Right, on the old forum we basically came to the conclusion that our version of the storyline was within the same existance as Legend and the rest of the original motley crew, but out of the obvious interests in simplicity, we were not within the same timeline as them.
The question is, those of you who would remember and more to the point, whose opinions are valid....
10 years after chapter 18? Just to keep us a fair few years away from everyone else?

... Kvist is so the cousin and/or nephew of Legend... Or what?

Then why are you getting beat up all the time?
More important question, if it is after Xin, why have there been no consequences from that storyline? True, the board was started long before the series ended, but those events would have changed the politics of the city.
My say, make it ten years PRIOR to the Xin series....or just separate it into a separate universe where Xin himself never existed....it works in comics all the time.
YAY LETS RETCON!

Hmm, as far as getting beat up all the time, you must be referring to August 2005 where I recorded the last loss I had in a fight...
But alright, we all have our fantasy worlds...
And I was slightly hinting 'Maybe we should have something restricting people from saying what I just said'... A hint? Some would say...

I think ten years prior would make more sense, if we are in fact in the same timeline as XIN. Then again, the Priciples references to Dimir in a few threads(1 that I know of...) would be hard to explain.
So all in all, I say that we slowly forget, and when some newbie asks we just give them a long speal that ends up being about something else. Then they too will forget.

Well, we could always say that some event happened after Dimir's failure that caused the school system to revert back. Maybe there was evidence that it wasn't working or some such.

We make up the year where Dimir was beginning to try to reform the school systems. I'mma say 2008.

If I'm correct (which honestly, I'm not sure) the flash said that the foundation of the Corporal Punishment System had come a decade before the events of Xin; therefore, claiming we're a prequel ten years ahead would have required our roleplaying to revolve around the very beginnings of the system, not the idealogy that the System has been around since all of us entered education.
The idea that we come before the foundation of Xin makes things alot harder then if we argued that our time comes afterward. Personally I feel arguing that we're a "sequel" to the series makes much more sense, considering then we can not only make reference to the past, but also give a stronger feeling that the System is almighty and powerful simply because it's lasted for ten years - and if we claim we're ten years after the series, then twenty.
I can also explain why the events of Xin did not reshape the structure of Varron Academy. As a fact, we all must remember that the only adult supporter of the Xin cast was Ms. Jix, who was seen leaving the school to join the City Council (none other than the Varron Council) and help establish the new ideals.
But we have a problem: the only real figureheads of the new system are violent teenagers themselves, not peaceful demonstrators. No matter the facts of corruption that came against Dimir, we must remember that he was not the only supporter and defender of the System; he was only one in perhaps hundreds of national figureheads who debated that the Corporal Punishment System was a necessity. Even if there was corruption pointed out, soon enough politicians and parents will begin to believe that the System, in the end, was justified, and soon return to it.
Now, before you argue that the Xin crew would resist, you must remember that those returning the System would be in the peaks of national power, and the only possible resistance would be a bunch of teenagers who haven't even reached college. Therefore, the System could quite easily return, and it would in fact take about ten years for - say, Legend and Gai - to rise up in possible political stature to even resist the System, while Xin, Zumi and the rest are still in College.
Therefore, I feel we're in the perfect space for continuing the legacy. The System came back, and the old heroes are just coming to begin their own resistance that could actually succeed, leaving those of us in the System itself to help combat it through demonstrations of its evil. Instead of being the first to attempt it, we'd be the ones to succeed. All it took was some foundation - from the flash itself.
Therefore, I feel making the board based ten years after would be best, especially considering that way we can follow up whatever ideas Steven and Max ever add to the Flash. This is the safest way to run, and that way we could work our translations of the flash to our advantage.
Besides, I'm considering some possibilities myself, and I'm liking them quite a bit...

You guys keep assuming that Xin is based on a "not so distant future" type of storyline. Well let me ask you this: how could the Corporal Punishment System be depicted in the Xin flash with modern technology, yet was ten years old?
Pretty much, I think we're looking at an alternate timeline here, some a "it could be tomorrow" scenario. In my eyes, it could be a stark possibility of the 1990's powerful campaigns against gang violence and drug use, and the sudden rebelliousness of the student body could have led to the rise of 'The System' from the Conservative Movement deeming it a strong possibility to repel the Democrats.
Here's a possible suggestion scenario: In the 1992 Presidential Campaign, the two final candidates were Governor William Clinton (D) and President George W. Bush "Senior" (R). The latter was an influential Moderate Democrat; the latter was the former Vice-President of the renowned President Ronald Reagan, the figurehead of "The Conservative Movement."
As we all know, Bush had too much bad media from his lack of domestic interests, and some of his actions in the first Gulf War; not to mention, but Clinton was highly popular, and some of the American people felt a change was necessary. So, as most remember, Bill Clinton was voted President without much of a sweat.
But let me ask you this: what would have happened if Bush won a second term? What if Bush and the Conservative Movement continued its power hold over America in the 1990s? Instead of the public aid programs the Democrats are famous for in response to the gang violence and reformations to the school systems, what if the Republicans held their power, and instead followed the advice of a particular man we all know as "Dimir"?
If the official change to the Corporal Punishment System were made in, say, 1993, then that'd result in the events of Xin (if ten years later) beginning in 2003, which gives Xin the modern feel it had; that then leads us to 2013 in our time (wow, not too far off from Liam's suggestion...) which would therefore explain why most students drive high class cars of our time, and seemed to own high class technology is our time; in reality, these products would be much cheaper and easier to have, therefore explaining that phenomenon.
While it's not much different then Liam's idea, it at least leaves the fact that we're not terribly far from the present, which allows some creative readouts.

In the series actualy changes were being made in the end, and the system was being reformed locally at that time
Also, Edward was a member of Varron ten year ago....and school captain.....that throws off the time line.
I only mentioned prior because after doesn't work. We can make it five years prior, it doesn't matter, but after Xin it can be assumed things worked out.
Or we could do a seperate continuity and skip the probelm all together.

Um. When XIN (I mean the forum) started, Ghai, Legend, Andre, and Xin were still around. It was just supposed to be something like... they never involved themselves, and then such became that somehow the Admin decided to make it like two years after or whatever.. so it would be the same school, and that of Xin and the others were only memories, if anything. But.. sorry to cut my message short. Have to go to work, I'll edit later.

Well, considering Edward isn't on our board right now, why not just claim he's uncanon as well? *cough*
Sorry, that'll stick with you for a good while...
And not to mention Manuel, but it's kind of hard to take things from the very beginning of the old board and deem them canon, considering I looked at the threads of the very-old, and to me, they seem absolutely chaotic....

2 words I'm sure Kurtz will appreciate. Retrocontinuity and floating timeline.
Xin exsists in a floating timeline, allowing us to update and mould it's place with ease, saying that any miscrepancies are because it was in a different place at the time.
We can also use Retrocontinuity to do such things as ommit Edwards 10 years as though it never happened.
With these powers, we can easily slide into John's proposed 2013
Oh and Shamino. In the early 1900's, they beleived we would all have a flying car and live on the moon some 6 years ago. What you THINK the future will hold is most of the time totall bullsnit.
