RULE #1: This is a "Game". This is "Fun". If you're not here to have fun, and spread that joy with others, then this probably isn't the best place for you. Talk to other players, enjoy the company of friends. Relax. Don't get pissy when somebody cleverly manages to catch your character out, find some way to spin it. Don't brag too much when you manage to screw somebody else over. Abusive treatment or disrespect of other players is not tolerated. Spread some love, because if you're just here to be a pain in everyones ass, you'll find that you're not welcome.
RULE #2: You -have- to post. This applies mostly to tournaments, however it does spill over into the main board as well. If you're scheduled in a tournament match, you cannot simply 'vanish' without informing someone. It screws up the order of things, gives the staff more work and gives the admin a headache. We're reasonable people here, if you have no alternative but to drop out, we'll usually understand if there's a reason to it, we just ask for a little bit of notice so we can counter-balance your departure. In the main board, well, whilst there's no set rule on how quickly you're expected to post, it's just common courtesy to keep your threads active and your fellow RPers in a reasonably steady flow. Weeks between posts make things difficult to stay in the mood for it. Of course, again, we have many members with jobs and school commitments, so it's understandable if you don't always find time, but don't stretch the luxury.
RULE #3: God-Moding is a massive no-no. Basically, don't go controlling your opponent/fellow RPers in a thread without permission from them (there are occasions for it, but those are at the players discretion). Punishment for this is dealt with by the staff, and we do our best to keep it off our site. However, due to the inability to solidly prove all cases, we need to view every case individually. It's often easy for players to be accused of modding when an action IC has been misinterpreted, so to prevent unfair punishment, we take a careful stance here.
Rule #3b: As with God-Moding, the same rules apply to meta-gaming. For those unaware of the term, meta-gaming is where your character has knowledge about someone or something else that they logically could not get. As a writer, you must remember that just because YOU know what happened in someones history, or another thread, doesn't mean your character does. It's not so much a deliberate thing for most people, but we do need to stress that players remember that there is a line on it.
RULE #4: Management reserves the right to invoke disciplinary actions against any player or any character for any reason they see fit. Generally, the only reason we'll do this is if you're here to cause trouble or something (which is in violation of rule #1 anyhow.). I'm honestly sure why we need a rule for this, it's more like the subtext that goes below the rules. If you break our rules, you'll be dealt with swiftly and fairly. The rules aren't really that strict, but if you decide you wish to go out of your way to break them and piss us off, prepare to deal with the consequences.
Rule #5: Pollution such as an extremity of cursing or flaming of some one will not be allowed in or out of character. Sexual conduct is permitted, after all we're high school students, not Amish, but avoid sounding like a readers letter in Hustler. Try to keep things to a certain level of taste. Also, if the threads become particularly graphic in any case, please mark them with a 'Mature' note. While we are aware that this will unlikely prevent or discourage people from reading them, we consider that most of you are aware of what you are willing to read and what you are not. Any complaints about these threads will fall on deaf ears to admin, as all such threads should and will be marked. In the event a thread is not marked and is discovered to contain explicit sexual content, admin will intervene and all characters present within that thread will be warned or receive a temporary ban, in recognition of the severity of it. Pollution such as spamming will not be tolerated and will be locked or deleted without any questions asked.
:ADDENDUM:
Rule #5b: Drugs references and excessive violent conduct, for the sake of preventing offence to younger players, must also be marked with a 'Mature' tag. Again, keep it within a certain level of reason here.
Rule #6: In regard to the number of characters you are permitted, we allow all players to have a conventional maximum of two at any one time, without limitation on post count or the like. HOWEVER, it's advised that you inform the admin in advance before you make the character, as there is a fairly regular count done on members against email addresses and IP's. Also, these characters are allowed on the stipulation that you can maintain RP with both of them at a decent, frequent level. Third characters and above are rarely permitted and often are given to members with high experience on the board only. If you wish to make a third, you MUST ask an admin if it's possible. However, don't get your hopes up.
Rule #7: You are not permitted to post on the board as an active character until your bio has been approved by one of the moderators, however you are quite welcome to join in conversations in the OOC section until then. Normally one of the moderators is almost constantly online, but if not it's usually around 24 hours until approval most of the time. Please bear with us and you will be seen to as quickly as possible. If after 24 hours you've not been approved, the admin can be contacted via email or IM to request an approval. Please note, however, if you're just impatient, this will be ignored.
