While Victor hadn't established his trip fully, it still messed with Kyukaku's balance. He'd stumble back, almost falling, but swinging his upperbody to adjust with his footing to prevent it. Kyukaku established full guard before he could be overrun by Victor, who had been struck under the jaw. He gave a good look at Victor, smiling.
"Now that's some progress. While you still left my one arm unchecked, it was still a good move with perfect timing. It would of caught most people entirely. Now that you've learned some...I'm kicking it up a notch. Do your best."
Almost immediately after, Kyukaku would burst forwards into Victor. He'd slam his right elbow in a roundhouse strike into the left side of Victor's head. He was now striking harder and faster than previous, truly making Victor work at simply surviving. Once again, it was just one move that could lead to a number of others. Whatever came next, Kyu would make sure to not let up this time until it was over.

OOC: "Had been" struck in the jaw? That sounds a bit like modding. I'm sure it isn't, but you may want to be careful about that in the future, no offense or anything.
IC: It was evident he had made progress, even if it hadn't worked completely. Kyu stumbled a bit and his arm was captured, but he used his upper body to regain his balance.
"Now that's some progress. While you still left my one arm unchecked, it was still a good move with perfect timing. It would of caught most people entirely. Now that you've learned some...I'm kicking it up a notch. Do your best."
Victor only heard some of these words because as they were spoken, Kyu's left fist came at him in an uppercut aimed at his chin. Instinctively, Victor leaned his head back. He was able to avoid a direct hit which would have surely finished him, but due to the close distance between him and his opponent, he could not entirely dodge the blow. Part of Kyu's knuckles swiped across his chin, drawing a few beads of blood and causing a mild stinging sensation. No matter. It was mild.
Kyu lived up to his last few words and shifted into a more offensive form of fighting. Kyu's right arm lashed out at Victor's head with alarming speed and he was amazed at how quickly he had to react to the move. And still Kyu's lessons rang in his head. Only now the stakes were higher.
In truth, the elbow strike was coming too fast to block, so Victor had to settle for sliding slightly backward to avoid it. He was going over his options in his head.
"The elbow strike can easily be turned into a side hammer fist strike to the temple when it misses. And he could also counter with his reverse hand." he thought. "Not to mention there is his lower body to consider. He specializes in all parts of his body in general. I have to attack like I mean it, but I also have to be careful about him. What to do?"
He didn't counterattack immediately like he used to. Instead he waited until Kyu's arm was completely outward, then slid in with his left arm up higher to intercept Kyu's right arm (which would logically have to come down if it intended to strike lower in which case it could still be intercepted) and his right arm out under his left arm in an unorthodox, but ready blocking position to prepare for Kyu's left arm. For the strike, he used his front right leg to launch a diagonal thrust kick toward Kyu's kneecap, knowing he could land and pull away in case Kyu tried to counter.

(OOC: You're "sure" I'm not modding but calling me out on it? Anyways, its assumed hits, not modding. Its a style a few of us use when writing to make it free flow better.)
Victor's timing was definately getting better. Kyukaku's elbow was prevented from striking the head, Victor putting up a defense as he thrusted out his own leg in a kick. Kyu pivoted on his left leg, turning at the hips as he threw a low right roundkick. Kyu's shin would smash into the underside of the calf of Victor's kicking leg, intercepting it on the way out. Victors kick would be thrown off trajectory, grazing Kyu's thigh. While it was unlikely there would be lasting damage from the strike, Victor's weight would be shifted to the right, along with a bad leg cramp.
As Kyu's right leg would find itself back on the ground from the snapping motion, his left arm would shoot out with the added momentum of turning back to the right. His fist would strike into Victor's solar plexus, Kyu pushing his shoulder into the punch to make up for the lacking power in a short range strike.
Victor was thinking about his moves, and that was a problem. In a fight, a real fight, there was never any time to think. Yes, it was always a good idea to have strategies, but in the end it always came to reflexes and reaction. Victor wasn't relying on his, therefore making him move slower than he should.
