’Hmm… nothing seems to have changed since I left this place behind… still the same dictator… still the same Gestapo… still the same frightened students, not daring to stand up against their so called ‘superiors’. I wonder how they will act against the Varron students? Will they become hostile because their pillars and captain tell them to? Will they get struck down by the Varronians because of their lack of power? Most students at Hircine have been broken by the pillars before they got strong enough to actually be a challenge… the student body itself is weak… Hircine practically only got three powerful warriors… where Varron has an entire student body as warriors…’
Shuya slowly moved through the endless corridors of Hircine High, the same faces as before, the same lockers with the same posters. It seemed as if time had been frozen for a long time now. Things had gone their way before he had arrived here and were still the same when he had returned. Some people stared at him, trying to remember who he was exactly… but it seemed they had forgotten about him or were trying not to make contact with him out of fear for the pillars and captain. Fact was that Shuya had gotten himself a bad reputation here in the past.
’But I should’ve known that it would be Kurtz who would make the actual smart move here… not Darren nor Tiao. Darren has always been the wizkid around but his lust for power and control often blinds him for everything that truly is important… and Tiao… I doubt the kid got any brains at all… a blind follower of Darren. No… Kurtz is the true gambler here… he knows that labeling the Varron students as outcasts, like Darren and Tiao did, is not the way to keep the peace around here… He knows that if the Varron student body gets united, the entire Hircine system will collapse… he needs to get Varron students to his side… and word has it that he actually approached Ein, offering him a pillar ship… Such a move was to be expected alright… Ein is the perfect man for the job… He would be considered as the strongest neutral faction in the Varron hierarchy whereas people as Loire and Kvist are both strong yet not really open to much suggestions… I wonder how this play will turn out…’
Turning a corner sharply with his mind set on how to find out more about what was going on and at the same time avoiding the pillars and captain as much as possible, Shuya bumped into a student who was obviously also in a rush. The student walked right into Shuya’s chest before she was thrown backwards slightly by his speed. Shuya however was only slowed down slightly and turned around aggressively.
“Watch where you’re bloody going!” He snapped at the student until he gave the girl a better look. Blinking his eyes in disbelief, his aggression was immediately taken away from him as he stopped his pace and slowly walked back towards the girl. “Kayoko?” he asked slowly. The female student slowly wiped dust off her skirt before she turned her face towards him, the same reaction in her eyes as in his. “Shuya?” Shuya walked back towards the girl and helped her up on her feet. She smiled gently towards him as he slowly turned back to the normal Shuya… or at least the one every other student knew.
“I knew you were coming back… I knew I hadn’t seen the last of you… you were always different than most students… I… I missed you Shuya…” Shuya looked slightly unease but replied to her with a almost friendly smile. “Care to join me for a small walk?” she asked.
When Shuya had arrived at Hircine High more than a year ago, his attitude towards the students had been everything but kind. His cold heart had made him the outcast of the class, to his own personal delight. He felt better when he was alone… yet, there had been one person who had given him an even better feeling… when he was with her. Kayoko Kotohiki. She hadn’t accepted his rude manners and kept pushing until he finally allowed her to come with him some time, to find out what he was doing. The two become close but every time if Shuya thought they were getting too close, he took distance again. As she wanted to spend more and more time with him, Shuya started to make up excuses for why he couldn’t. He couldn’t allow her to become part of his plans… his plans on taking down Darren Blayne… But nosy as she was, she eventually find out. She tried to talk him out of it but he refused to do so and the two didn’t speak to each other since that moment… until after his fight with Darren…
Kayoko, while still angry at Shuya pitied him at the same moment and nursed him back into a better shape. She did no longer care for his political ambitions within the student hierarchy. Yet, things turned out even worse and Shuya was shortly after forced to leave the school behind. Kayoko had begged him to take her with him, but he had harshly refused. He couldn’t take such a burden with him… not with the plans he had…
“So… I heard rumors about your return… thought they were fake actually… but it seems you truly have come along with the Varronians…”
’Rumors about my return? If I’ve learned one thing in the past here… it’s that most rumors are produced by the pillars, captain and the principle… if that’s the case… they must know I’m back… so much for trying to avoid the unavoidable…’
“Listen Kayoko… I don’t mean to be harsh or anything but I don’t really have too much time for this at the moment… I was actually on my way to some place so why don’t you just go to the class you were so desperately late for? If you still live in the same dorm I’ll pay you a visit soon, okay?”
“Some place huh? It seems you haven’t changed one bit Katsumoto… so what is it this time? Are you planning on taking down the pillars and captain at the same time? Or are you going for the principle once more? Oh yeah… I’ve heard about that too…”
“Shut up already Kayoko! All you ever hear is the rumors from those gossiping friends of yours! And guess where they got it from? If it matters anything to you, I did not went after the principle, alright! The principle went after me! Now please! Leave me alone already!”
“Fine!”
With a reddened face, Kayoko stormed off towards her classroom, whispering cursing words on her way there. Shuya slowly shook his head as he calmed down again.
’Stupid girl… what is she thinking anyway? I’m sure that she’s not THAT stupid! Ah well… it’s good to see those pillars kept their word in not harming her… at least that’s something…’
Shuya had arrived at the courtyard but bothered little about the people outside. One table however stood out in the crowd for it’s total absence of any students. Some tables were so packed with students that they had to sit on top of them, rather then in front of them… but no one took a seat at that single one.
’I see there’s no breaking traditions either… seems the so called ‘Pillar Table’ is still intact. Well, might as well start the fun sooner than expected as it seems they probably know I’m here anyway…’
Walking through the crowd, Shuya took a seat at the Pillar’s table and slowly began to devour his lunch, enjoying the staring eyes. It would probably mean that he would get company really soon… as most of the students here were just cowardly snitching Hircine students…
